Chapter 319: Lin Suyin Tries to Give Feng Tianlan a Beautifying Pill
The brocade box immediately reminded Luo Yunzhu of Tu Xiupei. When Tu Xiupei had just returned, the whole affair she’d instigated with the Marrow Cleansing Pill had ultimately caused the loss of many lives. Luo Yunzhu’s instincts immediately sped to the highest alert possible. She threw herself in front of Feng Tianlan and replied on her behalf, “Thank you, Miss Lin, but that is not something our Tianlan needs. We do not mind her looks at all.”
Luo Yunzhu was terrified at the thought of someone drugging the pill. Her Tianlan had made too many enemies.
“Boss is not ugly! You should watch what you say.” Zhang Tiancheng chimed in while nudging Luo Yunzhu’s shoulder. To him, that scar was very cool. It made Boss even more imposing—she was certainly far from ugly.
Feng Tianlan turned down Lin Suyin’s goodwill politely, “I appreciate your kindness, Miss Lin. I really do.”
“This…but…” Lin Suyin looked up and took a closer look at the scar on Feng Tianlan’s face. To her, the whole situation was incomprehensible. Did there exist such a thing as a woman who wasn’t bothered by her looks at all?
Feng Tianlan took out a blue brocade box from her storage and passed it to Lin Suyin. “Thank you for your kindness, Miss Lin. However, this scar is very meaningful to me.”
Women were naturally more aggressive toward women whom they consider to be more beautiful than them. The scar on Tianlan’s face had fended off a lot of trouble.
Lin Suyin looked at the brocade boxes they’d both put out and stored hers with a slight smile. She said, “I was the frivolous one. I meant no offense, Miss Feng.” After she said that, she gave them a slight nod and left.
“Did she just…?” Luo Yunzhu stared at Lin Suyin’s back, disappearing into the distance. “So she’s giving her love rival a Beautifying Pill?”
Feng Tianlan could not hold in her chuckle. She took back the brocade box and answered, “She looks kind, at least for now.”
However, she had seen too many hypocrites in her lifetime. In light of Lin Suyin’s sudden display of goodwill, Feng Tianlan did not feel grateful. Instead, she kept her distance and treated her politely yet coldly. They were not going to be friends.
“You can’t say that for sure. What if Lin Suyin is just like Tu Xiupei? Also, don’t give her your affirmation just like that. She might be even stronger than Tu Xiupei.” Luo Yunzhu puffed up her cheeks when she saw Feng Tianlan smile. “Don’t be so skeptical. My instincts rarely fail me.”
She also felt that Lin Suyin was quite safe and unassuming, but one could never tell what was in anyone else’s heart. Would she lose track of her original self when chasing after the Wargod?
“So long as we keep our distance, none of it will be any of our business,” Feng Tianlan answered mildly. Her policy was this: If they left her alone, she would steer clear of them too. However, if they insisted on angering her, she would show zero mercy!
…
After journeying for almost two weeks, they finally arrived at the Misty Forest. One mile from the forest, everyone sat down for a rest. The teacher who’d come with them reminded them once again of safety procedures and pointed out the dangerous areas to avoid. The value of their lives far outweighed any spiritual herb that might come their way.
The sun bore down in great fury, and the forest was shrouded in thick mist. They could see nothing but a hidden path and trees. A misty forest indeed! The place was true to its name.
The mist reminded Feng Tianlan of her recurring dream. She thought of the man standing in the blood mist. There was no bawling, no screams of agony. However, the sadness overflowing from him was suffocating.
“What’s wrong?” Si Mobai asked worriedly. Feng Tianlan took a step back and almost fell. He instantly reached out for her and closed his arms around her slender waist.
Feng Tianlan felt a sharp, panging pain in her chest. It was smothering. “I’m okay. It’s just that, with the mist this heavy, it would be perilous if demonic beasts attacked us.”
Twice when she’d had the dream, it had taken place in a forest. The choking sensation of heartache solidified her attitude of resistance toward the woods. Subconsciously, she believed that so long as they distanced themselves, they could prevent the tragedy from happening.
