Chapter 4839: Impending Death
The powerful pressure and surging air currents emanating from both combatants formed a protective shield, deflecting each other’s sword qi and spear qi. The two were locked in a fierce exchange, their long swords and spears clashing, the distance between them a mere three steps. Because of this proximity, the Great Emperor Northern Flame could distinctly feel the immense pressure radiating from Feng Jiu.
If he hadn’t been injured, perhaps he could have held his ground, but now, a prolonged battle would undoubtedly lead to his defeat! This thought sparked anxiety within him, though he maintained a composed expression, his mind racing to devise a counter-strategy.
Feng Jiu, however, offered him no opportunity or time. His long spear successfully parried her long sword, preventing it from piercing deeper. Both weapons were extraordinary, and the force bursting from their clash was incredibly fierce. Observing the beads of sweat forming on the Great Emperor Northern Flame’s forehead, Feng Jiu’s eyes flashed, and the corners of her lips curled into a subtle, almost mocking smile. “I didn’t expect the mighty Great Emperor Northern Flame to be so weak!”
As her taunting words hung in the air, she twisted the hand gripping the Blue Edge sword. The long sword slid across his spear, then sharply pivoted, its tip deftly avoiding his weapon and thrusting towards his throat with blinding speed.
A chilling killing intent rushed directly at him, startling the Great Emperor Northern Flame. He swiftly moved his long spear to block, but in the next instant, the sword that had been aimed at his throat was deflected just enough to slash diagonally into his shoulder.
“Ssshh! Ah!”
The sharp blade pierced his shoulder, causing a searing, fiery pain that shot straight through him, down to his very bones. He involuntarily trembled, his grip on the long spear wavering. His momentary lapse in reaction gave Feng Jiu another crucial opportunity to strike.
“Whoosh!”
The long sword was yanked from his shoulder and then swung towards his arm with spectral speed, making it almost impossible to react. As her long sword exited the Great Emperor Northern Flame’s shoulder, it brought with it a stream of blood. When the blade descended again, a piece of flesh flew off with the sword, and in an instant, a piercing scream tore through the air.
“Ah!”
That shriek echoed unsettlingly. All that could be seen was the Great Emperor Northern Flame’s pale, panicked face, now streaked with blood, and his arm hanging limply at his side, trembling slightly. At that moment, darkness momentarily swam before his eyes, and his mind went blank. The ferocious killing intent assaulting him compelled him to retreat instinctually, leaping more than ten meters into the sky before he could finally catch his breath.
Beads of sweat, as large as beans, dripped from his forehead. He lay in the air like a fish washed ashore by a tidal wave, gasping for breath with his mouth wide open. His heart pounded wildly, and fear, terror, and shock consumed his entire being.
Feng Jiu looked at him, her lips curling. Her clear voice carried through the air: “If you were an ordinary person, that move would have been a fatal blow. But as you said, you are a great emperor. If you can’t even dodge that move, then your title is nothing but a false name. However, you won’t be so lucky next time.”
In that moment, her voice sounded like the grim reaper’s call to his ears. His injuries hadn’t healed yet, and with only thirty percent of his strength remaining, he couldn’t sustain the fight for much longer. Perhaps because he had truly experienced her might firsthand, the only thought in his mind at that moment was to escape. He had no doubt that if he continued fighting, he would undoubtedly die by her hands!
