Chapter 3921: No One In The End
His name was Ximao, A Divinity Middle Stage Expert, one of the few on the continent. However, Ximao was not an expert from the Runia Continent. When the Divine Military Exchange Program was established, nearly all countries sought to have their own experts lead the program. Obviously, there was no way they would reach a compromise if things continued like that.
Finally, an idea was offered that everyone accepted. They would instead invite someone from outside, and it had to be someone from far away, who had no personal interests in what was happening on this continent.
That’s when Ximao was found. In exchange for a very high payment, he would be the Principal of the Military Academy, being neutral to everything that happens to it or outside of it. He had to put the academy above everything else, and make sure no one would try anything that could break the thin balance between the countries of the Runia Continent.
Ximao has been in this role for one thousand years, which was pretty good for him. When he first arrived, he was an Initial Stage Divinity Realm Expert, and he managed to have this breakthrough with the resources provided to him on this Continent. That only made him put even more importance on the academy and make sure it stayed neutral with him on the helm.
"Horgen and the rest, what the hell are you all doing?" Ximao asked, his expression dark.
Horgen was the man who broke Donafela’s barrier. "Principal Ximao, these kids were responsible for the damage in the Judgemental Eye, so we had to investigate straight away. We thought that took priority above everything else."
"Hmph!" Of course, Ximao knew way too well why Horgen and the others did what they did, but he couldn’t prove it since there were only their words to work with. "Even if that’s the case, these kids wouldn’t escape anywhere. Now, all of you, go back. I will see to it myself. You’d better not let me see this kind of shit again, or there will be consequences."
Horgen and the others were unwilling, but they could only do as the principal said. Ximao was the absolute ruler in the Academy. The other Divinity Realm Experts living on this Island were here only for the sake of watching everything, and part of the treaty was that they would never intervene with the academy’s affairs while here.
Of course, they also kept an eye on Ximao himself, and if they saw Ximao starting to take someone’s side too much, then they would intervene. Well, that has never happened with Ximao, and no one believed it would start now.
Ximao then looked at the twins’ group. "Still, even though what they said was only an excuse, for me, the Judgemental Eye damage is indeed a concern. Donafela, have you asked them about it?"
Donafela nodded. "Yes, Principal Ximao. I believe it was because the Judgemental Eye wasn’t ready for the appearance of four Celestial Ascendance Golden Lights at once. It overwhelmed the artifact, which cracked as a result."
Ximao pondered a bit, paying close attention to those kids. "Four Ascendance Radiances, uh? I still remember when Dulifio was found over a thousand years ago. He is now a Middle Stage Elemental Space Realm expert, but much stronger than those at the same level. To think we would get four of them this time around."
Ximao then looked at the crowd in the distance, the five minutes almost over. "I must remain neutral, so I can’t help you against everyone else’s. They all likely have their own agendas. Have you already decided what you will do?"
Donafela nodded. "Yes. Fortunately, we just had enough time to discuss it before we were interrupted."
Ximao began to walk away as soon as he heard that. "Good. Do what you must. I’m going to watch it from afar." Then, he disappeared from the field.
Donafela sighed, turning to the twins’ group. "We can discuss the details later on. Now, go ahead and do as I said. Everyone back there will hear your pledge."
Rean was the very first one to come forward, everyone on the back already expecting what he was going to say. However...
"I’m Rean Larks, and I will remain neutral during my time in the academy. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all."
He did not make any pledge whatsoever! Even worse, he loudly declared he wasn’t going to join anyone’s side!
Donafela almost fainted right there and then. "Did you hear anything I said a minute ago?!"
Rean completely ignored her, his hands on his back and a relaxed expression on his face.
Roan came forward next. "Same for me. That’s all."
And then Kentucky, and Foliana, and Tanxan, and...
In the end, the entire twins’ group made their wish of remaining neutral clear for everyone to hear, much to Donafela’s despair. Sure, after a year, they would likely join someone else, but she still wanted at least one of them to stay on the side of the Galantes Country. Besides, the powers they would join would have been discussed between them and the Glantes Country before that happened... or so it was supposed to be. It was all out of the window now.
’What about that speech about not betraying Galantes that Rean said earlier?’ Donafela couldn’t help but think.
*Wow...*
Sure enough, everyone on the back was shocked by what they heard. With everything that happened, being neutral was actually very dangerous.
No, wait, it wasn’t all of them. There was still Wisfreya, who hadn’t said anything.
Wisfreya was actually even more lost than Donafela. The twins’ group didn’t tell her anything, and she truly thought they would make that pledge that Donafela asked. Yet, things played out like this.
She thought for a moment, and just as she was about to ask them, Roan turned in her direction. Then, his voice echoed in her mind, but it was not Divine Sense. It was something else she didn’t even know how it worked. ’Stay with the Galantes Country. For Me, Rean, and the others, it won’t matter if we stay neutral since nothing on this continent can truly pose a threat to us. You, on the other hand, will need some backup in case we aren’t around. You are too weak.’
Wisfreya’s mouth twitched. She wasn’t weak! She just didn’t have their cultivation!
Well, she already knew by now that even if she had the same cultivation as Roan, he could still trash her thoroughly. She decided not to think about that, though...
"I pledge my first year allegiance to the Galantes Country."
In the end, she did as Roan said.
Behind, Donafela sighed in relief. At least one of them remained. As for the rest... ’They are underestimating their position way too much. Let’s see how long they can endure it.’
