Chapter 2764 - 2765: Doctor Frankenstein's Laboratory

Doctor Frankenstein's Domain was a somber, gothic manor with a towering structure at its rear and a spectral forest encircling it. A garden intertwined with a graveyard adorned the grounds, where numerous Undead greeted us with friendly waves of their decaying or skeletal hands.

As we entered his home, I surveyed the array of items we had acquired, each intended to help me master new techniques and hone my talents.

[Thousand Soul Flame Furnace Refinement Art]

[Records of the Man Who Went Against the World]

[Grazing Heaven Philosophy]

[Comprehending the Building Blocks of Matter and the Elements]

[Alchemical Science Studies]

[Abyssal Crimson Codex Grimoire: Volume 1]

[Abyssal Chaos Mana Core Forging Scroll]

[Primordial Abyss Magic Circuit Synthesizing Scroll]

Quite an assortment.

It was clear they were eager to impart as much knowledge as possible.

Even Wasp, typically aloof and reserved, showed a surprising enthusiasm for aiding my growth, which startled me. Perhaps there was more to him than I initially believed.

He might remain a cold-blooded killer, but he wasn't born that way. Our minds are shaped by more than mere thoughts. There's a deeper layer to this man, a truth he conceals from all.

Why is he like this?

Why does he revel in murder?

What events shaped him into someone driven to harm the innocent?

Could it stem from his nature as the last member of an insectoid race, the sole survivor of his tribe?

He mentioned his tribe's "customs" earlier, such as crafting weapons from the remains of a defeated foe.

That's undeniably brutal. Could his tribe's influence have molded him into the man he is today?

Yet, can I truly judge him? In my early days, I was equally merciless, even toward innocent lives.

I was wild and unrestrained, a true monster.

But as I matured, I cultivated my consciousness and sense of self.

The implanted memories granted me an ego and personality, a mind capable of thought, yet it was distinct from the human whose memories they were.

Ultimately, like my father, I acted on the instincts of a Chaos Spawn, driven to consume everything in my path to quell my insatiable hunger.

Perhaps these books will guide me toward a deeper understanding of who I was and what I am now.

We ascended to the top of his tower, where we found a massive alchemy cauldron connected to hundreds of wires, machines, and magical artifacts.

"Welcome to my grand Alchemy Cauldron. I've refined it over the years, and it can process materials of the highest caliber!" Doctor Frankenstein declared. A hint of madness flickering across his face. "Young lady, this is where the magic begins! You know those potions and elixirs that are distributed and sold within our organization? I'm the one who joyfully mass-produces them. Naturally, I have several disciples as well, though… hey! Where are they?!"

Suddenly, a young woman emerged from beneath a table in the hall, visibly nervous about her master's arrival.

She didn't seem particularly frightened of him, but it was clear she had made a mistake and dreaded the consequences.

She looked like a human until I saw all the stitches on her body and how a few parts of her body had different skin tones, like white, black, green, or blue.

A single stitch ran across the upper part of her head, revealing that from her eyes upward, it belonged to another person or corpse.

She exuded an Aura of Death but also Life.

She existed in a peculiar state between life and death, neither a zombie nor a naturally born living being.

Large metallic components were affixed to her body, with two massive screws protruding from her head, emitting faint sparks of lightning.

"M-Master! I-I didn't expect you would come back so soon! Ahahhh! I-I can explain!"

She trembled, her red eyes darting frantically. She wore a slightly tattered white lab coat, black shorts, and a white blouse.

"Hm?! Franky, what are you implying? Ah!"

The doctor's eyes widened as he noticed the damage. On one side of the alchemy cauldron, several magical items appeared corroded, as if acid had spilled over them.

"W-What did you do now?!"

"I was trying to make an elixir…! And then I ended up tripping on my own feet and fell and… aahh, I'll clean it!"

"Wait, you dumb girl, don't touch that—"

ZAAAP!

"Aaaauuh!"

Franky screamed in pain as a sharp electric shock struck her body, making her foam at the mouth as black smoke surged from her nose, eyes, and ears.

"Ahhhh…"

The Doctor facepalmed, unable to even look at us from the incredible shame he felt.

"My apologies, this is my youngest disciple and daughter, Franky," he sighed. "I made her around ten years ago, but even now she's still learning the ropes. Every now and then, I consider replacing her brain with a smarter one!"

"Please forgive me, father!" Franky cried.

"Hmph… whatever, let me clean, and stay there!" the doctor, despite how angry he looked, didn't want her to get hurt anymore, giving her an elixir and then using his magic and artifacts to clean and repair the area she destroyed. "This girl… one day I'm going to go mad!"

"You're already mad, Frankenstein," Wasp said.

"A bug like you has no right to tell me I'm mad…" the doctor sighed. "It's done… Franky! Why were you trying to make such a high-level elixir?! I haven't taught you this recipe."

"I-I…"

Franky noticed me, surprised for a moment, but then she went back to her father.

"I was… well, your birthday is coming soon… I-I wanted to give you a gift…"

"…"

The doctor crossed his arms, looking grumpy.

But I could tell from his Aura and the Emotions he exuded.

He was a little flustered.

And a bit happy.

"Stupid girl! Don't do that again. What if you get hurt?" he asked angrily. "Your body parts are all from expensive corpses. You'll make me lose a lot of money!"

He pretended he only cared about money, but I knew what he felt deep down.
