Chapter 3559: Medusa (25)

Chapter 3559: Medusa (25)

The massive power generated by the four mutually repelling forces surprisingly did not kill Athena, though she began bleeding from her eyes, nose, and mouth.

Athena’s expression was one of absolute agony. Her once radiant eyes were now a solid, bloody red and her hair lashed about wildly in the wind.

She clutched her head in a state of excruciating pain. She didn’t even attempt to counter Ning Shu’s moves, which indicated that she was either hurting too much to act or perhaps no longer had the strength to fight back.

The massive storm winds buffeted Ning Shu’s skirt, but she stood firm and unmoving.

“What do you actually want? What is your goal?” Athena’s voice was a pained wheeze. Her blood-red eyes glared at Ning Shu. In the pitch-black darkness, the two bloody sockets looked exceptionally terrifying.

Ning Shu remained unmoved. She continued to condense her tiny needles of power. Having learned from her previous attempt, she was much faster and more skilled at it this time.

The needles shot toward the center of Athena’s brow at high speed. Having been burned once, Athena used her shield to block them. The needles exploded on impact, and the sheer force caused cracks to appear on the surface of the shield.

The arm Athena used to hold the shield went limp, the bone having been shattered by the shockwave.

Even though she was at a disadvantage, Athena kept her chin high. Her graceful, swan-like neck gave her an air of noble defiance.

“Who are you really, and what is your purpose?” Athena asked in a raspy voice, enduring the splitting pain in her head.

Ning Shu replied with a smile, “Actually, I don’t have some grand purpose. I just want to live. I want to live with dignity and according to my own choices, without being raped, without being cursed, and without having my head cut off.”

“Offending a god warrants punishment,” Athena said coldly.

To her, there was no right or wrong. It was only natural for the strong to punish the weak.

Medusa was a human, and a human woman at that. Since the gods didn’t even recognize the concept of harm against women, they naturally felt no sympathy for her. Instead, they forced the woman to bear the ultimate responsibility.

This was true even if Medusa had been forced.

Ning Shu condensed two more needles and sent them flying toward Athena. Athena’s arm was already injured, so she could only barely raise her shield to block one of them.

She had no way to stop the second needle. It pierced straight through the center of her brow. Athena’s expression went blank for a moment, and then her eyeballs suddenly exploded. The massive pressure and explosive force inside her skull caused her fragile eyes to burst first.

Athena let out a roar. She gripped her scepter and began to chant. It was an ancient divine language, sonorous and powerful, carrying a strange, trembling sensation.

The sky grew darker and darker as if it were about to collapse. It carried an aura of death so heavy it felt like one’s heart might explode.

Ning Shu frowned. Athena was preparing her ultimate move.

Ning Shu quickly set up a boundary for herself and began drawing talismans with flying fingers. She slapped a talisman onto Athena, but it only held for a single second before Athena broke through its power.

Ning Shu condensed several more needles. Some shot into Athena’s body while others pierced her brow.

Athena’s divine form suffered massive trauma. The enormous power exploding within her began to tear her physical structure apart.

Golden blood seeped from the corners of Athena’s mouth, and two streaks of blood-tears ran down her face.

“Medusa, you god-slayer, you will not meet a good end. I curse you with my very life! You shall become a hideous monster that no one will ever approach. You will be a lonely beast that feeds on filth. For all eternity, loneliness shall follow you, and anyone who comes near you shall die!” Athena’s voice echoed gloomily through the air, the sound terrifying and hollow.

A thick, black smoke of the curse wafted toward Ning Shu and enveloped her. Because the curse was so potent, her faith halo was unable to instantly break through it.

A cold, malicious aura surged into Ning Shu’s bones and began tearing at her body. It was agonizing!

Athena hated Ning Shu so much that she was willing to pay with her own life force to curse her.

While Ning Shu remained standing, Athena had paid the ultimate price.

Athena let out one last roar. The boundary Ning Shu had placed over Athens shattered, leaving the entire city vulnerable to Athena’s final strike.

“Ah, loathsome humans! Humans…”

Athena let out an unwilling roar of rage. Countless beams of divine power erupted from her body and shot toward Athens like comets crashing into the earth.

Athena wanted to destroy everything!

She was venting her hatred for Ning Shu upon all of humanity, including the people of Athens who had always worshipped and revered her.

This was a god. They possessed all the traits of humans, but amplified to the extreme—including resentment, spite, and malice!

With a grim expression, Ning Shu quickly set up a new boundary. She instantly drew out all the water from every well in Athens to form a water barrier in the sky, and she continuously reinforced it.

The massive beams of divine power struck the barrier like giant boulders. The barrier shook violently, and the ground itself trembled. The impact even woke a dormant volcano, which began spewing lava.

It was doomsday!

For the people of Athens, this was the end of the world.

Ning Shu pointed a finger, and the lava retreated. The raging volcanic activity calmed down.

As for the lava that had already sprayed out, Ning Shu fixed it in place so it could no longer flow.

Ning Shu gritted her teeth. Her focus was entirely on strengthening the boundary.

“This is a grudge between you and me. What does it have to do with Athens?”

The city-state was even named after her.

Athena could no longer stand. She lay suspended in mid-air. “Humans are ungrateful. Now that a god-slayer and blasphemer like you has appeared, more will surely follow.”

Athena’s sense of divine superiority was on full display even now.

Gods were not to be insulted or desecrated. Gods were supreme.

Ning Shu scoffed. She saw that Athena had stopped breathing. Even if Ning Shu hadn’t struck the final blow, Athena’s life had been extinguished as the price for her curse.

The disasters on the ground continued. Ning Shu kept reinforcing the boundary as the divine power continued to carry out Athena’s will to destroy the city.

Perhaps Athena had grown wary of humans, or perhaps she knew she was dying and refused to leave her city behind to bear someone else’s name.

Whatever the reason, she wanted the entire city of Athens to be buried with her.

In a sense, the city was Athena’s property. She had the obligation to protect it, but she also felt she had the right to dispose of it.

Athena’s body drifted in the air. The celestial energy dragon coiled around her and dragged her before Ning Shu.

Ning Shu touched the center of Athena’s brow and felt power still churning inside her head.

She then reached for Athena’s chest. The heart was still beating, though very faintly. If one didn’t sense it carefully, it was almost undetectable.
