An entire day's worth of the remaining three were used up. All just trying to figure out how high he could go in finding a suitable Spiritual Roots mutation that not only was at a suitable rank for this cultivation world, but also one that didn't sound like a class she would need to level up.
Yin Hu was not about to trust the system to work for the girls when it was utterly broken for him.
Or worse, if they were sent back to the island as a tutorial attempt.
It was a recurring nightmare he kept thinking of every time another option appeared without the subtext of it being a Spiritual Roots mutation arrived. Which happened to cancel out nearly a third of all his options as soon as they showed up.
Some that actually had very high compatibility percentages.
His current issue he had recently resolved was one that left a horrible taste in his mouth. The highest rank or tier mutation he could use in this cultivation was a tier C-. That was the pinnacle. Even then it was fifty percent of the time that the system didn't attempt to ascend her to the next realm. A headache that he nearly had a stroke from after the second appeared on his search for a weaker class.
Yin Hu had felt his heart calm as he learned he would still get the option whether he wanted her to go up or not. Wherever up was.
That started his search and culminated in the discovery of the highest tier he could use.
He stared at the system prompt that was insistently requesting him to answer the yes or no question and apply the mutation. It started flashing at some point to get his attention. Nothing it pulled worked as Yin Hu continued to consider his options.
15 Heavenly Immortal Qi Stones, the Tail of a Juvenile Long Forest Dragon, 1 Dryad Ancient's Core, and finally the upgrade pill he used with the first attempt sat before him. Each item except the last looked almost pedestrian compared to everything else he pulled out of his bag. They were dull and had no glow or affect to their surroundings. No chill or warmth. No goosebumps running down his spine.
They were mundane and had nearly no energy in them. Just blips in his perception skill. Much like what he saw from Jun during the forest fight.
I really don't want to do this, but this is the only way to upgrade her without her instantly ascending. Hopefully I can get another mutation once they are strong enough, or if we ever end up ascending. Wonder if that's possible?
He sighed. Yin Hu knew that he really didn't have a choice.
Considering this class was quite literally the highest compatibility percentage in the tier C- ranks, it would be ridiculous not to accept it and hope it wouldn't prompt him to ascend her. He had seen a C+ that the system would allow in this cultivation world, but it had only two percent compatibility.
Wood Element | Righteous Heavenly Demoness of the Grass Trees - Spiritual Roots - Tier C-.
Its compatibility sat at a measly seventy-three percent. Providing all the soul protection and sustain exponential growth until past the Heavenly Immortal Realm. Yin Hu was so disappointed by the entire thing, he didn't even care anymore about how high that was. Or the fact that there was something beyond that that was the very start and trash of the ascendent realm above this.

Seeing so many SSS+ mutations, hundreds more of every single tier below that all the way until this very point kept the horrible taste in his mouth without any chance of letting it go. It burned his chest. Itched at the back of his mind to do right for the girls and give them the best opportunities possible.
Fuck!
Yin Hu accepted the mutation. He didn't really have any more time to waste considering he had to get through the same process for Shui. He was not looking forward to it. All the amazing names, mutations, and everything else that would pop up.
Only for him to ignore them all and find a bullshit C- tier mutation instead.

Yin Hu sighed again. He put his head down and got to work on getting Shui an equally disappointing mutation. Always keeping one Spiritual Root Upgrade Pill of the one hundred percent purifier type with anything he chose as the resources for the mutation.
He quickly learned that it was far more difficult to find an appropriate class for Shui. Her element was much harder to prompt the system with. Jun's element was as simple as finding a forest, plant based, or anything with a resembling style naming scheme and it worked well. Some came out odd and different elements, but otherwise it did its job.
Not Shui's.
Yin Hu couldn't really find spirit element based items within his bag. The ones he did had abjectly terrifying names. Soul devour of the Blood Moon? Face Stealer Mai Ji's mask? Soul Ripper Necklace? What the hell were these naming schemes and why the hell did he have them in his bag.
He couldn't even remember them appearing during his stint on the floating island.
The search continued for another day. Zhong Da and his wife attempted to check in on him, but after not receiving a response for a half an hour, they returned to their own little camp and busied themselves. Whispering to each other.
Yin Hu did not focus on them or whatever they were talking about. He had far more important things to worry about at the moment. Mostly the very fate and potential future for his little rascal, Shui. Going through the same exact process as he did with Jun in hopes that a higher tier mutation would not prompt the ascension. A wayward hope that was crushed the further the longer he tried to do it.
It took ages but his persistence was rewarded in the final few hours of the allotted time he had.
A C+ tier with seventy-nine percent compatibility with Shui. Better than Jun's in all metrics. The little girl seemed to always get the better end of the stick whenever compared to Jun at all times. Things always worked out in her favor.
Spirit Element | Flying White Tiger's Pinnacle - Spiritual Roots - Tier C+.
Yin Hu wasn't sure what type of pinnacle it could have at C+ tier. He wasn't going to ask or try to check it out. This was the best thing he had found for either girl after days of searching and attempting to prompt the system to work without kicking them out. It was good enough until he could figure out more about mutations and how to get them to happen.
Or maybe figure out a way to ascend?
He shook his head, that was a conversation for another time. One that would likely not happen until the distant future once the girls were too strong to stay in this realm for long. Until then, Yin Hu would do his best to prepare them for nukeness.

He noticed that the timer increased nearly six hours more than Jun's. It wasn't much, but it did get him thinking about the difference between a C+ tier and a SSS+ tier in terms of time unconscious. Would she die from starvation and dehydration without modern tools to provide her the necessary nutrients intravascularly? There was simply too much he did not understand. To many things that would negatively affect himself and the girls if he was not careful around. Especially with anything that came with the system and its shenanigans.
