"Keep attacking!" Joel shouted. He forced his legs forward again, swinging his blade low toward the monster's knees.
At the same moment, Haro fired an arrow. The shaft whistled through the air, aimed at the Orc's eye.
The Orc King tilted its head causing the arrow to graze its cheek. With a roar, it lifted one leg and stomped.
THUMP!
The ground cracked and Joel lost his footing and stumbled.
The monster then swung its greatsword sideways. Joel barely crossed his blade in time. The force flung him across the room. His back slammed against a pillar. He fell to his knees, coughing blood.
Irida raised her staff with shaking hands. "Fireball!" she cried. A sphere of flame shot forward and struck the Orc King's chest.
The explosion filled the air with smoke. For a moment, everyone paused.
But then the monster stepped out of the fire. Its body was covered with smoke. The skin was scorched, but its grin was wider.
"Pathetic." Its voice rumbled like thunder.
Irida's face turned pale. She tried to summon another spell, but her hands trembled.
The Orc King raised its sword and hurled it like a spear. The massive weapon ripped through the air, spinning like a wheel of death.
Irida uses haste and jumps back.
The blade struck the ground in front of her, the shockwave throwing her back. She crashed onto her side, blood trickling from her head.
"Stay away from her!" Ethan shouted. He charged again, his greatsword glowing faintly with mana. He used Lightning Steps and his body blurred.
In a blink, he appeared beside the Orc King and swung with all his might.
CLANG!
Their blades met. Sparks exploded. The sound rang like thunder. Ethan's arms trembled under the weight.
Sweat dripped from his forehead. His teeth clenched as the Orc pushed him down. His knees buckled against the pressure.
"Not enough," the Orc King growled. It pushed harder. Ethan was thrown back. He slid across the floor, blood seeping from his mouth.
The Orc King stepped forward, its heavy feet shaking the ground. Each step echoed in the chamber, filling the air with dread. Its red eyes glowed in the smoke, fixed on the group like a beast playing with trapped prey.
"What the fuck is wrong with this guy?"Randall roared, grabbing his head.
This didn't make sense.
This didn't make sense at all.
It wasn't the rank and strength of the monster that worried, rather its speed and toughness.
Most monsters with large bodies lack speed but this guy was frighteningly agile. And to make matters worse,it's skin was as tough as an armour.
Joel tightened his grip on his sword and charged. His blade came down in a fierce arc, sparks flying as it clashed against the Orc King's weapon. The monster barely moved, its arm steady like iron. With a cruel grin, it twisted its blade and knocked Joel's strike aside.
"Too weak," the Orc King muttered.
Before Joel could recover, the monster's knee slammed into his stomach. Joel gasped, spitting blood, and was sent stumbling backward.
Ryu roared, her beast blood burning. She leapt forward with twin blades, slashing fast, one after another. Her strikes came from all directions, sparks flashing in the dim hall. But the Orc King parried each blow with ease. Its greatsword moved lazily, almost like it was mocking her.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The monster twisted, caught one of her blades on its sword, then swung its massive leg. The kick slammed into Ryu's chest. She flew across the chamber and hit the wall with a sickening thud. Dust rained down as she fell, coughing blood.
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he chugged down another potion.
"Damn…He is just toying with us for amusement."
He gritted his teeth and rushed in, his sword glowing faintly with mana.
He struck with all his power, his blade aiming for the Orc King's neck.
But the Orc moved faster than expected. With a tilt of its head, the strike missed by an inch. The monster's arm lashed out and slammed against Ethan's chest.
CRACK!
The sound of breaking ribs filled the air. Ethan staggered, blood spraying from his lips. His sword nearly slipped from his hands, but he held on, glaring with cold eyes.
The Orc King's grin widened. It lifted its blade and swung down. Ethan raised his own sword to block, sparks flying as steel met steel. The pressure was unbearable. Ethan's knees bent under the weight. His arms shook. His breath came out ragged.
"You… cannot win," the Orc King growled.
It shoved him aside like trash. Ethan was thrown across the ground, rolling in dust and blood.
Randall tried to take the chance. He roared and swung his axe, his muscles straining with all his strength. The heavy weapon came down on the Orc King's shoulder.
THUNK!
The blade bit in, but only shallowly. Blood seeped, but the monster laughed, a low, cruel sound.
"Is that all?"
Before Randall could pull back, the Orc's massive fist crashed into his face. Blood and teeth flew from his mouth as he collapsed to the ground, dazed.
"Haa.."
Joel, shaking, forced himself up again. His sword trembled in his hand. He rushed once more, his face pale but his eyes desperate. He swung wildly, every strike aimed to kill.
The Orc King caught his blade with one hand. The monster's grip was like a vice, unshaken. With a cruel chuckle, it yanked the weapon away and drove its foot into Joel's chest.
Joel screamed as he was hurled backward, crashing onto the cold stone floor. His body twitched, his breath shallow.
The Orc King stood tall over them, its massive body looming like a mountain. Its sword gleamed in the firelight. Blood stained its skin, but its grin never left.
"Pathetic… all of you," it said, its voice echoing through the broken hall.
"I waited for
Haro lost arrow after arrow, his hands shaking. "Die! Die already!" he shouted. Each shot bounced off the Orc King's skin like twigs snapping against.
