Chapter 2717: Assault
Zu An and Firework dashed out of the room and saw the previously moving scenery outside come to a halt. The spaceship had stopped moving.
When Zu An first boarded the spaceship, Employee 9527 had triggered the self-destruction sequence for the temporary world before the spaceship drove off into a series of spatial leaps. Iridescent lights had colored the scenery outside the window along the way, looking as if countless shooting stars were passing by. There was no speed gauge, but Zu An could sense just how fast the spaceship was moving then.
But everything had now come to a halt. This was Zu An’s first inter-universe travel, but he could tell something huge had happened.

Zu An turned around and saw Fluttering Baldie had left his room too and was glaring at him. The latter must have witnessed him leaving the same room as Firework and gotten jealous.
A warning siren blared, as red lights flickered brightly in the corridors.
“Enemy attack! Enemy attack! All troops are to make their way to the warehouse!”
Firework was amused by the ongoing events. “Ha. Someone dares to touch the Universal Conglomerate’s spaceship. Interesting.”
Fluttering Baldie walked over and said, “Miss Firework, you should return to your room. It’s dangerous out here.”
Firework was unfazed. “It’s much more interesting out here. Why should I return to my room? You can return to your room if you’re afraid.”
Fluttering Baldie’s transparent face visibly reddened.
Zu An was speechless. Isn’t he a Knowledge worshiper? Why can’t he see past love? But on second thought, it could be because they had devoted themselves to academics that they were vulnerable to matters of the heart.
“Should we watch the commotion?” Firework asked Zu An with an excited gleam in her eyes.
“Sure.” This was a good opportunity for Zu An to see how others fought in the Myriad Worlds.
Firework smiled sweetly as she dragged Zu An toward the warehouse.
Fluttering Baldie looked like a pitiful dog abandoned by its owner. I know Love and Beauty worshipers are drawn to beautiful things, but I’m known to be dashing among Knowledge worshipers. Many of my peers are jealous of my fluttering hair.
You have successfully trolled Fluttering Baldie for +55... +55... +55...
Firework led Zu An to an elevated platform near the warehouse. In the distance, they saw a hole in the spaceship’s wall.
Although calling it a hole wasn't quite the most accurate, as it resembled a wormhole more. All sorts of monsters rushed out from the wormhole and charged at anyone in sight. Many staff members of the Universal Conglomerate were already collapsed in a pool of blood, while those who had just arrived were busy fighting against the monsters.
The monsters came in all shapes and sizes, but none of them surprised Zu An. All of them conformed to the traits of the countless monsters he had seen in Baopu’s tomb and the Monster World. What he was more interested in was the Universal Conglomerate’s fighting style.
Employee 9527 was clashing with the largest monster using a Star Wars-esque lightsaber.
The monster had the upper body of a beautiful, middle-aged woman. Her hair was tied into a graceful bun, and her makeup looked seductive. Her lower body, however, was that of a giant octopus with countless tentacles that flew toward Employee 9527.
Employee 9527, with his outstanding swordsmanship, could slice off a tentacle with each slash of his lightsaber, but the octopus lady would just regenerate them, rendering his efforts futile.
The spaceship’s staff members were also busy dealing with the other monsters. They wielded guns that shot out red beams. Any monsters struck by the red beams were left with a bloodied hole in their body.
Zu An figured the Universal Conglomerate was more inclined toward the technological side.
These laser beams are similar to sword ki but faster.
He noticed that some of the monsters moved astonishingly fast, evading the laser beams with all kinds of maneuvers before pouncing on the staff members and tearing them into shreds.
But then again, the laser beams lack the flexibility of sword ki and have a predictable trajectory.
“Aren’t we going to help them?” Zu An couldn’t bear seeing so many staff members dying.
“Isn’t it more fun to watch the show? Fighting and breaking out into a sweat isn’t beautiful,” Firework replied with a smile.
Zu An was stunned.
In the end, he still intervened when a young staff member was on the verge of being bitten to death by the monsters. He first exerted a suction force to drag the staff member away from the monster before unleashing sword ki to burst that monster’s head.
“T-t-thank... you...” The staff member was so gripped by fear that he stuttered.
“Take care of yourself.” Zu An dragged the staff member aside before engaging other monsters.
Firework stomped her feet in frustration. “Doesn’t that fellow know that he’s giving away his precious information?”
A black flash of lightning suddenly surged out of the wormhole and shot straight toward Zu An’s back.
“Be careful!” Firework shouted, but the enemy was so fast that her words failed to reach Zu An before the attack landed.
Years of dancing with danger had honed Zu An’s instincts. Despite not seeing anything, he performed a sideward instantaneous movement that allowed him to dodge that fatal attack.
Pah!
The black flash of lightning slowed down, revealing himself to be a bird-headed, human-bodied monster. His clothes appeared to be woven out of feathers, making him resemble an owl. He was wielding a silver hook that struck the spaceship’s floor after missing Zu An, ripping open a huge hole.
Zu An had noticed that the spaceship was made out of a special alloy comparable to the Cultivation World’s immortal-grade weapon materials. On top of that, it was inscribed with technological runes and layered with magic formations, granting it amazing defensive prowess. He himself would have struggled to breach it.
And yet, the birdman tore it apart as easily as ripping paper in half.
The birdman was enraged at having his attack foiled. He morphed back into a black surge of lightning to continue attacking Zu An.
Zu An didn’t dare let his guard down. He performed a series of instantaneous movements to dodge the birdman’s attacks. He did manage to avoid the attacks, but there were many close shaves where the slightest misstep would have cost him his life.
A resounding laugh echoed. A wall collapsed, and a fatty strutted in. “Number Three, you’re struggling with that brat? Let me do it if you can’t!” As he said those words, he snapped the necks of two staff members.
Meanwhile, the staff members were toppling over from the powerful suction force coming from the hole ripped into the spaceship. Some of them failed to stand their ground and were dragged out into space.
Employee 9527 was enraged. He sliced over a dozen tentacles in a single cut before hurling out a net from his sleeves to trap the octopus lady. Then, he flashed toward the spaceship’s hole, took out a light whip, and rescued his colleagues from the void of space. After that, he tossed a lump of paste at the hole. It swiftly enlarged and mended the hole.
Zu An, who was eyeing the situation with his peripheral vision, was awed by the Universal Conglomerate’s advanced technology.
Just then, the octopus lady screeched, “Stop wasting time, Number Four! I’m at my limit!”
It turned out that the net was contracting around her. It cut into her massive body, causing green blood to seep out.
“Hahaha! It’s all down to me in the end!” The fatty laughed. He sprinted forth, displaying agility that was at odds with his massive physique. He dashed to the octopus lady’s side, pulled out a pair of massive scissors, and cut open the net.
The octopus lady quickly ripped the net off herself. She inspected the lacerations on her body and roared in anger, “I’ll massacre everyone on this spaceship!” Her tentacles swiftly extended and randomly lashed out in all directions. Some of the tentacles flew toward Zu An, too.
Zu An was focused on his fight with the birdman when several tentacles suddenly flew over, while his instantaneous movement happened to be on cooldown.
