Chapter 3767: One More Look
The meteorite still showed no reaction, but Lu Yin continued talking anyways. He shared one story after another, not only describing his past battles with Aeternus, but also smaller matters. He spoke of the Lu family’s history and of the bond between the Origin Progenitor and his disciples, who were the Three Realms and Six Daos. He wove story after story, sharing life after life. Some stories were joyful, while others were quite sad.
It was impossible to know if the meteorite heard Lu Yin or not, as it continued its search for specks of light unabated.
“I originally thought that life would go on like that, but then one day, the Spirit Nidus invaded. They wanted to reset my megaverse.”
The meteorite briefly paused, but then it quickly resumed its blinking. The hesitation was barely noticeable at all.
Lu Yin acted as though he had seen nothing. “The High Seraph was invincible as he moved across the stars and slaughtered everyone he encountered in the Heavens Sect... All I could do was board Boundless with the Tianyuan’s greatest experts and head for the Spirit Nidus. We never intended to survive, only buy some time for our megaverse. I refuse to allow my homeland to be destroyed or my family to be completely wiped out. If there is no joy in life, then why should I fear death?”
The meteorite slowly turned so that its large eye could stare intently at Lu Yin, who met its gaze. “Everything that I’ve told you is true. I can understand the sorrow of your homeland. If I hadn’t been lucky, I would have ended up just like you. No, you were at least able to survive, but there would have been absolutely no way for me to live.
“I’m not telling you this to gain anything from you. All that I hope is that, since I am also working towards the survival of my people, you’ll tell me something.
“It’s clear that Che is no stranger to this place. If his Starforged Sword can come here, it can also reach the Tianyuan Megaverse.”
The meteorite stared at Lu Yin for a long time, as if weighing the truth of his words. Ultimately, it left again, and the Broken Realm vanished.
“I can let you see your homeland once more!” Lu Yin shouted.
The meteorite froze, its back to Lu Yin. It did not move at all.
Lu Yin looked at the stone with pity. “You don’t need to say anything at all. Just consider this a bit of charity on my part. If I ever end up like you, I just hope that someone will allow me to see my homeland once more. A single glance would be enough.”
The meteorite slowly turned back to stare at Lu Yin. The eye was calmer than ever before.
Uncertain of whether the meteorite had agreed or refused, Lu Yin released his Karmic Dao again. Light from the Wordless Heavenly Book connected to the Investiture of the Gods, and his Karmic Dao quickly drained away as an image appeared upon the Investiture of the Gods.
This time, the image was not of the Aevum Inch, nor was it of a megaverse resetting. Instead, it was a sweeping view of a deep-blue sky. Stars moved through it while fragrant flowers blossomed in the middle of the void. It looked as though the entire megaverse had been transformed into an ocean of green that was filled with flowers.
Lu Yin stared at the portion of the universe. He saw none of the familiar darkness of outer space. Instead, everything had a deep blue color. It was incredibly beautiful to look at.
At some point in time, the meteorite also turned its attention up to stare at the Investiture of the Gods. The eye looked dazed, and it did not move at all.
Lu Yin’s power of karma was being drained from his Karmic Dao far faster than he should have allowed for such a thing. This was not at all worthwhile for Lu Yin, and yet he remained calm and felt quite content. For a moment, he forgot about benefits and losses. He forgot his hatred. All that remained was the images on the Investiture of the Gods that the meteorite stared at, as though they were eternally frozen.
Soon, a single tear of blood slipped from the meteorite’s eye. It drifted past the stars and towards the Investiture of the Gods.
Lu Yin’s expression changed. How much grief did a creature have to suffer through for it to shed tears of blood?
The eye remained locked onto the Investiture of the Gods. That tear of blood carried its hopes, memories, and wishes as it crossed time and space to enter that blue universe again to search for its most deeply cherished family.
The moment the tear made contact with the Investiture of the Gods, Lu Yin’s Karmic Dao experienced an abrupt surge, startling him. How was this possible?
