Chapter 3567: Medusa (33)
It still thought of itself as a tiny bird. Whenever it encountered trouble, its first instinct was to fly away as fast as possible. If Ning Shu hadn’t still been there, it likely would have flown far away long ago.
It lacked any clear understanding of its own power. Its low IQ was a serious liability!
Hearing Ning Shu’s voice, the firebird quickly flew down. It transformed back into a tiny ruby-like bird and perched on her shoulder.
Ning Shu: …
“Get big and carry me,” Ning Shu said irritably. The little bird tilted its head at her, looking melt-your-heart adorable in its confusion.
Ning Shu felt like swatting it away.
She projected her consciousness into the bird’s mind, conveying her intention directly.
The little bird struggled to understand her meaning, but eventually it transformed into a massive bird, then spread its wings and took flight.
Ning Shu pointed a finger, causing the spherical, water-filled boundary to float onto the bird’s back. She sat cross-legged behind it, carefully sensing the shipwrecks in the sea below. Soon, a chest full of gems and gold coins flew up to join her.
Looking at the chest, Ning Shu figured it should be enough to cover her living expenses.
The treasures of the sea were truly plentiful.
Ning Shu closed her eyes and began to cultivate and repair her damaged body. She seemed to end up injured every time. Her physical form was truly pitiable.
It hurt so much!
However, her efforts had paid off. At the very least, Zeus was now sealed within her boundary.
Zeus couldn’t even speak inside the sphere. Seeing him look so small and helpless made the pain in Ning Shu’s body feel a little less intense.
The most important thing now was to find a place to settle down and then deal with Zeus at her leisure. Ideally, Zeus would remain missing long enough for the gods on Mount Olympus to get busy nominating a new king of the gods. Then Zeus would become nothing more than a figure of the past.
Hehe!
Zeus floated within the boundary. When he saw Ning Shu staring at him with such a blatant, predatory gaze, his skin began to crawl.
What did this woman plan to do with him? Inside the boundary, Zeus felt completely powerless. He couldn’t even breathe. It was only because his divine body was so tough that he hadn’t drowned already. A normal human would have been dead long ago.
Ning Shu withdrew her gaze and mobilized the spiritual energy in her internal core to begin healing the bloody mess on her back.
The bird flew without a clear direction, so long as it wasn’t toward Mount Olympus. The world was vast, and she could settle down anywhere.
Ning Shu was utterly exhausted. Her body was spent, so she lay down on the bird’s back to rest. Sleep was the best way to repair the body.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when she heard the bird chirping. She opened her eyes and looked down to see a deserted island.
Ning Shu patted the bird’s back. “Go down.”
The firebird flapped its wings and descended toward the island.
Ning Shu glanced back at Zeus in the boundary. He was suspended in the water with his eyes closed, appearing as if he had stopped breathing and was dead.
Ning Shu didn’t believe for a second that Zeus was dead. Even after Athena had been mangled like that, her heart had still been beating.
As long as the godhead remained, Zeus would be fine. This was likely just an attempt to lower her guard. She wouldn’t fall for it.
In fact, it would be better if Zeus really were dead. It would save her the trouble of killing him herself.
The firebird landed on the island’s beach. Ning Shu hopped down onto the sand, feeling like the place looked familiar. Could this be the same island where Medusa had been exiled after becoming a monster?
Would some ‘hero’ eventually come here to cut off her head? Tsk, after all that wandering, she had ended up right back here.
Since she was here, she might as well stay. It seemed she was destined to be on this island.
The island had a primordial rainforest feel to it. She wasn’t sure what kind of creatures lived here.
Ning Shu looked at Zeus and reached out to tap the boundary. The water inside immediately began to churn violently, tossing Zeus around uncontrollably. It was like he was inside a washing machine.
Zeus opened his eyes and glared at Ning Shu. His hair drifted in the water as he opened his mouth, releasing a flurry of bubbles.
He clearly wanted to speak!
Was this woman going to keep him locked up forever? If he couldn’t get out, what was he supposed to do? Without his Thunderbolt, he had no way to break through this damn thing.
Ning Shu reduced the water in the boundary until Zeus’s head was exposed.
“What do you want?” Zeus roared at Ning Shu.
“I have to keep you in there for a while longer because I don’t dare let you out,” Ning Shu said with a smile. Her hair blew in the sea breeze. She looked like a beautiful girl!
Zeus: …
“The gods will not let you get away with this,” Zeus said through gritted teeth. He had become a prisoner in a water cage.
He had once punished Prometheus, but he never imagined that he would one day be imprisoned by a human woman.
“What do you want?” Zeus was forced to be patient and try to negotiate with her.
If word of this got out, how could he ever rule the gods again? How could he maintain his authority? Zeus couldn’t afford to lose face like this.
Plus, his weapon had apparently been stolen. Dammit!
What a venomous woman! Usually, goddesses and human women wouldn’t dare to disobey him because of his power and status, but none of that seemed to work on this woman. He couldn’t think of anything that would satisfy her.
“Let me go first. Since you have my thunderbolt, I can’t defeat you anyway. I won’t run away. Let’s just live on this island together,” Zeus suggested.
Ning Shu blinked, feeling that the conversation had taken a very strange turn.
She asked in surprise, “You want to live on this deserted island with me?”
“Yes.”
“Live together like husband and wife?” Ning Shu asked, raising an eyebrow.
Zeus nodded. “If you are willing, we can live like that. I’m willing. I’m tired of the life on Olympus.
“A huge group of people is constantly eyeing my throne as the King of the Gods. It’s exhausting. It wouldn’t be bad to live together on this uninhabited island,” Zeus said.
He looked at Ning Shu with his golden-flecked eyes, appearing as though they were full of hidden affection.
Ning Shu: (→_→)
Zeus had to be kidding her. Just a moment ago, they were trying to kill each other. They had wanted to tear each other limb from limb, yet now he wanted to live as a couple on this island?
The change in tone was too fast, just like a tornado.
Zeus likely thought this was some kind of romantic encounter and wanted to stabilize her for the time being. He could play husband to a beauty until he escaped, and then he would surely come back for revenge.
Ning Shu: …
Did he think he was some kind of prize? Like everyone loved him and flowers bloomed just for him? Did he think he could just do whatever he wanted?
“Is your brain broken?” Ning Shu asked, looking at Zeus in disbelief.
To submit to one’s enemy—only someone with a diseased mind would do that.
She wasn’t about to wait for Zeus to lead an army back here, only for her to ask him miserably why he was treating her like this.
Ning Shu quickly shook her head to clear away the clichéd, melodramatic storyline.
