The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 155: I Have Finished Eating

That day, Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad handed over the ten forged Immortal Swords to Sun Wukong.

"I can only forge to this extent."

From his words, it was evident that he wasn't entirely satisfied with the results.

Sun Wukong reached out to grasp an Immortal Sword, and the remaining nine trembled almost simultaneously.

"It's sufficient."

Sun Wukong, sensing the power of the Immortal Swords, nodded in approval.

The ten Immortal Swords, forged by Lord Lao Zi into a unified force together with Ao Luan's own power, would not be weak.

Sun Wukong put away the Immortal Swords and thanked Lord Lao Zi.

Lord Lao Zi said there was no need for thanks, and then looked towards the great hall: "Have the two elders, Luck and Prosperity, decided what to do?"

"Yes."

Sun Wukong nodded; he had arranged jobs for the Lucky and Prosperous Stars in Wanling Hall.

Besides the two elders, he had also called in more than a dozen officials responsible for trade from Huaguo Mountain.

Sun Wukong introduced these officials to Lord Lao Zi, half of whom were human, all top talents gleaned from the Four Great Continents by Huaguo Mountain.

In the Four Great Continents, no country valued trade as much as Huaguo Mountain did; over the past decades, these people had brought endless wealth to Huaguo Mountain.

After introducing the officials, Lord Lao Zi became even more interested: "What are you discussing?"

"Currency."

Sun Wukong replied.

"Great Saint," Luck Star suddenly reminded, "the trial production at the Coin Factory is almost due."

"We'll leave immediately."

Sun Wukong nodded and apologized to Lord Lao Zi.

Lord Lao Zi shook his head and said he wanted to come along to see.

The group walked out of Wanling Hall when suddenly Wang Lingguan dropped from the sky and transmitted a few words to Sun Wukong.

"I know."

Sun Wukong nodded.

"What happened?"

Lord Lao Zi asked.

Wang Lingguan was a trusted aide of the Great Emperor Zhenwu, who was currently in charge of the security of Wanling City — any report from Wang Lingguan to Sun Wukong would surely concern security.

"Nothing serious," Sun Wukong replied. "They've caught someone peeking at the Heavenly Book."

"Great Saint," Wang Lingguan was immediately alarmed, not expecting Sun Wukong to reveal this.

"It's fine."

Sun Wukong gestured to stop him, smiling, "I've known about it for a while, he's not much like me anyway."

As soon as he said this, a shadow flew out violently from the library of Wanling City and sped away outside.

"Stop!"

A shout thundered from afar, but the Great Emperor Zhenwu tried to intercept it.

However, he was not as fast as the fleeing shadow and failed to stop it.

"No need to chase," Sun Wukong called out, and the Great Emperor Zhenwu ceased his pursuit.

Lord Lao Zi and the others watched this scene, completely baffled.

Sun Wukong seemed utterly unconcerned about this, leading everyone to where the Great Emperor Zhenwu was located.

This place was the Coin Factory, personally supervised by the Great Emperor Zhenwu during its construction, with the Bull Demon King as one of the builders, guarding the entrance.

"This Coin Factory is rather peculiar."

Lord Lao Zi landed and immediately remarked, "There's no scent of ore."

He was very sensitive to the scent of ores, so he immediately noticed the difference.

"We don't use ores for minting coins here."

Sun Wukong explained: "What we cast here is Paper Money."

"Paper Money?"

Lord Lao Zi was surprised, wondering what that was.

He looked around; the others had already heard of it and showed no surprised expressions.

Everyone entered the Coin Factory, whose interior design was very similar to the Rune Workshop of Huaguo Mountain.

This Coin Factory will use Rune technology to produce Paper Money, an idea Sun Wukong had long ago, and only now has it been fully implemented.

"Paper Money has low production costs, is easier to store, carry, and transport, and it avoids wear and tear in trade circulation."

Sun Wukong was inspecting the trial production of the Coin Factory as he said, "I am transferring the right to mint to you, and in the future, Wanling Country should gradually promote the use of Paper Money to make trade more convenient and active."

The officials nodded excitedly.

"Great Saint, how should we control the quantity of Paper Money?"

The Fortune Double Stars asked.

Their recently acquired knowledge was still less than that of the officials.

"They should have figured it out in Huaguo Mountain."

Sun Wukong pointed to the officials and said, "Measure by the number of transactions and goods, do not release too much, you can explore this gradually."

The Fortune Double Stars nodded.

"Great Saint." Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad spoke up, "Paper Money has no intrinsic value, how do you intend to replace real money?"

"I will set a timetable and enforce it strictly, no need to worry."

Sun Wukong said, "The wealth and experience accumulated by Huaguo Mountain can now be implemented here."

All the others nodded in agreement.

Lord slightly furrowed his brow: "Scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants, Great Saint places such emphasis on trade? I fear this consideration might be inappropriate for the future."

"Trade promotes development, and the benefits definitely outweigh the disadvantages."

Sun Wukong laughed and said, "No need to worry."

In the world of the Heavenly Book, he had already realized the terrifying aspects of trade and capital.

But in viewing history, the terrifying nature essentially boils down to control and distribution.

This was not an unsolvable problem for him.

"Because I am here."

Sun Wukong thought to himself.

He was eternal and unchanging, akin to the Ocean Stabilizing God Needle.

Lord Lao Zi recognized Sun Wukong's determination and did not ask further.

A few weeks later, Bull Demon King opened a ramen shop in Wanling City.

"Why are you revisiting your old trade?"

Sun Wukong asked while eating ramen.

"I want to take a break."

said Bull Demon King, finding running a ramen shop much simpler than working under True Warrior Great Emperor.

More importantly, he understood what Sun Wukong said in the Coin Factory.

Sun Wukong wanted to develop trade, meaning money would undoubtedly have a greater significance in Wanling Country than other nations.

He wanted to make money.

"This is utterly nonsensical…"

Of course, some Demons could not understand Bull Demon King's choice.

"A Demon King of the Demon World, actually running a ramen stand here."

Bear Demon King commented while eating ramen and asked True Warrior Great Emperor, "Great Emperor, why don't you let him mine instead? I think mining suits him better."

True Warrior Great Emperor finished his soup in one gulp: "I cannot waste his talents."

"And..."

He looked at Bull Demon King, feeling somewhat emotional: "He had no other choice."

Bull Demon King started the ramen shop mainly to support the other Demons of Jilei Mountain, as their compensation from mining was not substantial.

Months of mining would only earn them a few pieces of clothing.

"Am I being too stingy?"

True Warrior Great Emperor thought to himself but then dismissed the idea.

This was a necessary punishment; how else would the Demons reform?

From this perspective, he still very much appreciated Bull Demon King.

Bull Demon King had reformed quickly and had more responsibility than his brothers, like the Peng Demon King eating beside him.

"Big brother, I'm done."

Peng Demon King shouted loudly, "Can you give me another bowl!"

"Get lost!"

Bull Demon King smacked him with the noodle roller.