He turned to look at the meteorite. Could that tear have been the condensed past karma of the creature? All of its emotions had been poured into that one drop that had then merged with Lu Yin’s Karmic Dao.
The meteorite itself possessed the strength of a peak Dukkhan, and not even the Starforged Sword’s destruction of a megaverse had killed the creature. In this, it resembled Mister Mu, who had also faced an Immortal enemy.
Because of its love for its homeland and kin, the meteorite had wandered for countless years. It was only at this moment that its feelings were able to be fully released.
The Karmic Dao instantly swelled to the same level of strength that it had possessed before Lu Yin had observed Cai Keqing’s life, and then it continued to expand further.
Ultimately, it ended up being nearly one and a half times larger than before.
Lu Yin’s Karmic Dao had been strengthened by the karma of the greatest experts from both the Tianyuan and the Spirit Nidus megaverses, and yet a single meteorite was able to match all of that combined. How long had the creature within the stone lived? What Lu Yin was seeing should have been impossible, unless the meteorite’s emotions were so intense that they were able to rival those of an entire megaverse’s elites.
At that moment, the meteorite moved. Its eye was calm once more, and it stared at Lu Yin, unblinking. The eye looked him up and down, as though trying to see everything about him.
Lu Yin bowed and offered his thanks. “I expected to have to pay a steep price in karma. Thank you.”
A bit of energy entered the meteorite’s eye, and the dullness faded a bit. It was as though the meteorite was once again able to see a sliver of hope.
It slowly approached Lu Yin, and he did not move aside. The meteorite was allowed to move right up to him.
It did not matter if the stone intended to harm him, as even if it did have such intentions, it was no match for him.
Even if the stone had moved away from Lu Yin’s hand by some unknown means earlier, so long as he remained alert, it would not be able to easily land a blow.
Suddenly the meteorite released its consciousness and blasted it toward Lu Yin.
Lu Yin arched a brow. Consciousness?
He had already devoured a good bit of the meteorite’s consciousness, and what remained could no longer threaten him. This was not an attack of consciousness, but a gift.
Seeing the meteorite’s intent, Lu Yin accepted without argument, immediately devouring the offered consciousness.
Out of all of the creatures that Lu Yin had ever encountered, the meteorite was the second that he had met which was also capable of devouring consciousness. Both of them were able to strengthen themselves with the Consciousness Megaverse, and yet the meteorite was offering to strengthen Lu Yin.
The meteorite possessed far more consciousness than Lu Yin expected. Clearly, it had not been idle and had devoured a large number of conscients during its time in the current megaverse.
Ultimately, all of that went to Lu Yin.
His own consciousness continued to increase. Partway through the process, Lu Yin’s own eyes started to flicker. A sense of madness and rage was imbued within the offered consciousness, though it was suppressed the moment that it manifested.
Then, memories started to appear.
Fragments of the meteorite’s incomplete memories flowed into Lu Yin along with its consciousness.
The Karmic Dao scattered, and the region of space fell silent.
The meteorite’s consciousness dwindled, until everything that it had released was taken by Lu Yin. All that remained was enough consciousness to maintain a rational mind.
The meteorite looked at Lu Yin one last time and then quickly left.
Lu Yin did not pursue it any further. At no point had the meteorite said anything at all, but everything necessary had already been communicated. There was no point in chasing it any longer.
Even if Lu Yin still did not know Che's origins.
However, he had managed to learn a few things from the meteorite’s fragmented memories, and he had also seen the spots of light.
Each Broken Realm contained a speck of light. In the past, Lu Yin had needed the shard of the Starforged Sword to perceive them, but now he could see them on his own. This was due to that wild, frenzied emotion. It was not just the meteorite’s emotions, but a type of power. It was a legacy passed down within the meteorite’s megaverse. Even the meteorite itself had struggled to cultivate this power, which made it clear that it had reached the level of the Immortal realm.
It was through forcing Immortal level power upon a peak Dukkhan that the meteorite suffered from uncontrollable madness and rage, as they were side-effects. However, it was that same Immortal power that had allowed the meteorite to escape the destruction of its megaverse and become the sole survivor of its species after the reset.
