Chapter 3164: It’s Finally Over!
They were strictly prohibited from leaving things in a plane that didn’t fit with the plane’s development, especially if those things were advanced beyond that world’s technological development.
“You two will stay in this world a bit longer. Report any anomalies,” the fragrant man instructed Ning Shu and Wen Xing.
Both replied in unison, “Understood.”
“Keep the monocles and weapons for now. Return them through your system once the task is complete,” he added before he and the rest of the group disappeared.
Once they were gone, Wen Xing collapsed onto the roadside. He fanned himself with his hand while saying, “It’s finally over!”
Ning Shu also sat down. She took out a water bottle and drank from it. She was exhausted to the point that she couldn’t even lift her arms anymore.
To be honest, Ning Shu felt a bit deflated. This experience had left her with a growing sense of her own insignificance.
She had wanted to progress step by step, but was force-fed so much so quickly that her inner resolve had been shaken.
Well, to hell with it all.
She would be a very amazing person one day too!She rolled her eyes while drinking water.
“I’m heading back to rest. I’m seriously tired,” Wen Xing announced while he got to his feet.
“Alright. Let’s keep in touch if anything comes up,” Ning Shu replied.
She hopped back onto her motorcycle and rode home. After locking the door behind her, she took a long shower and collapsed into bed, sleeping like a rock.
When she finally woke up, her entire body ached so badly it felt ridiculous.
This task had been extremely physically demanding. She’d had to climb in and out of sewers and run up and down buildings.
Ning Shu tried to stand but found her legs trembling.
She gave up and fell back onto the bed, then started cultivating.
The muscle pain would last a while.
Ning Shu took the monocle that the fragrant man had given her and put it on in order to scan the city for any remaining monsters. If there were any that were missed, she had to destroy them as soon as possible.
She saw no red dots.
After lying in bed for half the day, she got up to make herself something to eat.
While moving slowly and deliberately, she felt the tension from the past days finally start to melt away. It was time for her to relax now.
Ning Shu took out some bones from the fridge and sniffed them to make sure they hadn’t spoiled. They seemed and smelled fine, so she put them in a pot to simmer until they became broth.
She made a fresh and fragrant broth. The rich, savory aroma filled the air as she added some noodles and some bok choy.
The result was a simple but delicious bowl of bok choy noodles.
As she savored the meal, she picked up the TV remote to check the news.
However, the screen was just static—no signal.
Ning Shu decided to call the original host’s parents.
On the other end of the line, the original host’s parents asked her to send some money. They said they were running low on funds.
Ning Shu agreed. It must not have been easy for them to raise their child into a college graduate in a remote village.
She continued eating. This was seriously tasty! It felt like such a blessing to be able to enjoy a peaceful meal after such chaos.
She currently felt unprecedented contentment.
The city’s armed forces were still sweeping through, but they found no more monsters.
The news soon reported that the city was safe again and that all sectors could resume normal operations.
Still, people were skeptical. Anyhow, the next day, Ning Shu received a call from her company, asking her to return to work.
While the city had been declared safe, it remained desolate.
Many had fled, and a lot had also died in the attacks.
It would take time for things to return to their previous vibrancy.
When Ning Shu arrived at the office, only a handful of people were there, scattered across the floor.
Some of the company’s employees had died.
The company showed some compassion and handed out bonuses to the employees who showed up, perhaps to shake off the bad luck.
As for those who had died? That wasn’t the company’s responsibility.
It was simply an unavoidable disaster.
