Alice worked faster when she realised she had to please Max. Who was the guy she was working on? She couldn't even be bothered.
"Please open your eyes." Alice said to Reith but her gaze was still on Max who was paying his dues by winking at her.
Reith followed her instructions and after the process was done, Alice raised a device and took his hand, stretching it towards herself.
"I'd be placing a three dimensional matrix code on the front of your wrist to mark you as someone with a pulse id. It's easier than carrying a card on you every time." Alice said.
As he nodded, he saw that her reaction changed anytime she was forced to focus on him.
"Thank you." Reith said, looking at her bringing a device to his wrist.
The pain was light, like a needle prick, and then a small screen appeared in front of him.
Name: Kion [E-rank]
Current Mission: None
Guild Name: None
"Right now, there'd be a screen in front of you. It'd display everything you need to know." Alice said, fulfilling her duty.
When Reith didn't ask a question, she turned to face Max but her lover boy was nowhere to be found.
Max had escaped because he knew that Alice would keep him there and then demand some sort of 'reward' for her quick services.
He gripped Reith's free hand and pulled him away from the stand.
When they were far away, he raised his hand.
"Thank you Alice. I knew you could do it for me." He called out, and the lady turned towards his direction but he was already too far away from her.
Seeing the pouting look on her face, Max sighed within himself. He turned around and gave her an air kiss. "This is just for you." He said with a grin.
He was a nice guy after all, at least that was what he believed.
"Would she be okay?" Reith wanted to ask but then he turned to the back.
Behind him, Alice had a goofy smile over her face and there seemed to be love shapes dancing around her face.
It was obvious she'd be fine.
Max pulled Reith away from the noisy area, drawing to a group of people that gathered.
"You think this isn't too dangerous?"
"Ray, If you want out, then no one is forcing you to stay. Don't sabotage this for me because I recommend you."
The whispers were amongst the group because they were all waiting for one man.
"But we are going to the outskirts. What if?"
"Don't ruin this for me with your back luck, Rick. If you want to leave, get out. Now keep quiet, that guy is coming."
Ray clamped down on his lips but it wasn't without a frown.
Although he believed that so many things could go wrong, he needed the money.
Then he would be able to support his wife's delivery with the best of healers.
Max pulled Reith into the group, and he faced them as a whole.
"Hey everyone. Thank you for accepting my offer and now this is our merry band." He said with a cheerful voice.
Reith looked around the gathering, he could see that noone matched Max's energy, they all frowned and glared at him.
Even Max felt a bit cornered but he wasn't going to show it.
"I know you all haven't been told what the mission is, but trust me, you are in safe hands. You have one of the best teams in the Alliance guiding you." There was a grin on Max's face.
His eyes darted around, and landed on a few of those standing in the group.
"There's Cassia, one of our best archers." Max pointed to a lady who rested her back on the wall. Around her back was an emerald bow that glittered under the light.
"With her on this team, you can rest, assured that there would be no sneak attack. Just don't talk to her." There was a hint of warning in Max's tone and it made Cassia scoff.
This caused the men that were drooling to keep their tongues in their mouth.
"There you have Matchet." Max said, pointing at another person.
Anyone could tell that he was introducing the members of his original team.
There was not much to say about Matchet, and the heavy mallet by his side complimenting his large muscular build, told them everything they needed to know.
"Don't go close to him also." Max warned.
He went further to introduce the rest of his team.
Tia, was one of them but she was fully covered and even donned a cloak on top her other wears. There were no weapon around her to guess her ability.
Minx had taken a space beside Reith and he was a lot shorter than Reith but the white hair on Minx's face showed that he wasn't to be messed with.
"Everyone. The mission is simple. We are escorting a noble family through the outskirts into a different region."
Before he could even finish, someone yelled out.
"Then why do you need so much people!"
This immediately caused the rest of them to not hold back and voice out their complaints.
A man with a large beard stepped out also, "Do you want us to serve as fodders so your so-called nobleness can pass?"
Ray nodded as he had always been suspicious but he wanted others to talk instead of him.
Another person stepped out too. "What good is the money? To build our graves? There's no grave even in the outskirts!"
The whole group was getting rowdy and Max looked at them.
This was why he hated dealing with amateurs. They were so noisy and uncultured.
He pinched between his eyebrows. "Matchet." His voice was soft but it didn't go without an effect.
Matchet moved, gripped his large mallet and placed it on his shoulder with an heavy thud.
Seeing the display, everyone closed their mouths.
"Now listen to me." Max began. "Yes I know the outskirts is dangerous and it goes to say that some of you would die."
It was then he dropped the bomb.
