Chapter 1261: FINALLY ALONE
LUO YAN froze for a moment at the question. But he quickly recovered and answered, "My brothers know, and so does Brother Ze, along with our close friends."
Wu Meixiu understood immediately what that meant. It meant that his father and the rest of his immediate family did not know. She could understand that. It was probably easier to share something like this with people closer to your own age than with a parent.
"Are you worried your father might not approve of you and Xiao Yun?" she asked with concern. "If you are, I could talk to him if it would help."
"Thank you for the offer, Grandma Wu, but I think we just need more time before we tell my dad about us," Luo Yan said with a helpless smile. "My dad is a bit overprotective of me. So no matter who I end up with, he probably would not be happy about it at first."
Especially with Shen Ji Yun. Not only was he a man, but he was also someone his father treated like family. So, to find out that their relationship had shifted into something romantic would likely make him feel confused, even betrayed. But he kept these thoughts to himself, not wanting to burden Grandma unnecessarily.
Hearing that, Wu Meixiu suddenly realized that the son of the Luo family who fell into a coma must likely be Luo Yan. A parent would naturally become overprotective of a child who had gone through such a traumatic event. But if Luo Yan was the one who had been unconscious for years, that would mean he had missed a significant part of his early teenage years. She did not know exactly how long he had been in that state, but would that not leave him emotionally inexperienced, almost like a child? Would he truly be ready for something as complex as a romantic relationship, let alone one with someone of the same sex?
She turned to Shen Ji Yun and gave her grandson a brief look of concern. Had he taken advantage of Luo Yan's lack of experience? But she quickly dismissed the thought. Shen Ji Yun would never do something like that. How could he, when he himself had little experience not just with romance, but with understanding his own emotions and others as well? Besides, from what she had seen during lunch, it seemed like Luo Yan was the one more in charge of their relationship. Also, if Luo Yan was about to study at T University, that meant he was very intelligent. Someone with a child's mentality could not do that.
With that settled in her mind, she felt relieved. At least she would not have to have a serious talk with her grandson about how being with Luo Yan might be considered criminal.
Wu Meixiu was not sure if Luo Yan's father would come to the same conclusion, though. She reached for Luo Yan's hand and gave it a gentle pat.
"But do call me if things do not go the way you hope with your father. Though hopefully it won't come to that," she said. "I'll do what I can to help him see reason."
Although she did not have much success doing that with her own husband, she felt she might have better luck convincing Luo Yan's father. He would probably at least listen to the opinion of a respected elder.
Wu Meixiu stayed for another hour, enjoying light conversation and a second cup of tea with Shen Ji Yun and Luo Yan. When the time felt right, she politely said her goodbyes and left, feeling content with how this afternoon had turned out.
***
When evening came, they finished dinner, and Shen Ji Yun took a shower first. Afterward, he prepared a bath for Luo Yan. While Luo Yan was bathing, Shen Ji Yun sat at his desk and began working on some code he needed to finish.
It hadn't even been a minute since he sat down when his fingers froze above the keyboard. He stared blankly at his screen, unable to focus. It's not like his mind was completely blank. It was filled with vivid images of Luo Yan in the bath. He pictured steam rising around him, pale skin glistening with water, and soft bubbles clinging to his shoulders and chest. The thought of Luo Yan running wet fingers through his hair or sinking deeper into the warm water made Shen Ji Yun's breath catch.
He was completely distracted, and no line of code was going to get written like this when his mind was filled with nothing but naked Luo Yans.
Shen Ji Yun closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind completely. But it was difficult when he could picture Luo Yan so clearly. Maybe it was because the other was in his bathroom, or because he was the one who had prepared the bath and knew every product that had been used. But deep down, he knew it all came back to Luo Yan.
How could it not come back to Luo Yan when he was the only one occupying Shen Ji Yun's thoughts every waking hour and the last thing on his mind before he fell asleep at night? He was even the star of his less than innocent dreams.
As he was trying to calm himself, he heard the bathroom door open. He took a deep breath before turning in his chair. The sight of Luo Yan made his breath catch in his throat.
Luo Yan stood in the doorway wearing nothing but an oversized shirt that hung loosely on his frame, the hem brushing mid-thigh. The soft cotton draped over his slender shoulders and followed the gentle lines of his body in a way that made it unclear whether he wore anything underneath. Damp hair clung to his temples, and a faint steam still clung to his skin from the bath.
Shen Ji Yun's gaze lingered, completely drawn in by the sight before him. He noticed how the shirt dipped at the collar and caught the faint scent of soap and warmth drifting from Luo Yan's skin. For a heartbeat, the world narrowed to just the two of them, and Shen Ji Yun forgot how to breathe.
