Upon waking up I could see that everything around me was still perfectly fine. I was laying on something soft though, it kind of felt like the perfect pillow.

"Someone looks happy." Akina says quietly.

Looking up I could see Akina looking down at me, I'm laying on her lap. That makes a lot more sense now.

"Just didn't expect to wake up like this." I reply with a nervous tone.

"We didn't want you sleeping on the ground so I volunteered to give you a pillow." Akina says with a smile.

"I also did a bit of looking around." Ghost chimes in.

"What'd you find?" I ask, still laying on Akina's lap.

"Something about 'The Old Watchers' in this old journal. They left it in one of the rooms inside that building." Ghost answers while holding the journal.

The old watchers? There's no way that could be the name of their group since they don't seem to be just watching over things. Those guys were targeting people and killing for whatever reason.

I wouldn't think that it would fall under "Watching" if anything. Or maybe they happened to take over this place and it belonged to the old watchers.

That would also make a lot of sense if that was the case.

I sat up, instantly regretting the idea of leaving behind those soft thighs. But nonetheless I needed to get up and back into the swing of everything.

"Before we go any further here, how long was I out?" I question with a curious tone.

"I'd say a couple of hours." Akina answers from behind me.

"Yeah, it wasn't that long." Ghost speaks with a calm tone to her voice.

I'll take a couple of hours over a couple of days. That's definitely progress in the right direction since I would just pass out for days after using excessive amounts of power.

I really have come a long way since learning how to use this power.

Being able to use more power without just passing out for days on end is a huge accomplishment alone. Means I'll be a lot more useful to everyone as well.

You have been working hard so it makes sense that you would be able to run on less sleep. The sleep is only forced when your body can't keep up with power being used.

Safe to say my body is getting used to how much power I use each time I fight. I'll take that as a win for the time being.

I know I'll be pushing myself harder with each big fight that I encounter but my body will adjust to it again. That'll be the key to getting stronger and stronger.

Pushing my body to it's absolute limits.

A human being able to turn into a dragon doesn't really seem human to me. I feel like I'm on a fine line between human and monster at this point.

I don't want people thinking I'm a monster but if it means I'll be strong enough to face the Monarch's some day, I'll take it.

They won't just wait around for me to get stronger either.

The world will probably only get worse as time continues to go on, we'll have to figure out how to deal with them.

Very true. I haven't exactly figured out the path to getting strong enough to beat them just yet. The path of the dragon isn't really an easy path to follow.

It also doesn't hold all the power I need to beat such powerful beings, at least not yet.

I'll definitely beat them when the time comes....

At least we have plenty of enemies to practice against in the meantime. Monsters, corrupt people, or even hunters.

Wouldn't hunters fall under the corrupt people category?

Only if they are corrupt. You don't know how hunters will react when they see those scales.

Good reminder. I haven't really thought about what will happen if they see me with a lot more scales than the gauntlet. Originally the gauntlet was the closest thing to hiding the power in plain sight.

Now I don't think I could use it with the kind of power I'm using against enemies. I'd be cutting my power back quite a bit in combat if that's the case.

It'll be a pain in the ass to do it like that every time too.

"What are you thinking about?" Akina asks with a curious look on her face.

"Just trying to figure out the next move to make here." I respond while still feeling nervous.

"We definitely need to hunt down the guys who got away, but we can't forget about the towers either." Akina says with a more serious tone.

The towers are also back which poses a problem as well, that is a good point that she made. We can't forget about the towers either so it would be best to snuff out the problem before moving on.

That gang needs to be killed before we move on since they are causing issues the way it is. We don't know any of their targets either so people are still in danger.

"They couldn't have gone far. That teleportation method is a short range one, I found the device they used in a small shack." Velia speaks up for us to hear.

Loudest I've heard her ever.

"Here I thought they actually had some sort of power to teleport." I respond with a bit of disappointment.

"Don't sound so disappointed. Them having to use a device is a good thing, that means we can get to them easier." Velia says with a evil smirk on her face.

She is getting excited about killing again... I can't say I'm surprised about it since these are pretty bad people. Maybe she can be like that because of their intentions.

Shitty people like them deserve to die anyway so it's real easy to justify it, at least that's my opinion.

I'm glad you aren't like the heroes from my old life. They would be against killing, even if the people deserve it.

I've lived in a kill or be killed world for quite some time now, it only makes sense to me. It doesn't get any easier to kill people but I'm capable of doing it.

I live with each death that I dish out...

It doesn't matter if they were a piece of garbage or if they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm sure my destructive fights have caused people harm, especially in Elyndra.

I never really heard anything about deaths up there after the fight but it doesn't mean I can't think about it.

"So can we track where they teleported to?" Akina asks with a serious tone.

"I can probably figure it out pretty quick." Ghost chimes in before Velia can answer.

"Then we'll leave the tracking to you Ghost." I say with a pretty confident tone.

Ghost shouts be able to handle that pretty damn easily since she's a cyborg after all. I probably could figure it out too since I've handled a lot of tech but I want her to play a big part too.

It's a lot nicer when everyone can contribute to the quest at hand.

I'm sure Lucien will be happy when this gang is dealt with. I just wonder why he wouldn't handle it himself since he is definitely quite strong.

The amount of power I could sense from him each time is definitely insane so there's no way he couldn't handle it. I think he just doesn't like to show the guild his true power or maybe he's afraid of people targeting even more.

I could never understand what the reasoning is, it's just not something easy to figure out.

"Seems we are back to waiting while Ghost handles that." Akina says while making some chairs.

She used her power to make some comfortable chairs for us to sit in while we wait. It is definitely nice to have someone like Akina with us since she can make an easy camp for us.

I also just noticed that the sun is starting to go down a bit so monsters will probably be out and about soon.

This place seems relatively safe, I don't think there's any reason to worry just yet. The camp itself has some sort of defense setup for monsters, just not humans.

I wondered what some of those strange wires were that I saw back when we were scouting. They were obvious for a human eye if you actually paid attention, but not to a monster.

These guys are definitely smart with how they handle the defense of their base. I don't get why they wouldn't have traps for humans to trigger though.

Maybe they wanted humans to stumble upon the base without a problem. I don't think the whole gang is weak.

I think you're right. They probably have more strong members hiding about, just we didn't get a chance to meet them. That could be why they retreated as well.
