The whole thing looked like a plot.
It wasn't as if Leon hasn't thought about it but wasn't this the lowest of move.
There was no way a regional head who were constantly glowing in their own pride would stoop to such low-handed move.
Verity sighed. "The boy is doing fine." She said in a calm voice, taking a short look at Reith. "I think he would be out cold for some time. With the damage he took to his body, He wasn't supposed to live."
"That's why you're the best." Leon gave her a small smile, through the lens of the communicator she used.
Verity shook her head. "That's where you are getting it wrong. It wasn't my doing. Something.... I felt the hand of someone else in this play."
Leon silently listened but when Verity didn't say anything, he bowed. "Thank you for helping him recover, Verity. Please take good care of him."
"I know my job." Verity said with a side eye, and Leon awkwardly smiled, cutting off the connection.
At his side of the call, Leon hung his shoulders.
All this happened because of his negligence. He had a feeling that something was going wrong and he still chose to sit down in that meeting.
His instincts had never been wrong but the one time he chose to ignore, it went absolutely brutal for him.
Turning to the side, he looked at one of the workers, "What's the count?" He said with a straight face.
The worker saluted and got to reporting, "There were 6 dead people and their names are Inker Autese, Terron Briacker, Art Trace, Felix Diaz, Stella Henson, Black Jaun. Four males and two females."
"Stella?" Leon raised a brow. The name was uncannily familiar.
"She was the hero who contributed to closing the last SSS rift that almost tore the region apart, along with Felix Diaz" The man replied his question.
Leon clenched his fists, he wouldn't rest until he found the culprit. Facepalming his face, he let out a sigh. "And what else?"
"There were seventeen people injured in total, Sir." The man paused, thinking Leon had something to say.
"The damage to the Alliance Building is worth half a million gold coins. That'd be all Sir." With a bow, the man completed his report.
Leon felt like his heart was being ripped apart and he dismissed the man with a wave of his hand.
Powering his communicator, he got across to his brother. The only one he could trust at such a sensitive moment.
"Big brother... I mean Lord Insignia. Yes I heard about everything and I am working towards it. The criminals would pay." Jeran quickly stated as soon as the call connected.
Leon hung his head, and rubbed his eyes in frustration. "I'm sorry. I couldn't hold myself and I killed him before I could get any information." He said and although he had no regrets, it would have been better if information had been gotten.
"No no, Big brother... Lord Insignia. They never would have spoken so you did your best. Trust me with this and I'd get to the bottom of it. Please how is the boy?" Jeran's tone took a calmer toner when he spoke about Reith.
"I took him to Verity. He is being treated in her care." Leon answered.
Jeran quickly nodded his head. "Thank you Big... Lord Insignia. I'd leave you so you can resume your duties."
With that, the call came to an end.
The clearing of the whole incident took around three days and the dead were given a memorial.
In those days, Reith was still sound asleep in Verity's chamber and he was still recovering.
Verity noticed that she had to keep the concentration of the Hana thicker and moving Reith to a different room caused his condition to drop.
It was the sixth day and Reith opened his eyes.
He was almost blinded by the intensity of the sun ray, but he felt something was different with his body.
"Where am I?" He muttered as he sat up on the bed.
Images flowed and his memory returned.
"Master Leon?" He said with a sudden gasp but when he turned, he saw that he was the only one in the room.
Reith inhaled, trying to calm himself down.
The last thing he remembered was Leon walking into the room which meant he was safe.
That was one thing to be happy about. But his heart sunk. Why couldn't he see the others? The man who saved him and even Stella and Lu?
"They must be in other rooms." Reith exhaled. Although everything was over, his brain flashed back to the immense pain he had received.
He moved his arm, and didn't feel any pain. It was comforting.
Then as if remembering something, he made a grab for his cultivation path.
"This place..." Reith looked around. The Hana here was refreshing.
"It's pure." He noted to himself. "I can cultivate here." He smiled widely and sat in a position.
Looking at his path, he smiled. "Thank you God, I didn't think I'd live to see another day." He chuckled slowly, tears forming in his eyes.
Everything he faced in that experience was a lesson.
A lesson that he needed to do more. He couldn't save other or help them if he had little to no strength.
Reith sat in a cross-legged position and he closed his eyes.
Instantly, hana rushed inside of him.
He would make use of this opportunity and create his meridian core.
Channelling the Hana flow, Reith monitored his meridian lines, the same lines that he had countlessly grown familiar with.
Threads of light glimmered underneath his skin, causing his body to glow.
"Okay... Hold it." Reith muttered and his fingers dug into his knees.
Directing the meridian lines to his center was painful but he didn't want to let go of it.
He just needed to pull them to the center of his body.
The lines thickened like they were about to burst, and the hana energy seemed to be spinning faster.
Pain shot through Reith's forehead and sweat pooled on his face.
It was like the lines were slippery to grip but he wasn't giving up, at least not yet.
He had been through so much and he wasn't going to let this chance slip by his hands.
It felt like his very veins were tieing into a knot.
It was then that a stillness appeared.
"Reith, let it go."
