Chapter 606: The Fourth Trial [ 2 ]
Rael recognized the figure immediately.
It was Kareth.
However, he was severely malnourished. Not only that, his hair and beard were extremely long.
It didn’t take Rael long to figure out that a lot of time had passed for him.
And clearly, Lucien was the one responsible.
“Hello, father,” Lucien said with a curt bow. “I hope you’ve been doing well on the other side.”
Kareth’s eyes were hollow.
Rather, he seemed completely out of it.
But from the slight twitching of his fingers, Rael knew that he was listening.
“Father, what if I told you that I have never truly wished to become the Hollow King? Would you still be proud of me? Would you—”
“I was going to listen to you blabber your bullshit, but I feel like I have to step in here,” Rael cut in with a sigh. “I’d say this is a family quarrel, but you’re not really family, are you?”
With those words, Rael walked past Lucien and stopped in front of Kareth.
He was wayyy too out of it.
But that didn’t mean Rael couldn’t give him a slight nudge.
Placing his hand atop Kareth’s head, Rael sent a pulse of his own mana.
It spread across Kareth’s body, and for a moment, his eyes lit up.
And when those eyes locked onto Rael, his beard vanished immediately.
His hair was cut, and even his face that seemed to have aged a little bit returned to normal.
Within just a few seconds, Kareth’s appearance was the same as what it used to be.
But even so, his frown was still present.
He glanced past Rael and at Lucien.
“That wasn’t a very nice way to welcome someone.”
“I couldn’t help it. Your guard was down,” Lucien replied sheepishly. “Had you been a little more careful and a bit more observant, none of this would have ever happened.”
“Right…” Kareth sighed, rubbing his temples. Then his gaze sharpened further.
“How long have you had me under this hypnosis?”
Lucien smiled. “Now you’re interested? Well, who knows? I’m not someone who keeps track of time.”
He approached Kareth and stood right beside Rael.
“Kareth, why don’t we skip the pleasantries and end this?”
“I was thinking that too.” Kareth rose from the throne.
The amount of pressure he suddenly exuded was way beyond what Rael had felt the previous times.
And Lucien was no exception.
Despite only appearing as a Grade 2, his power suddenly rose.
Within just a few seconds, it went beyond Grade 2, 3, and eventually 4.
It didn’t stop there as it rose to over Grade 5, 6… and finally, he surpassed Rael.
His power increase only stopped when his mana matched Kareth’s.
In the blink of an eye, Lucien powered up so much that he rivaled a Supreme Monster. Rael, on the other hand, was helpless.
If a brawl were to break out between them right now, which it most likely would, then he was screwed.
But the fact that Lucien managed to hide this much power, and even now, aside from his exponentially increased mana, his appearance remained the same.
Just then, both of them turned toward Rael.
“I’ve always been curious how many times your soul can be destroyed before actually fizzling out,” Lucien said slowly. “Do tell, Rael. Have you ever wondered what is the extent of your money-based abilities? I’m sure—”
Before he could finish his words, his face distorted.

A fist landed square on his cheek, sending him flying off into the distance.
Because of how powerful the punch was, even Rael was forced back several meters.
Rael swiftly got over the recoil, and when he looked back, he saw Kareth staring at him with a pitiful expression.
“I apologize for getting you involved in this.”
Rael’s brows furrowed. “And what is this exactly?”
He didn’t say anything else, but as the tension grew inside the throne room, Rael realized that he had no choice but to make some distance. Otherwise, their fight would actually kill him.
And so, with a single step, he blasted out of the throne room, appearing several dozen countries away from the battle.
But for some strange reason, he felt someone heading straight for him. A moment later, Lucien appeared in front of him.
Rael couldn’t react to Lucien’s fist, which tore straight through his chest, ripping out his heart.

But despite his heart being ripped out, Rael didn’t budge an inch as his body immediately began repairing itself.
That, while he didn’t even have a heart intact.

A new heart formed in the previous heart’s place. Of course, it was the Dragon Heart.
“So you can regenerate that as well,” Lucien mused. “Should we move on to testing your soul, hm?”
Rael stared at him for a moment, then let out a sigh.
“I can’t help but feel like you’re just a little obsessed with me.”
“Your existence merely interests me, is all,” Lucien replied honestly. “Aside from your strange way to convert energy, your life or other encounters do not interest me.”
Rael felt Kareth’s mana again, and it seemed like he was about to appear before them.
After all, they were all moving at several times the speed of light.
But until then, Rael just remained speechless, thinking of the many times he had been set up against these powerful beings.
Not once did he actually win against them.
Even so, Rael knew that giving up completely wasn’t an option.
So what if this guy knew every move I’d make?
So what if he could literally be in a gazillion different places in time at once?
In the end, he was still limited by his own power.
Gaia… How ready is it?
[…]
[You could try using it, but the mental strain will put you out of commission for a very long time,] she replied.
Hearing that, Rael took a deep breath.
Over the past few hours… Gaia had made some significant progress on her little project.
And now, it was about time he used it.
