There was a large, steel wok on top of the rack.

The wok was steaming hot. It was clearly being used for cooking.

The fire beneath the wok crackled loudly. He La retrieved some fire wood from a pile by the side and added it to the fire pit.

Fang Xinxin scanned their surroundings. Two long wooden planks were embedded into the wall. Various tableware made from clay were neatly arranged on it.

Aside from those, various animal skins were hung up on the wall. There were also decorative pieces made from fish bones and beads.

A room was connected to the living room. In it, there was a large wooden bed and a simple table. Various clay bottles were placed on the table.

Two layers of animal hide were arranged on top of the wooden bed as a mattress. A wooden mat was layered above it.

After Bai Qinghao and Fang Xinxin scanned the place, He La spoke enthusiastically to Bai Qinghao. “In the future, you stay here.”

What did she mean by that… Bai Qinghao did not plan on staying here long term.

Before he could respond, He La headed to the living room. She retrieved two clay bowls from the shelves and filled the bowls with piping hot fish soup. She handed them to Bai Qinghao. “You eat.”

Bai Qinghao felt that something was amiss. He did not receive it. “This is your home?”

“Yes.” He La had an almond shaped face. She stood upright as though to show off her muscular figure and smiled at him. “Do you like it?”

Bai Qinghao wasn’t sure if she was asking about her apartment or herself. Nonetheless, he responded coldly. “No.”

He La was unfazed by his rejection. Her skin tone was honey colored from the frequent exposure to the sun. She smiled, revealing her white teeth. “I am the prettiest here.”

Fang Xinxin understood that she was the most attractive girl in this village. “May I ask if you are African? Or perhaps, are you Indian?”

He La shook her head. “This is Tjavualji. The volunteers say we don’t belong to any country.”

After the conversation, Bai Qinghao and Fang Xinxin vaguely understood that this was an unknown island in the Pacific Ocean. It was separated from and forgotten by most of modern society.

They used to have a population of five hundred people. However, around thirty years ago, as the hygiene on this island was poor, a serious epidemic occurred. More than four hundred people died and only forty of them were left.

Since then, they had gradually developed and there were now around one hundred people on this island.

There weren’t any industries on this island. The inhabitants relied on hunting and fishing to survive. Some of the inhabitants also had the skills to make simple pottery.

Originally, all the clothes they wore were made from animal hide. Around three years ago, soldiers from a nearby country found them by accident. After understanding that they did not belong to any country, several countries worked together to send volunteers over and to donate some items to them.

Their modern clothes and some of their food reserves came from those volunteers.

The volunteers had stayed for a period of time to learn their language, and to teach them a little English. However, most of the people here could not learn it well. Moreover, they were unwilling to learn.

Even the ones who had managed to do so, forgot everything they learned due to the lack of practice.

He La and Yi Mo were naturally talented and had managed to fare a little better.

In the past three years, the volunteers had visited the place twice. On their second visit, they brought some rice as well as seeds to grow beans, corn, oat and many other types of food.

It was a pity that the people here did not manage to grow most of them successfully. Even the ones they did, were not to their taste.

Right now, the only food they were still growing were beans, corn and oat..
