SSS GRADE TALENT: Master of the Heavenly Path

Chapter 51: A SHIFT IN POWER BALANCE

It was nearly time for the Final Selection and the whole school was bustling.

Even the citizens in the main city knew that something was happening. Everyone had expectations for what this year's Final Selection would be.

The students were also eager, but not many of them could be seen among the preparations as they had to conserve their strength for the coming battle.

The Final Selection would begin in five days. Even the Regional Insignia was everywhere.

"Jeran, how are the guards? Are they everywhere?" Leon asked his brother as they both walked outside of their large home, a mansion fit for a king and more.

It had actually been built from Jeran's idea, since Leon did not like flashy things.

"Yes, I have assigned everyone to their position for that day. Kane informed me that there hasn't been any lead on the people who made the attack," Jeran answered.

They turned into a corner, and Leon paused for a moment.

"Have you been watching the boy closely though?" he asked.

Jeran nodded. He had been watching Reith like it was his life purpose.

When he first received the job, he thought it was annoying to watch teenagers, but after the incident at the Alliance, Jeran understood that his brother's instincts were not to be underestimated.

"The boy is doing fairly well. He already has his first technique, and it is lightning based."

Leon nodded slowly. "Expected of the SSS grade. At this rate, he might reach the Spirit Refinement Realm before forty," he said mostly to himself.

Jeran nodded back.

Achieving the Spirit Refinement Realm at the age of forty was worthy of praise. Even he had reached the realm at forty-five, although he looked no older than thirty. That was simply the effect of cultivation.

Leon, who was the Regional Insignia, was just forty-seven, yet he had taken the form of a short teenager. Fun fact, he was not even at the Spirit Refinement Realm, but no one really knew his secret, not even his brother.

All they knew was that this man stood for them and had defeated the Twin-head Mastiff Water Dragon.

And because of that achievement, he had risen to the top as Regional Insignia.

At the front of the mansion, a transport vehicle was waiting.

Jeran held the door for his brother and simply waited.

"We have to be more vigilant. Although that boy doesn't know the power of what he carries, we still need to ensure that his talent doesn't fall into the wrong hands," Leon said.

He did not complete his remaining statement, but Jeran already understood.

If Reith's talent fell into the wrong hands, it would mean a shift in the power balance of the regions on the Continent. Depending on whose hands it fell into, it could mean destruction for the Azure Region.

"I'll do my best," Jeran said. It was not a promise. It was his duty.

Now the head of the region was heading for another expedition, and in order to avoid what had happened at the Alliance Spire, the city would need to be vigilant.

Even more, extra vigilant.

As he watched the vehicle speed off, Jeran took out his mobile communicator.

"Hey, Verity. I think I might have to see you."

There was some grumbling and harsh words on the other side, but he held it far from his ears. Jeran did not want to hear the vicious sounds of an angry woman just because he wanted a checkup.

It was not only the students who were preparing. Even he had to put in some effort.

Although this was the most crucial moment of the event, Reith was busy with something else.

He had been inside his room for almost five days, still trying to perfect his Lightning Whip Strike.

Reith had also learned the technique of the Crimson Burst, which was more of a trump card for him.

Unlike the Lightning Whip Strike, which he had learned from scratch, it seemed like only original techniques were the ones that appeared in his Heavenly Path book.

He had done all he could, but since there had been no changes in his Core Realm page, it meant the technique was not yet fully mastered.

Ruach refused to tell him anything and wanted him to discover it himself.

Reith wore his usual disguise and stepped out of the school.

But his clothes were not so shady, since no one would really care about a student walking freely among the bustling streets.

The shops were full, and the walkways were crowded with sellers.

"Get your potions here! Earth Shattering Fist potion! A grade ten potion available at cheap price!"

"Don't listen to him. You need weapons. Get your top beast-made weapons here, freshly cut from the skin of a Fog Wolf!"

"What do you need weapons for when you are dying of hunger? Get your freshly hot puff cakes here! Buy one and get one free at double the price!"

It was a noise-fest.

Reith kept his head down and moved quickly.

He would have bought a weapon in preparation, but he had no money, and the Heavenly Path could transform into any weapon he wanted.

But there was a downside.

Although it could transform into any weapon he desired, the weapons created were just plain, with no added benefits.

The only thing was that the weapons were indestructible or maybe there was not enough power to destroy them yet. He did not know.

"Finally here," Reith said to himself when he came face to face with the Alliance Spire.

This time, there were so many people around that they had formed a queue at one side of the entrance.

Was this related to the Final Selection?

"I can't believe that man would deny us payment."

"At least we brought him his daughter. Did it matter if she was dead?"

"Such a hard mission. We could have died ourselves. Such an ungrateful… Argh! I'm so angry right now."

Two men passed by Reith and their conversation was about one of their missions.

He was unfortunate enough to hear the details of their conversation.

But their words made his perspective change completely.

"I thought the missions were only related to beast hunting."
