Chapter 3902: Winning You Over
Jiu Xian shook her head. “I don’t know. Back when I left the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and went to the Spirit Nidus, I originally left to search for Feng Bo. It was only many years later that Qing Yun and Qing Xiao arrived. Lesser Sancte Dan Jin asked me to protect and care for them as if they were juniors from my own family. Beyond that, I know nothing about them.”
“You weren’t surprised to see another Qing Yun in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”
“There was no need for me to be surprised. It has nothing to do with me.” Jiu Xian took another sip of wine. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she looked at Lu Yin. “Mr. Lu, it seems that you... owe me an answer.”
Lu Yin nodded. “That’s true.”
When Lu Yin had wanted to know more about the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and its relationship with the three megaverses, he had dragged Jiu Xian into a conversation with Old Yu in the Wisdom Domain. The three had each agreed to ask each other one question per round. When the conversation had ended, Jiu Xian had answered Lu Yin’s question, but she had not asked one of her own. That meant that Lu Yin still owed her an answer.
“What do you want to ask?” Lu Yin asked.
Jiu Xian thought for a moment before giving Lu Yin a more serious look. “I’d like to trade in my question in exchange for you not asking me any further questions in the future, Mr. Lu.”
“No.”
Jiu Xian’s eyebrows rose. “Is this unfair?”
“Of course it is. How can one question be traded for many?”
“I don’t have the answers to many of the questions you may want to ask, Mr. Lu. Given your current level, there are very few people in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse who can answer your questions, and I’m not one of them.”
Lu Yin replied, “I’m someone who likes to keep a card hidden up my sleeve. You never know.”
Jiu Xian gave a wry smile. “I just don’t want to get caught up in large affairs anymore. Mr. Lu, you are able to sweep through the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and not even the Greater Sancti can do anything to you. You’re already the most powerful beneath the Immortal Greater Sancti, while I’m just an ordinary Dukkhan. If I’m caught by even the edge of such affairs, I’ll suffer. I’m better off just drinking my wine in peace.”
“You arrived too soon, but then again, it’s good that you did. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even be alive to drink.” Lu Yin suddenly changed the subject.
Jiu Xian did not understand. “Mr. Lu, what do you mean?”
Lu Yin smiled at her. “Is that the question that you are entitled to?”
Jiu Xian met Lu Yin’s gaze and nodded. “It is.”
“You don’t think that I’m lying to you?”
“You aren’t that petty, Mr. Lu.”
Lu Yin nodded. “Most likely, the one currently stirring things up in the Spirit Nidus is the same one that you’ve been searching for.”
“Yong Heng?” Jiu Xian’s eyes flashed sharply.
Lu Yin said, “That’s right. You were looking for Yong Heng in order to find Feng Bo. I can tell you this much: Feng Bo is also there.”
Jiu Xian’s eyes glinted with a powerful bloodlust as she stared at Lu Yin. She failed to even notice that wine was trickling out from her gourd.
Lu Yin continued, “Feng Bo really is still alive, and he’s even in the Spirit Nidus with Yong Heng and Lan. You returned to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse too soon, or else you would have already discovered this. Then again, it’s a good thing that you came back. Given your strength, Yong Heng would have already killed you.”
Jiu Xian’s eyes bulged in shock. “Lan?”
Her eyes flickered. “No wonder, no wonder the Ascendant Hall’s shadow can be seen behind all of this. Is Lan another one of Yong Heng’s people?”
Lu Yin chuckled. “Feeling an urge to go back now, aren’t you?”
Jiu Xian squeezed her gourd of wine as her expression grew darker. If she had known that Yong Heng was behind the current situation, why would she have ever returned to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?
Lu Yin left. He had failed to get any information regarding Qing Yun from Jiu Xian, but that was fine. His curiosity only extended to her unique physique.
The Night Pillar sped on towards the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Two years had passed since it left the Orchid Megaverse. For almost an entire year, the Seventh Night Pillar was not nearly as quiet as before. It was almost entirely because of a single troublemaker.
“Wu Jie, get out here, you little shit! I finally got some rest, and then you bastard-”
“Wu Jie, I better not find you, or else I’ll kill you!”
“Wu Jie...”
“Wu Jie...”
Lu Yin looked over at the commotion. Someone was angrily shouting Wu Jie’s name, but as soon as they noticed Lu Yin looking over, they quickly bowed to him and retreated.