Lu Yin could not understand why the meteorite had given its inherited power to him. This was entirely unexpected.
There was no doubt that the meteorite wanted to get revenge, and revenge was completely impossible without the power of an Immortal. It could also be said that revenge was impossible even with that power, or else Che would have never let the creature live. The Starforged Sword was merely Che’s weapon, and yet it had been enough to pursue the meteorite. Clearly, Che did not fear the meteorite’s power.
Had the meteorite given up? Did it expect Lu Yin to fulfill its wish?
A wave of madness and rage swept through his mind, and Lu Yin clutched his forehead. He suppressed the emotions with his consciousness and let out a breath.
When he glanced around at the Broken Realm again, the spot of light had disappeared.
Only while suffering from the enraged madness could he see the points of light, and they disappeared as soon as the emotions were suppressed.
At this moment, Lu Yin understood why the meteorite kept blinking its eye. That was its way of invoking the necessary manic frenzy.
Whatever those spots of light were, the meteorite chose to endure suffering from uncontrollable emotions rather than give up on them.
There was no question that Che had sought out the meteorite, and yet the meteorite had remained unharmed. Had Che spared it, or was he simply unable to deal with the meteorite? After all, the stone had survived the reset of its native megaverse, which was unquestionably beyond Lu Yin’s own strength. In that case...
Lost in his thoughts, Lu Yin stared at the Broken Realm. He did not hesitate to withdraw his consciousness and return it to his inner universe. As soon as he did so, the insane rage surged, and his eyes grew bloodshot.
He seized the opportunity to observe the Broken Realm again, and he barely managed to make out a spot of light. A single glance was enough for him to observe the entire Broken Realm. The small size of the Broken Realm certainly played a part, but even so, the meteorite had taken days to find each spot of light. It seemed possible that when Lu Yin had first devoured some of the meteorite’s consciousness, he had also devoured a fraction of the uncontrollable emotions, greatly impairing the meteorite’s ability to locate the spots of light.
It was because Lu Yin had quickly followed up and devoured a great deal of consciousness to suppress the madness and rage that he had never seen the spots of light on his own.
He slowly inched toward the point of light, and it vanished. Lu Yin grabbed at empty air, and then he summoned the madness again. As soon as the emotions returned, the light reappeared. He lunged for it again, only for his hand to pass right through it.
Lu Yin could see the light, but he could not touch it. It vanished once more.
He frowned. What was going on? These lights were bizarre.
He thought back to how the meteorite had captured the spots of light, absorbing it into its eye, blinking the light in.
That felt wrong, but Lu Yin decided to try it anyways.
He summoned the frenzied emotions once more and moved his face, and more importantly, his eyes, close to the spot of light. The moment the light appeared, Lu Yin blinked. It vanished. He had still failed to make contact.
Lu Yin was speechless. What was he missing?
After considering the problem for a moment, something occurred to him: the liquified spirit seeds.
He believed that the spots of light might possess the same power that had allowed the meteorite to escape its megaverse’s reset. Any power that could enable a creature to deal with a pursuing Immortal had to be at the Immortal level itself. Lu Yin’s own Immortal-level power was the power of karma.
Supposedly, karma could only be wielded by Immortals. Any who succeeded in comprehending karma before reaching that level could leave their name in history, proving themselves unmatched throughout the ages. In the eyes of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, such an accomplishment should be enough for one to become Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s disciple.
Lu Yin had not only comprehended karma, but he could also harvest another’s karma, and it was entirely thanks to the spirit seed liquid.
With that in mind, he wrapped a hand with the spirit seed liquid while invoking the frenzied emotions that allowed him to see the point of light. He grabbed at it again.
While his hand met nothing solid, he still managed to capture the light.
Lu Yin stared at the speck of light in his hand. He had taken it, and the Broken Realm that surrounded him started to fade. Even so, he could feel nothing at all. It was as though he was clutching a mote of light.
After a moment’s thought, he tossed the spot of light into the spirit seed liquid.
