Chapter 3542: Medusa (8)
Poseidon spoke this way on purpose. He was deliberately inciting the humans’ fear of the gods and their loathing of Ning Shu.
Sitting on his golden chariot, Poseidon said to Ning Shu, “If you beg me, I can grant you a pardon.”
He felt he had found an interesting toy. He believed that the more stubborn she was now and the more she refused to bow her head, the more delightful it would be to see her break once she was helpless, cornered, and at the end of her rope.
It was the same feeling he got from conquering one powerful opponent after another.
“Look at that foolish look on your face, as if you actually think you can do anything to me. Even as the sea god, you’re just a guy waving a fork around, a complete idiot smugly full of himself.” Ning Shu rolled her eyes directly at him.
“You profane the gods time and time again. Have you considered the consequences? I have decided to cast you into the sea and let the sirens tear you into pieces.” Poseidon was a proud man with a violent temper.
A god’s pride would not allow him to bow to a human. Just because he had tolerated her before did not mean she could trample on divine dignity.
Ning Shu put her hands on her hips. “I’ll tear the sirens apart first.”
Athena looked at the arrogant Ning Shu with cold eyes, her scepter pointing at her. “I do not care with whom you made a deal or from where you obtained such power, but the majesty of the gods must not fall.”
The situation had reached a point of no return. It now appeared as though she had betrayed the gods, rather than being abandoned by them.
“What majesty? It is nothing but tyranny, acting as a despot over the heads of humanity. One day, humans will take up arms and slay the gods.” Since they had already dropped all pretenses, Ning Shu had no intention of speaking politely.
The words ‘slay the gods’ swirled over the entire city of Athens. Human faith came with a price; there had to be benefits. For example, Athena taught humans skills like weaving, painting, sculpting, pottery, and animal husbandry.
That was why humans worshiped her. However, when humans began to want more than the gods could give, and when human power eventually surpassed that of the gods, they would take up arms to slay them.
The normally indifferent Athena was struck with fury upon hearing the words ‘slay the gods.’ Her eyebrows shot up in a stern line, her divine majesty becoming heavy as dark clouds gathered and the sky changed color.
The confused onlookers, hearing the words ‘slay the gods,’ knelt down in a panic, feeling helpless and terrified.
To slay a god was the ultimate act of sacrilege.
The entire sky darkened as if it were pressing down on them, making people feel incredibly oppressed and fearful. They trembled as they begged for the gods’ forgiveness.
“Athena, your priestess must have been contaminated by some evil power to say such things and challenge the gods,” Poseidon said coldly. Since the status of gods in the hearts of humans was at stake, Poseidon also became serious. Standing on his golden chariot, he looked at Ning Shu with bloodshot eyes that appeared incredibly brutal.
Poseidon held his trident, commanding the wind and rain. At this moment, he was enraged. Monsters would appear from the surging depths of the sea. With a wave of his trident, Poseidon could cause tsunamis and earthquakes, raising monstrous waves that could split the heavens and earth, shake the mountains and rivers, and make the ground tremble.
The entire city of Athens felt like it was on the verge of collapse. The air was filled with the sound of howling waves crashing against the continent, and the ground shuddered.
Under the might of heaven and earth, humans were like tiny ants with no power to resist, able only to shiver in fear.
Some people, unable to bear the terror of the impending disaster, suddenly shouted, “Burn the demoness! Burn the demoness!”
As soon as one person shouted it, others began to clamor. The sound of thousands of people screaming at the top of their lungs pierced the sky, even drowning out the roar of the distant sea.
Ning Shu was now an enemy to the entire world. She faced not only the gods with their immense power but also the humans who were driven by that power.
She was like a broken boat in a vast ocean. Under such overwhelming force, a single wave would be enough to destroy her.
Her current actions were like a mantis trying to stop a chariot or a mayfly trying to shake a giant tree.
Ning Shu looked at the roaring ocean in the distance and smiled faintly. This was the perfect time to test how her ordinance performed in this world.
She wanted to see how the power of the ocean driven by a trident compared to her ordinance of water.
Facing such an onslaught, Ning Shu didn’t even blink. The only ones who truly threatened her were the gods with their great power, not the humans who were merely screaming to burn her.
Ning Shu glanced at Poseidon, who had an expression that seemed to say, ‘Admire me? Are you afraid yet?’
She smiled serenely. Her delicate features appeared so brilliant that even the pitch-black clouds could not suppress her radiance. She practically lit up the sky.
Poseidon was somewhat awestruck by this woman’s beauty and her fierce temperament.
Conquering such a woman would take time and effort, but the sense of achievement would be extraordinary.
Ning Shu pointed a finger toward the roaring sea, her mind moving as one with her will.
This single movement was exceptionally beautiful. Clad only in a thin veil, she nonetheless exuded an unshakable power.
Both Poseidon and Athena were somewhat surprised by her action.
Athena gripped her scepter tightly. Her priestess must have been controlled or seduced by some evil force.
Her words were treasonous. Gods were supreme, and anyone who committed sacrilege had to pay with their life. If one person committed it, they paid with their life. If a nation committed it, they paid with the fate of the entire country. They would suffer curses and punishment.
Athena decided she would punish this priestess.
However, as Ning Shu used her ordinance, the roaring sea fell still. It became as calm as a mirror, without a single ripple.
Poseidon was stunned. What was going on?
He hurriedly waved his trident, trying to command the ocean. The sea immediately began to roar again, surging onto the shore and flooding several areas.
Ning Shu pointed her finger, and the seawater that had rushed onto the land retreated. The ocean returned to its state of stillness.
Poseidon’s jaw nearly dropped. This was unprecedented. He was the sea god. If he couldn’t command the power of the ocean, what kind of sea god was he?
He held his trident high, waving it frantically. The sea became terrifying, with massive waves ten thousand feet high. Lightning flashed over the surface, and hurricanes swirled as if they intended to destroy and submerge the entire world.
The people on land knelt and shivered, begging for the gods’ mercy.
Ning Shu pointed her finger again. The terrifying hurricanes and waves slowly ground to a halt, and the ocean returned to its peaceful state.
While she was at it, Ning Shu placed a barrier over the surface of the sea.
Poseidon’s expression was hideous to behold. His eyes were crimson with rage as he frantically waved his trident over and over.
Yet the sea remained perfectly calm. No matter how he flourished his trident, it was useless. He had lost his ability to control the great ocean.
Poseidon let out a roar, refusing to give up as he continued to wave his trident, but the sea gave him no response at all. He was so angry he nearly threw his trident away.