Lu Yin looked away. Wu Jie was a disciple of the Dream Domain, and he was incredibly skilled at stirring up trouble.
From behind, Jing Lian moved forward and took a seat next to Lu Yin. He looked absolutely exhausted. “That Wu Jie is such a bastard. No matter what, I have to visit the Dream Domain and demand some justice.”
Lu Yin was surprised. “He went after you as well?”
Jing Lian gritted his teeth. “That bastard has always enjoyed toying with people, which is completely different from the Dream Domain’s other disciples. All of them focus solely on cultivating. Even if they behave a little underhandedly and secretly learn other people’s battle techniques, they’re at least sneaky about it and don’t publicize the matter, keeping it quiet. But that bastard Wu Jie? He doesn’t cultivate at all! He just enjoys tormenting people. I swear, one day, I’ll skin him alive!”
“He even dares to go after you, one of Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s disciples?”
“Hmph! He’s from the Dream Domain. What do those people not dare to do? After all, they’re also disciples of a Greater Sancti.”
Lu Yin knew that the Dream Domain had been founded by a man by the name of Wu Shang, who had been one of Greater Sancte Mi Jin’s disciples. Recently, with the trouble that Wu Jie had been causing, Lu Yin had learned a bit about the sect’s cultivation method.
The Dream Domain used a cultivation art called A Thousand Years’ Dream. In just a single day, they could have a person experience a thousand years within a dream. Essentially, a person would feel as though a thousand years had passed within the dream, culminating in them committing suicide within the dream. The reality of the situation was that people would not realize that only a single day had passed, nor that the true purpose of the dream was to force a person to commit suicide in the real world.
It was a unique form of control.
To Lu Yin, it sounded similar to the power of Word Manifestation, but Word Manifestation was formed by a fusion of consciousness and manifested thought, whereas the Dream Domain wove a dream that trapped people. It was something that necessitated a slow process.
Still, even if A Thousand Years’ Dream was not comparable to Word Manifestation, it was nonetheless utterly terrifying.
A Thousand Years’ Dream and the Dream Domain had both received their names from the same idea.
The Dream Domain consisted of hundreds of thousands of disciples who roamed about the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, cultivating within dreams. They were able to do anything they desired in those dreams, but because of their sect’s rules, the disciples rarely generated much resentment. Additionally, with Deathmound’s own warnings, even if the Dream Domain cultivators violated certain rules and secretly learned other factions’ battle techniques, they would never spread such information. Overall, the sect had not caused much trouble over the years.
Wu Jie was different, and he was almost a cancer within the Dream Domain. This was not because he broke too many rules, but rather because he just loved to torment people without actually harming them. He restrained himself to the point where even Deathmound could not find fault with his actions. The Dream Domain had issued repeated warnings, but to no effect.
No one had expected Wu Jie to be among those who had traveled to the Orchid Megaverse.
On the trip there, Wu Jie had done nothing. Only during the return trip had he revealed his true nature. That, or perhaps he had experienced some sort of breakthrough and was repeatedly testing things on people. No matter what, he was making life miserable for everyone on the Seventh Night Pillar.
Many went to Gu Duanke, asking him to drag Wu Jie out.
However, the Odyssey Commander avoided the matter. He did not want to antagonize someone from the Dream Domain. Who knew what level Wu Jie might eventually reach? If he eventually became a peak Dukkhan, there might be no one in the Nine Odysseys aside from three Greater Sancti who could escape from his tricks.
It was best to just not provoke the man.
Jing Lian had approached Lu Yin in order to vent a bit. After he left, Lu Yin received an unexpected visitor: Wei Heng.
Lu Yin observed the man, but Wei Heng did not even look at Lu Yin. Instead, he just stared out into the Aevum Inch, saying nothing.
Lu Yin also said nothing. Both men remained silent.
Wei Heng stayed a while and then simply left. The following day, he returned. After staying for a while, he left again. The same visits kept playing out.
Lu Yin could not understand what the man was doing.
Two months later, as Lu Yin was observing Wei Heng sitting next to him, he was finally unable to restrain himself, and he asked in exasperation, “Do you have something to say?”
Wei Heng continued to stare out into the Aevum Inch. “Yes.”
“What is it?”
“To win you over.”
Lu Yin arched a brow. “Win me over? For who?”
“My master.”
“Greater Sancte Blood Tower?”
“Yes.”
Lu Yin stared blankly at Wei Heng. “So... exactly how do you plan to win me over?”
