Chapter 3555: Medusa (21)

Chapter 3555: Medusa (21)

Arachne made an outfit for Ning Shu. The top was a bandeau that exposed her arms and belly, while the bottom was a beautiful skirt decorated with intricate patterns.

Her chest looked full and her waist appeared slender.

Ning Shu put the clothes on and spun in a circle, feeling like an adorable little fairy.

Arachne had attached small, red, crystal-like stones to Ning Shu’s exposed navel. The combination of her slender waist and the sparkling crystals on her belly button was very pretty and quite beautiful.

Her hair, which had been turned into a frizzy explosion by the lightning strike, returned to its original state after being dampened by the rain. It fell like a waterfall in gentle waves.

Arachne said proudly, “It looks very good. Many merchants buy my cloth and handle it with extreme care, fearing they might damage it.”

Ning Shu nodded. “It is very pretty. Few people can match your craftsmanship. However, it is fine to say such things in front of me, but do not say them to everyone you meet. Even if you have talent, you must also have the wisdom to protect yourself.”

Arachne tilted her head and said indifferently, “I don’t say it to everyone. It is just that everyone says my skill rivals Athena’s, and that one day I will surpass her.”

“That is just people being polite and flattering you. You must never take it seriously. Learning is an endless journey,” Ning Shu said. Since Arachne had just made her a beautiful set of clothes, Ning Shu hoped she would not be turned into a spider by Athena.

Arachne was essentially being set up for a fall by all the excessive praise.

Everyone claimed Arachne’s weaving was the best, and amidst this sea of admiration, Arachne became arrogant and self-satisfied. Once word of this reached the ears of Athena and the other gods, Athena would certainly seek an explanation for why a mere human was speaking such bold words. She would surely be punished.

“Actually, I don’t quite understand what you mean,” Arachne asked Ning Shu.

Ning Shu replied, “What if I told you I knew a little bit of prophecy regarding your future?”

Arachne looked at Ning Shu in surprise and asked cautiously, “What will my future be like?”

A light flickered in Arachne’s brown eyes, mixed with a hint of trepidation. She felt a certain excitement at the prospect of knowing her own future.

“You will die! And while you are still in the prime of your youth, you will take a hemp rope and hang yourself!” Ning Shu said bluntly.

“Ah!” Arachne covered her mouth, her face full of shock and anger. “How could I possibly hang myself?”

“Because you said your weaving skills surpassed Athena’s,” Ning Shu explained. “Everyone praised your skills, and because of that, you will boastfully say those words. Athena will then turn you into a spider.”

“A spider?” Arachne looked confused. In her memory, there was no such creature as a ‘spider.’

Ning Shu was not surprised, as Arachne was destined to be the ancestor of all spiders.

Ning Shu had said all she could. She could not interfere with other matters. Medusa’s fate was already difficult enough to change, and she could not bear the burden of changing Arachne’s destiny as well.

Seeing Ning Shu speak with such poise and gravity, Arachne could not help but believe that what she said might be true. She asked, “Then what should I do?

“Is there any way to change this fate?” Arachne asked.

“Trouble comes from the mouth. Do not say your skills have surpassed Athena’s. Even if they have, do not say it aloud,” Ning Shu said.

“Alright, I should head out,” Ning Shu added with a smile.

She needed to deal with the two main parties involved, Poseidon and Athena. As for her future fate, she would take it one step at a time.

The fall of a god happened because of the fall of their godhead.

A god would not die even if their heart was cut out, but if their godhead was directly annihilated, they would either become an ordinary person or simply fade away and perish forever.

Ning Shu practiced her cultivation while she traveled. The miserable thing was that she seemed unable to find her way back. She had fled in a blind panic earlier, and now returning was proving difficult.

“Are you leaving? Are you a goddess?” Arachne asked.

“If you think I am a goddess, then I am a goddess,” Ning Shu said with a calm smile. She stepped onto the head of the giant dragon and slowly rose into the sky.

Many people stared at Ning Shu and knelt down.

In the blink of an eye, Ning Shu had left the village.

Ning Shu sat cross-legged on the giant dragon and began her cultivation. Her main priority was to control and become familiar with the power of lightning within her body, as she felt a faint, lingering pain in her internal core

When she had first absorbed the power of the sun’s fire, she had almost been roasted alive. Now that she had absorbed the power of lightning, Ning Shu felt as though her very bones had been turned to mush by the electricity.

The firebird stayed perched on Ning Shu’s shoulder, chirping away.

Ning Shu opened her eyes and turned to look at it. Under the sunlight, the firebird looked dazzling and charming, reflecting the luster of a gemstone.

The bird chirped at Ning Shu, but she did not know what was wrong with it.

The firebird lay weakly on her shoulder, its fiery red wings drooping.

What was going on?

Could it be hungry?

Ning Shu took out a fasting pill and placed it in front of the firebird. The bird pecked at the pill, but because its body was too small, it could not swallow it in one gulp. The firebird simply transformed into a massive bird, swallowed the pill in one bite, and then turned back into a tiny bird no larger than a palm.

It seemed it really had been hungry.

Ning Shu rubbed her chin as she looked at the fiery red bird. What would this thing eat in the future?

Given its massive true form, ordinary fruit certainly wouldn’t satisfy it.

Whatever, it could figure that out for itself.

“I’m out of these pills. If you want to fill your stomach in the future, find a way yourself.”

For such a large creature with such powerful strength to still need to be hand-fed, could it be any more useless?

She could certainly control the bird now, but what about after Medusa came back? If it got hungry, would it just swallow Medusa whole?

Small favors led to gratitude, but large ones led to resentment.

“Go find whatever food you want, but do not swallow humans and do not provoke the gods, do you understand?” Ning Shu told the firebird.

She had already helped it undergo a complete transformation, so it was time for it to be self-reliant. With such a massive size, Ning Shu had no desire to raise a giant baby.

The firebird flapped its wings. Sensing that Ning Shu was being serious, it chirped, though it was unclear if it actually understood.

Ning Shu resumed her cultivation while searching for Athena. What Ning Shu wanted to do most right now was destroy Athena’s godhead.

Poseidon had raped Medusa and Athena had cursed her. Furthermore, a heroic knight would eventually cut off Medusa’s head and mount it on Athena’s shield.

That hero would use Medusa’s head before offering it to Athena, likely to curry favor with the goddess.

Athena had nurtured many human heroes.

If Ning Shu encountered that hero, she would definitely cut off the knight’s head.

The problem Ning Shu faced now was that she was lost. The world was vast and sparsely populated, and there was not even anyone around to ask for directions.

She had rushed back in high spirits to seek revenge, only to realize she couldn’t find the way.

It was all a bit awkward.
