The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 253: Ten Thousand Kites

The world was enveloped in a solemn silence.

This was the peace before the storm.

The Jade Emperor raised his sword to withstand the oppressive force; he had already breached the multilayered textual barriers, with no more obstructions ahead.

"Imperial Brother..."

The Jade Emperor looked towards Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong emitted an aura of divine majesty, entirely different from before.

"Have you become the Heavenly Dao?"

The Jade Emperor narrowed his eyes.

Sun Wukong shook his head: "Not the Heavenly Dao."

The Jade Emperor was about to breathe a sigh of relief.

"But..."

Sun Wukong raised his hand, and light shone from his fingertips.

"The Immortal Dao is within me!"

From his fingertips emerged a radiant light that swept across the arching celestial positions with rapid ease, like a brushstroke across the sky, revealing an enormous map of Wanling.

What is the Heavenly Dao?

It is the universal law of heaven and earth, acknowledged by the entire Three Realms.

To achieve the Heavenly Dao by oneself is an unfathomably difficult task.

However— the Wanling Immortal Path has been realized.

"Spiritual Network, come forth!"

At Sun Wukong's command, spiritual energy flowed unceasingly from the ground towards the sky.

The Wanling map at the end point radiated brilliance, exuding a chilling aura.

"We must not allow him to continue!"

The Jade Emperor knew that Sun Wukong was undertaking a dangerous act and accelerated abruptly, thrusting his sword towards him!

This time, staking his own Immortal Body, he intended to put a stop to it all with his own hands.

Sun Wukong retracted his hand, his eyes meeting the onrushing Jade Emperor.

The Jade Emperor actually wanted to engage him in close combat?

A thought flashed through Sun Wukong's mind; the Jingu Bang, appearing out of nowhere, hummed joyously in his grasp.

The clash of their weapons unleashed a staggering storm.

Heavenly Immortals and Buddha alike stumbled backward, bracing against the storm to witness the event, believing an outcome was imminent.

But this collision was merely the beginning.

The Jade Emperor's eyes shone coldly, as a variety of spells exploded with blinding light at extremely close range, attacking Sun Wukong with a violent force!

The ruler of the Heavenly Palace commanded the Three Thousand Immortal Paths, versed in all the Immortals' spells.

And each spell, imbued with the essence of the Heavenly Venerate, had its power brought to the utmost extreme.

At such close quarters, Sun Wukong had no time to evade every spell.

"Disperse!"

Sun Wukong uttered softly, and golden light burst forth around him, spinning up a gale out of thin air, turning all the spells into a cloud of luminescent dust.

The sky cleared, the spells seemingly never having existed.

"How can this be!"

The Jade Emperor's heart shifted, though his hands rapidly conjured a fierce flurry of sword techniques.

He knew of Sun Wukong's expertise in close combat. Even the slightest pause could reveal a weakness.

The Jade Emperor's form flickered as he and Sun Wukong battled together, thunderous booms echoing in the heavens as thousands of spells reassembled once again.

Yet around Sun Wukong, the golden light morphed into rings, shredding the spells in the blink of an eye.

Their exchange was too swift, the resulting air waves too fearsome; the Immortals had no idea how to lend aid.

It was Buddha, in his calm observation of the situation, who took out a string of personal Buddha Beads, uttering True Words of imprisonment.

With the incantation of True Words, a Buddha Bead shattered.

"Go quickly!"

At the Buddha's command, the True Words, empowered by the Buddha Beads, invisibly charged towards Sun Wukong.

The next instant, upon contact with the Protective Golden Light, they explosively revealed their essence.

Sun Wukong, in the midst of battling the Jade Emperor, swung the Jingu Bang, shattering the True Words.

Yet as the True Words shattered, they transformed into strands of sutras.

The sutras, aided by the Jade Emperor's offensive, latched onto Sun Wukong at lightning speed, forming chains that bound him.

Sun Wukong was startled; the sutras could not be destroyed by the Jingu Bang, nor could his golden light unravel them—they grew tighter and tighter around him.

With Buddha's assistance, Jade Emperor found an opportunity.

However, just as he was about to strike Sun Wukong.

"Decomposition complete."

Sun Wukong suddenly spoke.

"What?"

Jade Emperor was startled in his heart.

The next moment, a dazzling radiance burst forth before the eyes of the Jade Emperor, as brilliant as the stars.

The Jade Emperor's sword struck the Wanling Map.

That Wanling Map, unbeknownst to when, had absorbed enough Spiritual Energy, and stood in front of Sun Wukong.

Golden flames surged in Sun Wukong's eyes, and that overwhelming pressure that deeply weighed on the Jade Emperor and Buddha reemerged.

"Let's begin."

Sun Wukong took a step forward, absorbing the Wanling Map into his body.

Next, a vast and boundless power radiated from him, incessantly transmitting new Laws to the Spiritual Network on the ground.

A magnificent scene unfolded beneath the feet of every Immortal, as if the earth shimmered with the glow of myriad stars.

Outside Wanling City, millions of beings knelt down in worship.

Within their protective dome, golden ethereal figures appeared, fiery as blazing flames; though merely shadows, they possessed endless majesty.

"The Spiritual Network shall be under my control."

Accompanied by the familiar voice, a warm brilliance flowed into everyone's body.

This was the Wanling Immortal Path.

Some people realized simultaneously that the Spiritual Network of this land had undergone an unknown upgrade and transformation in the blink of an eye.

The new Spiritual Network brought Spiritual Energy filled with mysterious powers, gradually cleansing all diseases and impurities from the bodies of mortals.

Above, Sun Wukong shone with a glow several times brighter than before, shattering the shackles around his body.

"Imperial Brother, could it be that you..."

Jade Emperor watched him in terror.

Sun Wukong did not reply, he raised the Jingu Bang, and with a light wave.

Instantly, a terrifying shockwave spread out from him, bearing his will, as if to purify everything in the world.

Jade Emperor was hit first; in a rush, he raised an invisible barrier, attempting to block the onslaught.

However, he failed to hold it back.

The Jade Emperor was sent flying.

Buddha had not anticipated such a turn of events.

Without time to think, he threw out his entire strand of Buddha Beads.

The Buddha Beads stood in the air, attempting to imprison all space.

Just then, the impact arrived, precisely stopped by the Buddha Light emanating from the beads.

People on the ground got up and looked up, only to see a dazzling brilliance in the sky, as if the sun had suddenly exploded.

After this impressively mighty strike, Buddha's strand of Buddha Beads shattered into dust, carried off by the wind.

Jade Emperor and Buddha heaved a sigh of relief, ready to continue their assault.

"There's no need to fight anymore."

Sun Wukong, however, spoke: "I have already won."

At that moment, both Jade Emperor and Buddha couldn't believe their eyes.

Unbeknownst to when, the people of Heavenly Palace and Lingshan were bound by golden chains in the sky, connected into one, unable to move.

"You..."

Jade Emperor looked at the chains in Sun Wukong's hands in disbelief.

"This is of Immortal substance."

Sun Wukong gave the chains a tug.

"Amitabha."

Buddha sighed.

Sun Wukong's Wanling Immortal Path had indeed succeeded.

At this moment, in this expanse of airspace, the words Sun Wukong spoke were Law.

"Great King is truly formidable!"

The seven Spider Demons gazed up at the sky with envy.

They watched the heavens full of Immortals bound by a single chain from Sun Wukong.

"He could fly ten thousand kites!"
