Chapter 741: Two Sweet Fragrances
"Your mother?" Eve is shocked to hear Lucien mention her scent alongside the supposed scent of their sister.
She also hadn’t expected Lucien’s mysterious mother to be in Belor, as Michael had claimed, not after everything they had been through.
"Are you sure?" Eve asks.
Lucien can’t clearly recall the appearance of his mother, as he was very young when they were separated.
But his body instinctively recognizes that fragrance. "I have no doubts, this is her scent, but..."
Eve understands well why Lucien seems hesitant and concerned, after all, their lives have been filled with lies and manipulations so far. "It’s okay, we’ll figure out what’s happening together."
Now it’s Lucien’s turn to be grateful for having Eve by his side at such a moment. Having Lust and Pride around is also very comforting, but both Sins are silent, as confused as the siblings.
Lucien strengthens his resolve and flies towards the top of the tower. The scents that caught his attention actually come from the penultimate floor, while the highest part of the tower is an open terrace.
The tower widens at that part, creating a large area with lateral glass walls that allow Lucien and Eve to see the external areas of what seems to be a type of mansion inside the tower.
The architecture in this part of the tower is even more incredible and luxurious, and the most surprising part is that everything inside appears perfectly untouched.𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"It’s as if the war never reached here..." Eve thinks aloud.
Lucien slowly flies towards the glass, but then he hears Lust exclaim in his mind. "Wait!!!"
He stops and notices a thin, shining yellow layer in front of the glass. Now that he’s using his vision skill, he can see this yellow layer around the entire section of the tower.
"A barrier?" He asks.
Lust materializes her body next to them and explains, "It’s a cosmic realm-level restrictive barrier."
"You better not approach it without knowing who set up such a barrier," Pride comments, not hiding her concern.
Before Lucien asks the Sins to explain more about the barrier, Lust does so. "This type of barrier only allows specific things and people to pass through it..."
"And anything not on the list of who made the barrier will be repelled with all the power contained in it," Pride explains.
Eve looks thoughtful and concerned. "So if we’re not allowed to enter, it’s like taking an attack from a Cosmic Realm enemy?"
"Exactly," Pride responds. "At the least, your bodies would be split in half instantly."
"But what about you?" Eve quickly asks. "You’re immortal, so-"
"Such a barrier will use an attack that is most effective against us," Pride quickly speaks.
"Probably something that drains all our energy, rendering us useless for a while... or worse," Lust adds.
Eve understands that even the Sins fear the power of that barrier, but Lucien continues to look at it thoughtfully.
"Why would she leave it here if not for me to find?" He muses aloud while letting go of Eve and approaching the barrier alone.
"Wait, Lucien!" Lust fears something bad might happen to him. "It could really kill you-"
Lucien focuses all his energies, especially his life mana, to protect his body; if the worst happens, he’s confident he can escape death and use the help of Lust, Eve, and also Pride to recover.
Then he reaches his hand towards the barrier without hesitation...
"You fool!!" Pride also tries to stop him, but he acts quickly and touches the barrier.
"???" Everyone watches curiously and apprehensively.
But as Lucien predicted, he passes through the yellow barrier without suffering any harm.
The girls sigh in relief as he smiles confidently at them. "See? It had to be for us, now come on."
Lust crosses the barrier, but Pride still tries to hold back Eve, who grabs Lucien’s hand and also safely crosses the barrier.
"She knew we would be together..." Eve is very curious about Lucien’s mother and the possible connection she has with her missing sister.
"I guess so," Lucien also thinks that.
Now inside the area protected by the barrier, Lucien opens one of the large glass windows and enters the tower.
Looking inside, the place seems even more orderly, as if everything is perfect. There are all kinds of furniture that would be found in a normal house, but no personal items are in sight.
"Lucien," Eve looks at him with a concerned expression. "Which direction?"
He can now feel those scents even more clearly and leads Eve towards one of the rooms. "This way."
They walk cautiously, observing anything suspicious, as do the Sins.
But there seem to be no traps, and they simply enter one of the rooms.
The place is spacious, with a luxurious bed, an impressive wardrobe, and other furniture, but what catches the siblings’ attention is a desk holding nothing but two envelopes.
The envelopes lie side by side, both white and adorned with beautiful ties of different colors; one with a pink tie and the other with a red one.
"Is this it?" Eve asks.
Lucien nods. "The one with the pink tie has your scent, and the red..."
Eve is eager to pick up the envelope and see what’s inside, which is likely to be a letter.
But she notices Lucien seems hesitant again and tightly holds his hand. "We need answers, even if they might not please us."
Lucien indeed fears what might be in that envelope, perhaps more manipulations from his mother or an even more painful truth.
But he needs to know what it is, so he walks towards the desk with Eve, and each picks up an envelope.
While Eve opens her envelope and finds a letter as expected, Lucien first enjoys the concentrated perfume on the red ribbon.
This wonderful fragrance surpasses any of his wives, no matter how fragrant they are, and awakens the best memories of his childhood.
After savoring the scent for a few seconds, Lucien notices Eve immersed in the words of her letter, so he leaves the room and moves to the window to open his envelope.
He finds a letter inside his envelope, but instead of opening it quickly, he gently runs his fingers over the surface of the paper.
Despite seeming unlikely, he tries to feel any trace of his mother’s touch on the paper.
He feels closer to reuniting with her, but the contents of the letter might say the exact opposite.
The Lucien of a year ago would be going crazy right now; that guy was solely focused on finding his mother, and nothing was more important than that.
But the current Lucien has many important people in his life, many responsibilities, and he cannot let himself be shaken, not even by his mother.
So, he calms himself and lets out a long sigh while looking at the still-closed letter.
Lust can feel and understand all of Lucien’s emotions, which makes her very happy. "I’m proud of you."
"Thank you, my love," Lucien thanks her, not just for the compliment, but for always being by his side.
Now calm, Lucien opens the letter and sees text written in the demonic language, with beautiful handwriting.
The first words in the letter stir emotions in Lucien, causing him to smile instinctively.
"Dear son, I miss you so much..."
