Chapter 248 - Deadly Mistake

Chapter 248: Deadly Mistake

It was like a scene out of a fantasy. Xia Fei never thought the light emitted by someone with lightning ability would be so mesmerizing. The flicker, which occasionally switched between blue and green, suddenly erupted from Fangyuan’s figure like a strange full-moon above the ring.

The people nearby covered their eyes. Staring directly at electric-welding was harmful to eyes, but the light that Fangyuan was emitting was even stronger than the light produced by electric welding.

The sound of electric current crackling was heard as if someone had ignited a firecracker. The loud noise was soon followed by a burned scent.

Dangerous…

Extremely dangerous…

Xia Fei’s sharp senses were transmitting an unpleasant signal to him. His instinct was telling him to back away, but his mind was telling him that it was even more dangerous to move around aimlessly before realizing when the enemy would attack. He must first observe where the enemy would try to attack so that he could dodge it at the right angle and speed.

Xia Fei’s forehead was already covered in sweat before he realized it. He bent forward slightly. His muscles, concealed by his outfit, were tensed like steel, so he could move at his maximum speed in the shortest time possible to dodge the attack once he made the call. His wide eyes were staring at Fangyuan like lasers.

It felt like Fangyuan needed some time to accumulate his electricity. He stood on his toes while lifting his thick arms above his head as if he was holding the sun.

His body was fully engulfed in lightning, but the light between his hands was the strongest. If anyone was taking a closer look, they would notice that he was not holding his hands together. There was a ten-centimeter gap between his hands, where the bright light was originating from.

Fangyuan suddenly pulled his arms apart. His movement resembled a chef that was making ramen, but instead of dough, he was pulling a deadly surge of electricity.

He rapidly extended his arms apart as he stood in the shape of a cross. He started pulling his wrists in as if he was hugging something.

The brilliant electricity between his hands suddenly exploded.

It was ten times brighter and stronger than it originally was.

The surge of electricity before Fangyuan suddenly split into dozens of lightning arrows. They scattered in a line before lunging toward Xia Fei’s position.

The electricity expanded rapidly the moment it left Fangyuan’s vicinity, turning from strands of noodles to ferocious giant snakes.

The strong electricity surged forth from different directions, sealing off every possible escape route Xia Fei had.

To everyone’s surprise, Xia Fei did not back away from the deadly surge of electricity; instead, he charged forward right after Fangyuan executed the attack.

Xia Fei realized through his sharp observation and quick reaction that his efforts would be in vain regardless of the direction he fled to. Fangyuan’s lightning had a slight arc, too, meaning that the lightning could easily alter its form and direction after it was released. He was unable to predict its movement.

The safest option was to weave through the electricity from the middle the moment it was discharged.

At such proximity and such an outstanding speed, Xia Fei had to be more agile than the lightning.

Xia Fei suddenly jumped into the air as his body formed into a straight line, weaving through the lightning arcs. He landed less than five meters away from Fangyuan, who did not have any time to react after executing his strongest attack. His body was stiff while his face was blank.

It was the chance that Xia Fei had been waiting for, the perfect opportunity for his counterattack.

Xia Fei raised the Bloodthirsty Screech. The longsword over two meters was emitting a faint glow when it slashed right at Fangyuan’s head from above.

Fangyuan grinned while crossing his arms above his head to block Xia Fei’s attack.

“Let’s see if your sword or my lightning is quicker!” Fangyuan murmured.

His body was densely covered in countless lightning arcs. As soon as the Bloodthirsty Screech made contact with his lightning, the sword would conduct the electricity and transmit it to Xia Fei. It was unlikely for anyone to survive the deadly electricity regardless of how sturdy their flesh was. The lightning was going to strike Xia Fei first before the sword landed on him.

Fangyuan had gathered the electricity on his arm at that particular instant. He was planning to use the highest voltage to defeat Xia Fei once and for all.

To his surprise, Xia Fei suddenly let go of the Bloodthirsty Screech when the electricity was just about to reach it.

Fangyuan was dumbfounded.

Since Xia Fei had let go of the Bloodthirsty Screech, he could no longer use it to conduct electricity. It would never reach Xia Fei no matter how strong it was.

However, Xia Fei had also lost his weapon. A warrior without his weapon was like an ordinary person losing his arm. It was something a warrior should prevent at all cost.

Fangyuan grinned. He could already taste victory. He had been wary of the Bloodthirsty Screech even before the fight took place; perhaps the sword was just too eye-catching.

It was rare to see people using a weapon of that caliber, especially when a speed ability user was carrying a longsword that was taller than himself. Fangyuan was feeling uneasy because of how out of ordinary it was. However, he assumed the strange-looking Celestial Moon to be only a normal circular knife for defensive purposes.

It was not Fangyuan’s fault for thinking like this, though. Celestial Moon was indeed not as imposing as the intimidating Bloodthirsty Screech, especially when it was attached to Xia Fei’s right arm like a little, round shield.

Celestial Moon was an extremely rare weapon for those with the psychokinetic ability; thus, people that did not attend schools with lessons on different weapons or lacked experience were unlikely to recognize the weapon at first glance.

The longsword which Slaughtershadow left for Xia Fei successfully distracted Fangyuan. With it managing to keep Fangyuan’s attention most of the time, the rest was very simple.

Xia Fei had a clear picture of what Fangyuan’s abilities were, yet he had yet to show any of his abilities even at this moment.

While Fangyuan was accumulating his lightning to defend himself from Xia Fei’s powerful slash and take Xia Fei’s life, Xia Fei had already let go of his weapon.

Fangyuan was unable to react in time when Xia Fei drew Celestial Moon out of its sheath on his right arm.

“Demon Axe,” Xia Fei said softly as if mumbling to himself.

Eighteen circular disk blades sprang forth, all aiming at Fangyuan’s weak points.

Xia Fei nimbly took a few speedy steps and circled round to Fangyuan’s back.

“Withdraw,” Xia Fei murmured.

Celestial Moon returned to Xia Fei’s right arm. Everything was perfectly still as if nothing had even happened.

A few meters away, Fangyuan’s feet were nailed to the floor like a wooden log, his eyes filled with disbelief.

“That’s… impossible…” Fangyuan wanted to yell the words at the top of his lungs, yet he could no longer make any sound, for his throat had already been sliced in half. Even when he breathed his last, he still did not understand how the strange-looking shield on Xia Fei’s right arm had turned into eighteen deadly disk blades and penetrated his body at a ridiculous speed.

Death felt so strange to him. He was not overwhelmed by pain as he imagined. He only felt a strong dissatisfaction in his heart and his mind going blank.

Xia Fei walked up to Fangyuan and stood beside his body. He spoke in a soft voice that only Fangyuan could hear: “It’s very unwise and deadly for a warrior to show his trump card too early in a fight.”
