Chapter 326 - Raiding the Logistics Department

Chapter 326: Raiding the Logistics Department

Lin Jin sounded apathetic but Lu Yunhe and Lu Xiaoyun felt chills run down their spines.

The blood contract insect was so mysterious that even someone like Lu Yunhe failed to notice it. If Lin Jin hadn’t seen through the deception and broken the spell, Lu Ba would have been hijacked without them knowing.

Lu Yunhe was a loyal friend and especially so when it came to Lin Jin.

“Would they have the audacity to take revenge?” Lu Yunhe flared up in anger. “I say bring it on! If they do, I won’t let them off this time!”

Lin Jin smiled and said nothing.

He just happened to need help with something. As Lu Yunhe was well-informed within the city, Lin Jin figured he was the right man to answer his questions.

He asked Lu Yunhe if he knew of a bigger place for them to stay.

This house was too tiny for them to live in now.

However, Lin Jin didn’t know where to begin looking for real estate so it was better to entrust it to a friend. Maybe they could keep an eye out for suitable places for him.

Discussing this with Zuo Wentang would have been more appropriate but unfortunately, it slipped Lin Jin’s mind. Now that he recalled the matter while Lu Yunhe was here, Lin Jin simply brought it up.

“I see.” Lu Yunhe looked around. In the beginning, the place was certainly more than enough for Lin Jin alone, but now that the number of residents increased, it was getting noticeably cramped.

“Don’t worry, Brother Lin. Leave this to me.” Although Lu Yunhe hadn’t gotten any ideas yet, he was the loyal type of friend who would commit to the idea before he even had a solution.

“I’m not in a hurry. Just help me keep a lookout.” Lin Jin understood Lu Yunhe’s character well.

Everything here was settled. Zombie Cthulhu would stay at home to recuperate and Lu Yunhe’s Lu Ba stopped shedding. For now, the lion just needed several days of rest to recuperate.

As for the demonic appraiser, Lin Jin actually didn’t tell Lu Yunhe and Lu Xiaoyun the truth.

That was because, in all honesty, it was much more troublesome.

As an official beast appraiser and chief of Maple City’s Beast Appraisal Association, Lin Jin was able to obtain more information than others.

The confidential letters sent from headquarters to all branches also included information about these Demonic Appraisal associations.

Simply put, these Demonic Appraisal Associations also consisted of beast appraisers, but what set them apart from regular appraisers was how their intentions were mostly wicked, and their research practices were grossly unethical.

Their actions were no doubt unscrupulous and Lu Yunhe’s encounter was a good example of that. That demonic appraiser probably had planned in advance to cast sorcery over Lu Ba, and thanks to his skill, no one noticed his move.

If they hadn’t met Lin Jin, the pet beast would have been a goner.

Now, it all depended on the castor. If the man decided to swallow his anger and go into hiding, Lin Jin would never be able to find him. But if he intended to seek revenge and show up, Lin Jin was interested in meeting him. He never held back, nor would he ever do hold back when dealing with such immoral beast appraisers.

However, it was likely that the members of the Demonic Appraisal Association weren’t pushovers. Rather than challenging their enemies head-on, their go-to strategy involved sneak attacks with dark magic, rendering precautions ineffective. Even an expert like Lu Yunhe would find them difficult to handle if he were to come across any member of their association.

Lin Jin decided to add this problem to his priority list. He patted Lu Ba’s almost bald head and left one of the needles he crafted inside the creature’s body.

With this, if Lu Ba ever encounters similar sorcery, Lin Jin would be notified immediately.

Lu Yunhe bid farewell and Lin Jin followed Lu Xiaoyun back to the association to begin another hectic day.

In the afternoon, Jia Qian arrived with a report.

After discreetly investigating the logistics department, she verified that Dong He’s claims were true.

In her exact words, “Dong He isn’t exactly decent but Zhang Youdu is the worst.”While she only produced a tiny portion of the inventory list, the evidence was enough to make Lin Jin frown.

The reason was simple. Ever since Zhang Youdu took office, he had been reckless and unbridled. Not only did he embezzle money, but he also misappropriated goods.

Just as Jia Qian had described, the man posed a bigger problem than Dong He.

Lin Jin didn’t suspect Jia Qian’s investigation at all since the evidence couldn’t have been clearer. Moreover, judging by her character, Jia Qian would never forge or falsify documentation.

“Let’s go!” Lin Jin abruptly got up from his seat. Knowing that Lin Jin intended to take Zhang Youdu by surprise, Jia Qian immediately brought along the evidence she gathered to follow after Lin Jin.

Without calling for the association’s rules enforcement team, Lin Jin and Jia Qian arrived at the logistics department.

This sudden raid obviously threw the department in a frenzy.

Upon noticing Lin Jin’s arrival, one of the staff members got up and opened his mouth. He intended to inform his friends of the chief’s unexpected visit.

It was an early warning for them to hide their tracks.

But why on earth would Lin Jin allow him to do that?

A silver needle darted over, piercing the acupoint of that man’s throat.

That person could no longer speak. He even felt his body go numb, and before he even realized it, he was paralyzed.

Lin Jin ignored the man, bypassing him to enter the logistics department. During this time, there were many people around.

There were people working and also apprentices here to collect items. More than ten people were present in the main hall.

Lin Jin’s unannounced arrival startled everyone.

“Ch-Chief Lin, why are you here?” the department’s assistant manager in charge was shocked. He quickly hurried over, visibly anxious.

At that moment, their manager, Zhang Youdu, was probably taking inventory of the newly received goods in the warehouse. No doubt, he was tampering with the items and was selecting the good stuff to be taken away.

It had now become a routine.

This assistant manager just happened to be in cahoots with Zhang Youdu so he was trying to monitor the activity in the main hall.

Though, he didn’t expect Chief Lin to show up unannounced.

Beads of cold sweat began forming on his forehead.

Those who came to collect the items were also stunned. Some had no idea what was going on while some who had a tiny inkling watched in with great interest.

“Where is Manager Zhang?” Lin Jin walked directly to the back room without stopping.

This frightened the assistant manager out of his wits. He wanted to stop them but was scared witless as well, so he could only follow after them. However, Lin Jin was walking too fast and before he could even speak, Lin Jin had arrived at the door to the back room, which he proceeded to push on.

The door was locked.

But how could that ever stop Lin Jin?

With a little more strength, the door’s panel broke and the wooden bolt snapped into two, falling to the ground. As this happened, Lin Jin had already pushed the door open and entered.

“It’s over!” The assistant manager was shuddering. Even if he managed to inform Lin Jin’s arrival, Manager Zhang wouldn’t have time to remedy the situation.

Even if he did have time, so what?

Chief Lin was clearly here to address the logistics department and judging by how he was acting, he must be onto something. While the warehouse seemed to be flawlessly managed, it wouldn’t stand up to deeper investigation, which would surely lead to further trouble.

Leaving aside what was going on through the assistant manager’s mind, Lin Jin had now strode over to the warehouse’s door.

During this time, Zhang Youdu and several other staff were making their way through the inventory. Placed in a corner was one tiny cart ready to carry the items the manager was about to pilfer.

His method was simple. He would just substitute the items with those of lesser quality.
