Death… And Me

Chapter 3895: Past Saints?

Chapter 3895: Past Saints?

Back in the Hazin Clan, Ruriklin was pretty much jumping out of excitement after seeing Roan reach the end of Path of Endurance in second place. "Hahaha! No wonder Wisfreya wanted him in her team! That boy is incredible!"

But then, his happiness disappeared. "And yet, our clan just had to give him away for some benefits... sigh..."

The Korko Sect had the same sentiment as Ruriklin, seeing how well Foliana and Tanxan made it through the test. Too bad they couldn’t go back on their deal anymore, especially considering each of them was taken by a top ten power.

Leaving the regrets aside, there were two organizations where their higher-ups were all crying already. Their names? The Wirgga Sect and the Puou Clan.

Going back to the days before the gathering started...

The Wirgga Sect and the Puou Clan couldn’t really be considered powers at all. Pretty much no one knew anything about them. Truth be told, these two should never have taken part in the Martial Gathering. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to, but that they didn’t even have the funds to bring their youngsters to take part in it.

The only reason they were here was really because the Martial Gathering was happening near their doorsteps in Verjansy Country. They couldn’t lose that opportunity, so they registered a few of their youngsters to take part in this gathering. Unless the gathering returned to Verjansy Country in the future, they likely wouldn’t be able to take part in it again.

Then, as you can imagine, even their ’geniuses’ were nothing but a bit above average when you think about the whole Surute Region. Both Puou Clan and Wirgga Sect were already expecting their participants to lose all in the very first event.

That was exactly what happened, and more than half of them died in the Elemental Storms of the first event, if they weren’t killed by other participants first. Truly a bunch of nobodies that no one would pay attention to.

Yet, right here, after the end of the first test of the last event, the Puou Clan and Wirgga Sect looked at the two names that appeared in the official online board. In fact, there was no need for them to look at those names, as they had been following those two names in the official live stream ever since the first event ended.

Gakrid Puou and Rovitel Hofert.

Gakrid, obviously, was a young member of the Puou Clan, while Rovitel was a disciple of the Wirgga Sect. They were literally the only member of their clan and sect, respectively, to even make it into the second event, and that had nothing to do with their abilities. It was truly pure luck that they managed to pass the first test at all.

Then, in the labyrinth, Lady Lucky smiled upon them once more. They got into the correct gravitational shifts by sheer coincidence, then were drawn into the spatial distortions, and found themselves near the center of the maze. Each of them almost died a few times still. But because of their lack of strength, or because others were too busy with something else, they were ignored or managed to escape in every situation.

Eventually, they arrived at the Spire just as other groups were in the midst of intense battles. So, they took their chance, flying straight for the tokens and truly managed to get one each, themselves finding it hard to believe their suicide choice actually worked. It was even more ridiculous since they got to the Spire at different times.

However, the third event started, and the rules were explained. At that point, the Clan and the Sect sighed. The miracle was over. That endurance test’s Divine Energy Pressure would assault their two youngsters. It couldn’t be avoided anymore.

When the Puou Clan and the Wirgga Sect saw their teenagers being refused by all groups, they also understood everyone thought those two were the worst remaining participants, and they couldn’t even deny it. They knew that was the truth. Gakrid and Rovitel would obviously be forced to join the last group with open slots, which was bound to be the worst group as well... or so it should have been.

Imagine their shock when they saw that the last open group was actually Wisfreya’s group? The one cultivator believed to be the strongest in this gathering would be the captain of Gakrid and Rovitel!

But hey! It wasn’t over yet! So what if they were lucky enough to end up in Wisfreya’s group? The Clan, the Sect, and even Gakrid and Rovitel themselves knew they would have no chance of making it through the Path of Endurance. It would be a miracle if they managed to walk a single kilometer, let alone the entire distance. Even worse, Gakrid and Rovitel would be the reason Wisfreya would lose in that first test, and they would be blamed for it... or... again... so it was supposed to be...

Lo and behold! Gakrid and Rovitel weren’t falling behind! Not only that, they were second in the race to the end of the first test!

Were they actually fit for this test?

Could it be that they awakened some incredible power in that moment of despair?

Ha! No fucking way!

The Puou Clan and Wirgga sect, and now, quite a few billion online spectators, all have seen it.

A Demon Plant and a Demon Bird, dragging Gakrid and Rovitel through the sand as if they were just two dead bodies.

Actually, Gakrid and Rovitel weren’t too far from becoming that. The pressure was so intense that every single iota of their Divine Energies was being used just so they could still breathe. Walk? What walk? They wouldn’t have the strength to even sit, let alone walk!

And this is how the tale of Gakrid and Rovitel would be remembered for ages to come. The tale of how luck alone was enough for them to eventually win the Martial Gathering! Many would follow in their footsteps, but none ever to repeat their feat!

---

Back at the present time, Rean looked at Gakrid and Rovitel, kicking them lightly to see if they could move. "Hey, someone there? Are you still alive?"

Gakrid and Rovitel had their doubts. "Are we...? We don’t know..."

Rean shrugged. "Sigh... anyway, focus your Divine Energy and try to recover. It will probably take a few more hours for the first test to end. Don’t worry, we will carry you to the end."

Gakrid and Rovitel were pretty sure now. They must have been real saints in their past lives. That’s the only explanation possible.
