Volume 12 - Yomi-no-kuni: Chapter 162 – Danger

The Imperial Princess reappeared above Rakshasa-Onna in an instant and stomped down viciously, sending her crashing into Asura-Onna. The two sisters collided violently.

“Ah!”

“Ugh!”

The sisters cried out in pain as their bodies slammed together.

Turning her gaze, the Imperial Princess caught sight of Ayaka’s dance. For a brief moment, even she was captivated by the rhythm and chime of the bells.

A golden fan of divine light appeared behind Queen Kaguya and struck the Imperial Princess with a sudden burst of force, sending her flying.

The Imperial Princess steadied herself after being flung backward, then dropped to her knees, coughing violently.

Queen Kaguya prepared to unleash more divine spells, but hesitated. Something in the sight of the weakened Imperial Princess made her pause—she looked almost… ill.

The Imperial Princess quickly recovered and turned her eyes toward Ayaka. Though surrounded by the mesmerizing dance and melodic bells, her strength rendered their effects negligible.

“Well now… I didn’t expect this,” she muttered, narrowing her eyes. With a flick, she unsheathed her blade. “Break.”

Dark pulses of energy shot from her blade, tearing through the air. They lashed across Ayaka’s body, shredding her garments and leaving red welts before hurling her to the ground. The Imperial Princess descended beside her and yanked her up by force.

Black ropes of dark energy coiled into the Imperial Princess’ palm as she prepared to bind Ayaka.

Ayaka summoned a glowing pearl and tried to press it against her navel, but the Imperial Princess halted her with a surge of dark energy. In desperation, Ayaka lashed out with a kick—only for the Princess to catch her ankle mid-swing.

“Hmph. Tall as you are, your ankles are disappointingly frail,” the Princess remarked coldly. She sent a pulse of dark charm energy into Ayaka’s foot.

“Ah…” The energy surged upward through Ayaka’s limbs, making her entire body tremble involuntarily.

“If you like lifting your legs so much, let me help you raise them higher,” the Princess sneered. The dark ropes snaked around Ayaka’s limbs, waist, and chest, lifting her into the air and suspending her upside down. Despite being one of the most powerful Celestial Stage warriors, Ayaka was utterly outclassed—handled like a child.

Humiliation and helplessness overwhelmed Ayaka as she dangled in the air, her clothing fluttering awkwardly with her every slight movement.

Queen Kaguya grimaced, regretting her hesitation. She cast a series of divine spells toward the Princess, but each was blocked by the writhing black tentacles that now guarded her.

“Sister Ayaka!” Lily cried out, forcing several abyssal demons aside as she charged toward the Imperial Princess. But before she could reach her, the Supreme God wielding the massive battleaxe returned—drawn back now that the Princess had regained the advantage. He stepped between them, blocking Lily’s path.

Without Ayaka’s dance to tip the scales, Lily couldn’t break through his formidable defenses.

The demon god was stronger than Lily had anticipated—and far quicker, too. His battleaxe radiated the crushing force of dark and metallic energy. Lily didn’t dare take him head-on; her only option was to weave through his attacks, striking only when she found an opening.

Not far off, Rei turned and unleashed a precise strike. A flash of silver light sliced through an Infernal demonic spirit, severing a long portion of its tail. The dismembered piece glowed eerily as it tumbled into the abyss, while the injured spirit, now off-balance, spun in disoriented circles.

“What a fine weapon—but you’re unworthy of it!” the Imperial Princess growled as she lunged straight at Rei, aiming to seize her sword by force.

Queen Kaguya and Chiya rushed in to block the Imperial Princess. Though Chiya was still recovering from her injuries—only barely stabilized by Kaguya’s healing—she stood her ground.

Even together, they barely managed to slow the Imperial Princess down. With a swift strike of her scabbard, the Imperial Princess sent Chiya crashing back. Queen Kaguya followed with a wave of divine spells from her golden jade branch, but they were instantly countered and unraveled.

“Lily! Catch it!” Rei cried out, leaping into the air and tossing the sword toward her, completely disregarding her own safety.

“Fool!” the Imperial Princess snarled, releasing a surge of dark energy from her blade. The wave shattered Kaguya’s spells and sent her flying. She paid Rei no mind—without the divine sword in hand, a mere Big Dipper posed no threat to her.

Lily reacted swiftly—blocking the descending battleaxe with Oborozuki Muramasa in one hand while catching Rei’s sword in the other.

As her fingers wrapped around the hilt, a surge of immense power coursed through her. Just as the battleaxe threatened to overpower her, Lily pivoted midair and slashed at the demon god’s thick, armored arm with the newly received blade.

A radiant arc of purple Lunar Force—tinged with icy energy—burst from her swing. The blade met its mark with a clean, metallic clash, slicing clean through the demon god’s arm.

It was the flesh of a Supreme God—yet it had been cleaved like paper.

Even at her strongest, Oborozuki Muramasa could only wound him. But with this sword, she had severed his arm in one strike.

“What?!” The Imperial Princess’ eyes widened in disbelief.

Sensing danger, the demon god dropped his battleaxe and spun around in a frantic attempt to flee.

But this—this was a rare chance to kill a Supreme God. Realistically, Lily lacked the raw power to defeat a Supreme God. Even holding her own was difficult, and in a prolonged fight, she would inevitably lose. But this sword defied conventional measure.

Just as a common child could kill a warrior with the right blade, so too could Lily, wielding this divine sword, slice through the flesh of a Supreme God with ease. Even a Throned Stage warrior could slay a Celestial—if armed with this weapon and granted a clean strike.

“There’s no doubt—it’s Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi!” the Imperial Princess declared, her voice grim.

“Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi?” Both Lily and Rei stiffened. Hearing the name spoken aloud twice by the Imperial Princess sent chills through them.

Could it be? Was the sword Rei had always carried truly the legendary Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi?

Seizing the moment, Lily charged after the fleeing demon and aimed for his vital point. Even a Supreme God would fall to such a strike.

Just as her blade neared its target, a flash of dark light flared—and the Imperial Princess materialized between them.

Now face to face with the Imperial Princess, Lily hesitated. Normally, she wouldn’t stand a chance—but this was different. With Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi in hand, if she could land a single, precise strike, even the Imperial Princess might fall.

Legends of Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi had echoed since the Heian Dynasty—an ancient divine blade said to be gifted by Amaterasu-Ōmikami to a god of old.

Sensing Lily’s hesitation, the Imperial Princess smirked. “You arrogant fool. Do you really think holding Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi makes you my equal?”

Lily struck out with both blades, but her hesitation made her timing imperfect. The Imperial Princess slipped past the assault as if vanishing, reappearing at Lily’s side. With a brutal swing of her scabbard, she struck Lily in the waist. The impact twisted Lily’s insides, severing her focus and sending her stumbling to the ground in pain.