Wei Heng finally looked at Lu Yin. “Don’t know yet. Been thinking about it. For a long time.”
Lu Yin suddenly realized that Wei Heng’s bluntness felt familiar: Deathmound. That’s it, he talks like the people from Deathmound. Complete bluntness with absolutely no pretenses. It’s exactly the same.
“Greater Sancti Blood Tower is the Immortal who oversees Deathmound, isn’t he?”
Wei Heng looked surprised. “How did you find out?”
Lu Yin was not quite sure how to answer. Was it reasonable to say that he had just pieced it together? The temperament of the Immortal’s disciple and the people of Deathmound was exactly the same. Did that mean that Greater Sancte Blood Tower was also like that? It would explain why Gan Mo had not known how to describe his master.
Wei Heng just stared at the Aevum Inch, not saying a word
Seeing the man just sit there, Lu Yin almost felt like he was supposed to be the one trying to win Wei Heng over. Was this kind of passive behavior appropriate when trying to recruit someone?
“I’ve met Gan Mo.”
“My senior brother is a very stupid man.”
“He blocked my path in Skyveil City.”
“What did you just say?”
“I said that he blocked my path in Skyveil City.”
“Not that, your previous sentence.”
Lu Yin’s face twitched. “That I’ve met Gan Mo?”
Wei Heng said, “My senior brother... is a very stupid man.”
Lu Yin stared at Wei Heng, dumbfounded and at a complete loss for words.
Wei Heng rose to his feet. He glanced down at Lu Yin, and said, “My master has a cold face but a kind heart. Do you want to accept him as your master?”
Lu Yin politely declined. “I already have a master. Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. I’ll come again tomorrow.”
“I just said that I already have a master. I won’t accept Greater Sancte Blood Tower as my master.”
“I know.”
“So why are you coming back?”
“To get to know each other. To make friends.” With that, Wei Heng left.
Lu Yin stared at the man’s departing back and chuckled. He could tell that Wei Heng was earnestly trying to carry out Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s order and win Lu Yin over, but the man’s personality really was not well-suited for recruiting people.
Still, it was a personality... that Lu Yin actually liked.
From the moment that Lu Yin had stepped onto the Seventh Night Pillar, Wei Heng had most likely been thinking of how to win him over. But after all these years, the only thing that the man had managed to come up with was to quietly sit next to Lu Yin and wait for Lu Yin to speak first. Quite simply, the man was too straightforward.
The next day, Wei Heng came back, and again, each and every day after that.
During this time, Jing Lian also came to speak with Lu Yin, but when he saw Wei Heng, he immediately flew into a rage and attacked, only to be stopped by Lu Yin.
Jing Lian could not understand why someone like Wei Heng would visit Lu Yin. When he learned that the man was there on Greater Sancte Blood Tower’s behalf, Jing Lian grew even more upset, and he also decided to visit Lu Yin every day.
Soon, the people on the Seventh Night Pillar felt that a very strange development had taken place; Jing Lian and Wei Heng sat on Lu Yin’s left and right, like door guardians. Their proximity started to make even Lu Yin feel a bit uncomfortable.
Fortunately, they were not far from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and would return soon.
One day, right after Jing Lian and Wei Heng both left, Lu Yin’s eyelids suddenly felt heavy. His fingers twitched a bit, and he slowly closed his eyes.
Lu Yin fell asleep, and his sleep lasted a long, long time: a full 1,000 years.
Within his dream, for the first twenty years, he was the young master of a wealthy family, carefree and indulging in various pleasures both day and night. However, on his twentieth birthday, calamity struck, and his family was destroyed by enemies seeking revenge. Blood covered the earth. He fled deep into the mountains and cultivated there. Ten years, twenty years, thirty years... Day after day, he bitterly cultivated, forgetting himself. After more than 500 years had passed, he thought that he was strong enough to get revenge, and he descended from the mountains. It took him three years to track down his enemies, and he fought them to the death.
During that battle, he was defeated, but he managed to escape with his life. He met two beautiful women and experienced love, hate, and sorrow. Eventually, the three of them returned to the mountains, and they cultivated once more. This time, they trained for 100 years before descending again and tracking down Lu Yin’s enemies to get revenge. This time, he won. As he stood over his defeated foe, memories of his family’s tragic slaughter 600 years prior flashed through his mind. His chest heaved as he raised his blade and then brought it back down.
