The sudden and unexpected turn of events left both Gu Jiao and Gu Chengfeng momentarily stunned.

Gu Chengfeng was well aware of Long Yi's temperament; this man was cold and distant, refusing to let anyone approach him unless it was Xiao Heng or this little girl. Otherwise, it was best not to provoke him.

Had Liao Chen lost his mind?

He actually dared to snatch something from Long Yi’s hands?

No, something wasn’t right. Why would he try to take Long Yi’s belongings?

And he even lifted Long Yi’s mask!

Long Yi——

Gu Chengfeng's gaze instinctively landed on Long Yi's striking face.

"Ah…"

He was utterly shocked.

So this was what Long Yi really looked like? He had always assumed that the Dragon Shadow Guards wore a mask because they were hideous. But it turned out, he wore it because he was too handsome!

This level of handsomeness was practically a crime against humanity.

Long Yi’s attractiveness carried a heroic air, tinged with the charisma of a wandering swordsman. Yet at the same time, he lacked the warmth of the mundane world, possessing instead the natural cluelessness of an unparalleled martial expert.

Gu Chengfeng glanced at Long Yi, then at Liao Chen, and couldn't help but mutter inwardly, just what’s going on here? Since when did top martial experts rely on their looks?

The two of you are making me feel painfully average.

His thoughts had completely gone off track, mostly because he didn’t believe they would actually start fighting.

"Alright, alright, Jing Kong’s master, if you want to see Long Yi’s things, you need to talk to… this little girl and have her ask Long Yi for you, got it?" He cupped his hand beside his mouth and whispered to Liao Chen, "Let me tell you, Long Yi is a bit stingy."

However, Liao Chen could no longer hear anything. His eyes were filled with an intense killing intent, something that not even Gu Jiao had ever witnessed before; not even when he was dealing with the embroidered-uniform guards of the Crown Prince Estate had he looked this murderous.

Gu Jiao stared at Liao Chen with a peculiar expression.

Liao Chen picked himself up from the ground, his gaze locked firmly onto Long Yi.

By this time, Long Yi had already put his mask back on.

But what did it matter?

That face—he had already memorized it!

"I’m going to kill you!" Liao Chen stomped down hard, launching himself into the air, and struck directly at Long Yi’s vital point with a deadly attack.

Gu Chengfeng’s expression changed. "Hey, seriously? You’re actually going all out? All Long Yi did was push you! Is that really worth it? You were the one who tried to take his stuff first!"

One was Jing Kong’s master, the other was Long Yi—this was truly a tough fight to break up.

——He would never admit it was because his martial arts weren’t strong enough to stop them.

Liao Chen’s full-force strike actually forced Long Yi to retreat several steps.

Liao Chen was genuinely determined to kill. He unleashed his entire strength, and under the overwhelming obsession of needing to kill Long Yi, he exhibited an unimaginable level of power.

Long Yi had not received any orders to kill Liao Chen, so for the time being, he wasn’t harboring a strong intent to kill. He primarily focused on defense.

But Liao Chen pressed on relentlessly. If this continued, both of them would end up severely injured.

"Stop!" Gu Jiao rushed forward.

"Get out of my way!" Liao Chen’s eyes burned with fury. With a flick of his sleeve, he released a surge of internal force that sent Gu Jiao flying to the side.

Though the strike didn’t harm Gu Jiao, in Long Yi’s eyes, it was an attack against her. His entire presence shifted in an instant, and when Liao Chen launched another attack at him, he no longer dodged; instead, he met the attack head-on with a powerful punch!

Fist and palm collided, sending a terrifying shockwave exploding through the street.

Gu Chengfeng swiftly leapt backward, narrowly avoiding the shattered stones that rained down on the spot where he had just been standing.

Liao Chen coughed up a mouthful of blood, while Long Yi sustained a minor injury.

Under normal circumstances, Liao Chen wouldn’t have been able to land a hit on Long Yi. But the overwhelming hatred inside him had pushed his abilities to their absolute peak—he was ready to die together with Long Yi.

"You two, leave this place!"

He didn’t want to hurt the innocent.

"Long Yi, let’s go back." Gu Jiao turned to Long Yi and said, "There’s no need to fight him."

Long Yi’s killing intent came quickly and disappeared just as fast. If Gu Jiao said not to fight, then he wouldn’t fight.

Liao Chen fixed his blazing gaze on Long Yi’s retreating figure and shouted, "He is not allowed to leave!"

With a powerful leap, Liao Chen gathered every ounce of his internal force, forming the momentum of a fierce tiger as he soared through the air, aiming a devastating palm strike at Long Yi’s back!

Gu Jiao had already said—no fighting.

It was just like when Xiao Heng used to play with him as a child. When they played "One, Two, Three, Don’t Move," Long Yi could remain motionless for a full hour without budging.

A flash of astonishment crossed Liao Chen’s eyes. Was this guy really not going to fight back? Was he actually going to take this palm strike head-on? No matter how powerful a martial expert was, taking this blow directly would cause severe damage to the heart and lungs!

Yet, Long Yi still did not make a move.

Liao Chen’s palm was mere inches away from slamming into Long Yi’s back, ready to deliver a blow that could injure his heart.

But at that moment, from the far end of the street, a soft yet eerily demonic voice rang out——

"Master!"

Liao Chen’s entire presence wavered, his internal force momentarily scattering. In the next instant, he plummeted from midair, landing face-first on the ground in a spectacularly undignified sprawl.

Little Jing Kong released Xiao Heng’s hand and came running over with his short little legs, pattering toward them. "JiaoJiao! Long Yi!"

After greeting the two of them, he turned around and squatted beside his fallen master, sprouting like a tiny mushroom. "Master, why did you fall again?"

Liao Chen remained facedown, his hands digging into the ground as his entire body trembled with suppressed rage.

Do you really have no idea why I fell?!

You little monk!

Do you need to cause trouble for your master every single day to survive?!

"You’re a grown-up, and I don’t have the strength to help you up anyway. So, Master, you can just get up on your own!" With that, the little guy decisively abandoned his master and happily ran over to Gu Jiao.

Liao Chen: "……!!"

This disciple was absolutely unworthy of keeping!

Gu Jiao patted Little Jing Kong’s small head, then looked toward Xiao Heng, who was approaching, and asked, "Why are you two here?"

Xiao Heng raised an eyebrow and glanced at the little one.

The little one immediately shook his head, then blurted out in the most suspicious way possible, "It wasn’t me who wanted to eat candied haws!"

By now, Long Yi no longer froze when he saw Xiao Heng and Little Jing Kong together. However, whether he still treated Little Jing Kong as a miniature version of Xiao Heng was something only he knew in his heart.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
