Chapter 3118: Cost Of Sealing A Tribulation

Chapter 3118: Cost Of Sealing A Tribulation

Lin Mu continued to read the latter half of the entry, his breath quickening.

What descended after the seal was released was no ordinary tribulation, but a devastating lightning tribulation that obliterated the entire swarm in one strike. The Lost Immortal’s defensive trump card, a Peak Immortal Grade talisman, shielded him just long enough to endure the onslaught.

Yet even that victory was incomplete. The tribulation had not ended, and his body could no longer hold out. With no other choice, the Lost Immortal activated the Heaven Silencing Seal.

And it worked.

The tribulation halted midway. The heavens were silenced.

The entry ended not with triumph, but with a warning.

Several years later, when the Lost Immortal attempted to lift the seal, the heavens returned. This time, they did not descend with a normal tribulation. What came was a variant, one of terrifying strength that nearly cost him his life. The entry trailed off there, almost as if written in haste, leaving Lin Mu with more questions than answers.

Still, there was one undeniable truth. The seal could indeed stop tribulations. But the cost was to face something far more dangerous later.

Lin Mu sat in silence, absorbing the weight of this revelation.

His fingers tapped against his knees unconsciously as his mind turned over the possibilities. If he used the Heaven Silencing Seal, he could stall a tribulation he did not want. But the deferred reckoning would be far stronger.

Could he endure it?

He thought of the variant water elemental tribulation he had just survived. Its overwhelming power had given him more than the normal metal tribulation ever could.

If the seal forced the heavens to respond with a variant... would that not be exactly what he wanted?

Or would it be inviting a calamity even he could not endure? What if the Seals effect brought forth a Variant unseen by anyone, something even a Peak Immortal could not withstand?

What if it summoned not just a Variant but a Transcendent Tribulation?

There were far too many questions and doubts in Lin Mu’s mind.

Lin Mu’s eyes narrowed, his immortal sense flickering as he glanced inward at the seal within his dantian. Silent, inscrutable, and filled with an aura that seemed to defy the heavens themselves, it pulsed faintly as though aware it had been discovered.

A tool of power, or a curse?

Only time would tell.

But one thing was certain: Lin Mu would not use it recklessly.

For now, he needed patience. And patience was something Lin Mu had cultivated for years.

Lin Mu finally rose from his seat, brushing the invisible weight of deep thought from his shoulders.

Fifteen days of study had given him more clarity than before, yet it had also birthed caution. Testing the Heaven Silencing Seal immediately was unwise. If something went wrong... if the heavens answered with fury or if the seal acted in a way he had not foreseen, then the city and its people would be dragged into his calamity.

That was something he would never allow.

No, this was something he had to test far away, either alone in some desolate land or in a situation where the opportunity was ripe. Until then, the seal would remain a dormant tool in his arsenal, hidden and waiting.

Still, the Lost Immortal’s account had planted a seed of thought in him.

The idea of using tribulations offensively was not without merit. He could summon heaven’s punishment not just for his own trials, but as a weapon to wipe out his enemies. The Lost Immortal had used it as a desperate measure, but Lin Mu was different.

His body could endure more than most, and his Omnicore Ascendancy gave him confidence that very few shared.

Yet, the more he weighed it, the more the thought dimmed.

At his current level, what foes truly threatened him?

Those weaker than him could be cut down with his own sword. Those stronger, or equal, would likely be beings capable of resisting tribulation on their own. In that case, the heavens’ punishment might only serve as an unnecessary complication.

It was a tool, yes, but not one he would rely on often.

He pushed these thoughts aside as he slid open the doors and stepped into the courtyard. The once-vibrant courtyard gardens were cloaked in an eerie quiet. Dust still lingered in the skies, a faint reminder of the dual tribulations he had called down. The world itself seemed to be holding its breath in his presence.

Lin Mu withdrew his Communication Jade slip, feeling its faint hum of activity. He had neglected it for weeks, not allowing anything to interrupt his research. A backlog of messages filled his vision as his immortal sense swept through it.

The first was from Grand Elder Huo.

"The plan is proceeding well. Within a month’s time, all preparations will be complete. We will be ready to act when the signal is given."

Lin Mu’s lips curved into a faint nod of approval. That was good. He had expected no less from the Grand Elder, but seeing the confirmation reassured him that progress was steady.

The second message was from Daoist Chu, more personal in nature.

"Brother Lin, how fares your recovery? Do you require any assistance?"

Lin Mu smiled faintly at the old companions’s concern, though it was unnecessary. The man’s sincerity was something he respected.

The third message was from Meng Bai, brimming with concern.

"Master, are you well? The tribulations looked terrifying. I was worried if something went wrong... but I trusted you could endure."

For a brief moment, Lin Mu’s expression softened. His disciple’s faith was steady, but Lin Mu knew he would have to guide that worry into strength rather than fear.

Without delay, Lin Mu sent back replies to all.

To the Grand Elder, a simple confirmation of readiness. To Daoist Chu, assurance that he was well and recovering. To Meng Bai, words of encouragement, telling him that his trust was not misplaced.

Moments after the messages were sent, the sound of wind being split echoed through the skies.
