Chapter 3048: CultivationEditor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
"Oh?"
The third prince immediately turned to look at Cleriway and the other two, asking in a deep voice, "Which of you understands the cultivation of the ancient Tree of Life?"
Cleriway and the other two glanced at each other cautiously. None of them dared to speak.
"Hmph!"
Brand had been watching Cleriway from the beginning. He let out a cold snort and said, "Cleriway, I remember not long ago you were cultivating a sacred tree, weren’t you? I recall that the sacred tree possessed a power of the same origin as our elves’ Tree of Life."
The third prince hadn’t been aware of Cleriway’s background. Hearing this, his eyes immediately lit up, and he stared intently at Cleriway.
There was hope!
A sacred tree of the same origin couldn’t just be cultivated by anyone.
There had to be something special about Cleriway.
An elven guard struck Cleriway hard on the back and shouted sternly, "Cleriway! The elder asked you a question! Answer it!"
Cleriway knelt down with her head lowered and denied it, "Your Highness, I have cultivated a human sacred tree before, but I know nothing about the cultivation of the Tree of Life, let alone cultivating a new generation seed. I truly don’t know."
The third prince turned his gaze to Kapa.
"Kapa, can you confirm her identity?"
Kapa immediately lowered his head and followed Fang Heng’s lead, saying, "Your Highness, we found a few related magic arrays inside the cavern. We can try to reconstruct the magic array. If she is truly the Goddess, she should be able to activate it."
Magic array?
It was the first time Brand had heard of this. He looked toward Elder Doris, who had been in charge of translating the stone wall inscriptions from the cavern.
Elder Doris frowned slightly.
There were indeed several ancient magic arrays carved into the stone wall, but without exception, all of them were severely damaged and nearly impossible to restore.
But from what she knew, the existing super-sized magic arrays used to control the Tree of Life in the elven race were prototypes based on those same arrays from the cavern. So it couldn’t be said that Kapa was making things up.
Elder Doris asked, "Kapa, are you referring to those ancient magic arrays? They’re in ruins. How do you expect to use them?"
"There are partial inscriptions on the rock wall that describe those magic arrays. Combined with some of the basic structure and paths, we can more or less piece it together," Kapa said, bracing himself and mimicking Fang Heng’s tone. "I’ve studied some alchemy, so I understand it."
Elder Doris found it all a bit too coincidental and frowned again, "Kapa, you certainly seem to know a lot."
"Uh..." Kapa mumbled and said softly, "The Flying Squirrel Clan is a well-learned race..."
"Then what are you waiting for? Kapa! Go set up the magic array immediately! Once it’s done, let the three of them try it, and we’ll know for sure!"
Eager for merit, the third prince didn’t think as deeply as the two elders. He only thought the rest of them were fools for not figuring out such a simple matter.
Kapa lowered his head and said respectfully, "Sir, what we need to set up is a super-sized magic array. It takes a long time to construct. We need help from the elves."
"How many people? How long?"
"We’ll need at least twenty scholars proficient in alchemy. As for the time, I believe we can finish it in a week."
A week?
What a joke!
How could he afford to wait that long?
By then, the elves might already be wiped out by the Disaster!
The third prince said in a low voice, "No, you don’t have that much time. At most, eight hours. If you can’t complete it, you’ll die with it. Understand?"
Kapa opened his mouth and turned pale instantly, as if struck.
Buried with it?
He was doomed!
Mr. Fang! What’s going on? Say something, Mr. Fang!
Kapa panicked. When Fang Heng didn’t respond at all, he felt his life hanging by a thread. He quickly knelt down and kowtowed like pounding garlic, "Your Highness! That’s impossible! Eight hours is far too short! There’s no way to complete a super-sized magic array in that time! Please spare me!"
The two elders watched Kapa beg and frowned slightly.
He didn’t seem to be lying.
The third prince’s face remained cold, without a trace of sympathy.
Seven days to complete the magic array—clearly impossible.
If the entire elven race was doomed anyway, he didn’t mind letting Kapa die with them.
Just then, a guard rushed in and quietly reported, "Your Highness, the pressure on the battlefield is intense. The Elven King sent me to ask about the situation."
The third prince clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking audibly. He looked at Kapa with a murderous expression.
Brand said, "Your Highness, there are existing large magic arrays within the elves. I’ve seen the structures on the stone wall, and the core framework is similar. We might be able to modify one of the existing magic arrays. That could save a lot of time."
"Modify a magic array?"
The third prince turned to Kapa. "This is your last chance. Can you do it?"
Kapa froze for a moment. Finally, he heard Fang Heng’s voice in his ear. He hurriedly nodded, "Modification is possible! I can do it! I can modify the array! That will save a lot of time—I will do everything I can to complete the modifications as quickly as possible..."
The third prince couldn’t be bothered to look at Kapa again. He cupped his hands toward the two elders and said, "Elders, the elves are facing an unprecedented crisis. Please lend your aid."
"Very well."
The third prince let out a sigh of relief and told the nearby guard, "Report to the King truthfully. We have confirmed the identity of the Goddess and are preparing to construct the magic array according to the prophecy from the cavern. If we’re given a little more time, we will be able to avert this crisis."
"Yes, sir!"
...
The entire elven race was on the brink of destruction. Although the two elven elders still harbored deep doubts about Kapa, they decided to treat a dead horse as if it could still be healed.
They had to try.
Word from the frontlines was grim—the battlefield pressure was immense.
The elves still hadn’t found an effective way to eliminate the mutant worms, and the Tree of Life’s power was being slowly drained.
The Tree of Life had already begun to wither further, and the area it protected was shrinking again.
No one had expected that within just a few hours, the situation would deteriorate so drastically—the entire elven race truly stood on the edge of destruction, just as the prophecy had foretold.
They had no other choice now.
Things couldn’t get much worse anyway.
They had to gamble.
Just try it.
Maybe there was still a chance.
Kapa, Cleriway, and the others were taken to a large prayer temple in the central region of the Elven Capital.
The temple was located within the giant ancient Tree of Life, more like a wooden structure carved out from the tree trunk itself.
Upon entering the temple hall, a group of elven priests stepped back and bowed respectfully.
"Greetings, Your Highness."
At the center of the Great Hall, a large magic array had been set up.
The magic array slowly rotated, blossoming with a glowing green light.
