My Girlfriend is the Nether King

Chapter 519: 003 The Weirdness Under the Rainbow

Screams immediately rang out from inside the Exorcism Special Vehicle when they spotted someone jumping into the river.

Xie Xiaofeng slammed on the accelerator, driving the car to the bridgehead, braking, and the four of them swiftly opened the doors and ran to the edge of the bridge.

Below the bridge, on the turbulent river surface, a man was struggling against the current, inching closer to the middle of the river.

Over the middle of the river, beneath the rainbow hanging in the post-rain dusk, and the other end of the rainbow was nestled within the hazy mountains far off in the distance, stretching for miles.

"This man doesn't seem like he's trying to commit suicide by jumping into the river!" Tang Jing said with a puzzled face, "Could it be that he jumped in just to swim?"

"Do you wear sneakers when you swim?" Xie Xiaofeng asked with a disdainful look.

Tang Jing stuck out her tongue and said nothing more, her face expressing disgust.

Half a minute later, under the watchful eye of Chen Hao and the others, the man finally reached the foot of the rainbow in the middle of the river. He then stopped, flipped onto his back for a backstroke position, eyes tightly closed, lips moving.

From the shape of his mouth, it seemed like he was saying, "Take me away."

"I've got it!" Xie Xiaofeng exclaimed excitedly, "He's bathing in the rainbow. Based on my deduction, he must be a writer or a poet; otherwise, he wouldn't do something so sentimental."

Hearing Xie Xiaofeng's words, Chen Hao and Tang Jing felt embarrassed, while Ye Yuqiao stood expressionless beside Chen Hao, her thoughts lingering on the portents of the new king of the Netherworld.

"No good, he's sinking into the water!" Tang Jing suddenly exclaimed loudly, and at that moment, the man beneath the rainbow in the river was struggling and sinking.

Instantly, Chen Hao used his Qinggong skills to fly towards the river surface, then dove into the water to rescue the man, bringing him back to the bridgehead.

Since he was saved by Chen Hao in time, the man was not in serious trouble. After coughing a few times, he excitedly grabbed Chen Hao's hand and asked, "Who are you, and how can you fly about? Are you from Rainbow Paradise?"

"Rainbow Paradise?" Chen Hao was puzzled, and at the same time, a glint of light flashed in his eyes, his look filled with curiosity.

"See, I told you he's a writer or poet!" Xie Xiaofeng said triumphantly, "Otherwise, he wouldn't be so foolish."

"Xie Xiaofeng!" Tang Jing gave him an annoyed look, then reproached, "Don't talk like that, it's so rude."

The man pushed his wet hair back and stood up, looking at Chen Hao with disappointment and sighed, "It seems you're not someone sent from Rainbow Paradise after all; you're not here to take me away."

Hearing the man say this, Xie Xiaofeng couldn't help but chuckle to himself, thinking that even though I said he was foolish, you all might as well believe it.

"We're not from any 'Rainbow Paradise.' We're from this planet, and we're also Onmyoji," Chen Hao explained.

"Onmyoji? You catch ghosts and subdue demons?" The man asked skeptically, looking at Chen Hao and the others, disbelief written all over his pale and rough face.

Chen Hao nodded.

The man furrowed his brow, lost in thought. After a while, his brow relaxed, and he asked, "I wonder if you Onmyoji could help me with my problem?"

"What problem?" Chen Hao inquired, then gestured towards the rainbow on the river, "Does it have something to do with you just jumping into the river and that Rainbow Paradise you were talking about?"

The man nodded.

Afterwards, receiving a dry towel from Tang Jing, the man began to vigorously wipe his hair as he told his story to Chen Hao and his companions:

His name was Zhang Heng, a resident of Rainbow Town, and he had a girlfriend named Liu Yuxin. Half a year ago, he and his girlfriend went on a date in the park. Not long after, dark clouds suddenly covered the sky, followed by a torrential downpour.

After the downpour passed and the weather cleared, a seven-colored rainbow appeared, one end of which rested on the edge of the park's lake.

As Liu Yuxin was hungry and wanted to eat something, Zhang Heng went to a shop outside the park to buy some snacks. But by the time he returned, his girlfriend Liu Yuxin was nowhere to be found.

In a panic, Zhang Heng immediately called Liu Yuxin, but he couldn't get through to her mobile phone.

Following that, Zhang Heng searched the park several times but couldn't find Liu Yuxin. When he returned to the spot where they had parted, he found two clear tracks of high heels on the grass in front of him.

Recalling that Liu Yuxin had worn high heels for their date, and considering the recent downpour, Zhang Heng concluded that these tracks were left by Liu Yuxin.

Following the tracks of the high heels, he made his way to the lake's edge. Assuming his girlfriend might have fallen into the lake, which had risen due to the rain, Zhang Heng didn't think twice before jumping into the lake.

After searching for half an hour, Zhang Heng didn't find Liu Yuxin in the lake. Once he got out of the water, he immediately called the police.

Soon after, the police and fire trucks arrived. After asking Zhang Heng about the situation, the firefighters started using more than a dozen large pumps to drain water from the lake.

Half an hour later, the overall water level in the lake had fallen by half, and the police and firefighters conducted a carpet search inside the lake. However, in the end, they still didn't find Liu Yuxin.

"Since that day, my girlfriend Yuxin has completely disappeared!" Zhang Heng said, his trembling, low voice sounding as though he was crying.

Hearing what Zhang Heng said, Chen Hao and his companions fell silent, feeling sympathy for Zhang Heng's plight in their hearts.

Not until Zhang Heng had somewhat calmed down did Chen Hao carefully ask, "So what you're saying is, your girlfriend was drawn away by that rainbow after the rain, and she went to a place called Rainbow Paradise?"

Zhang Heng nodded slightly.

"Er," Chen Hao was puzzled, "why do you think she was drawn away by the rainbow? Maybe she was just taken away by some demon or human trafficker?"

Zhang Heng sneered, feeling slightly displeased in his heart. After a pause, he explained, "At first, I thought exactly what you're thinking, that she might have been kidnapped. Until later, when an old man came to me and told me."

As he spoke, Zhang Heng suddenly stopped, then looked up at Chen Hao. After hesitating for a while, he added, "How about I just take you to see that old man instead? If you have any doubts, you can ask him directly."

After some thought, Chen Hao shook his head and said, "Let's not meet any old man for now. Take us to the park where your girlfriend disappeared half a year ago first. I think we might be able to help you uncover the real reason behind your girlfriend's disappearance."

"Really?" Zhang Heng's face lit up with surprise, a glimmer of hope seemingly visible in his eyes.

Chen Hao smiled faintly.

Thereafter, following Zhang Heng's directions, Chen Hao and his group arrived in front of a park in the town.
