Hello Mr. King

Chapter 141 - You Don’t Qualify to Laugh at Me

Chapter 141: You Don’t Qualify to Laugh at Me

This charity dinner went through a lot of assessments. There were even gunmen working as security.

It was solemn. There were a lot of Hollywood stars, but there were scarcely any reporters in the venue.

Yun Xiangxiang and He Wei still attracted a lot of attention when they arrived. Most of it was curious gazes.

It was just like what He Wei said. A lot of people were curious about a girl who could resist the temptation of the shining jewels.

It wasn’t the kind of dinner where everyone would sit in their spots to start the bidding and donation after they arrived. It would appear rigid and uninteresting then.

They would request the people who were providing the items for auction to register first before handing the items over to the person in charge on the spot.

There were also professional appraisers assessing the items if they were antiques. They would only be registered if they were recognized as authentic.

They would then be led to the great hall. It was an extremely extravagant and elegant place.

An enormous crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling. The light that was refracted was warm and luxurious. It sprinkled upon everyone’s face.

It complemented the peerless brilliance of jewels. It was even more so for the ladies who were wearing expensive jewelry. They shone brightly.

“Hello, Oriental angel.” There came a young and vivacious voice just when Yun Xiangxiang and He Wei had found a place to stand.

Oriental angel was basically Yun Xiangxiang’s nickname in New York City now. Yun Xiangxiang turned her head around.

It was a young man with a sunny smile who was wearing a plaid suit that was paired with a red bow tie.

His hair was blond, and his eyes were blue. He was full of energy.

“Wilson Caroline. A descendant of nobility,” He Wei explained to Yun Xiangxiang briefly before Wilson got near.

He Wei naturally had a rough understanding of everyone who came here since he was attending the dinner.

“Hello, my name is Wilson. I know that your name is Yun,” Wilson appeared to be quite enthusiastic. He had a pure smile too.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Yun Xiangxiang skipped her introduction since he knew her name.

“My friends and I are quite curious about you.” Wilson pointed at somewhere afar while he spoke.

A group of youngsters who were in nice attires raised their glasses amicably. Yun Xiangxiang toasted them across space politely.

“Do you really dislike gems?” Wilson asked.

“No, I like them very much.” Yun Xiangxiang answered smilingly, “But I think that friendship is more important than precious stones.”

“Lucky Austin. I envy him for being your friend. Do I have the honor to be your friend?”

Europeans were relatively direct, compared to Asians who were reserved. Yun Xiangxiang’s smile remains unchanged, “Of course. It is my honor.”

Both of them had a happy chat. Austin went around to entertain and socialize. The warm-up of the auction was actually a gathering.

These were unrelated to Yun Xiangxiang. He Wei always stood by Yun Xiangxiang as her guardian. He didn’t leave her too far away.

“My friends also want to know you very much. Is that fine?” Wilson was urged by his nearby friends a few times.

Yun Xiangxiang heard that too. She looked at He Wei when she noticed them moving around.

He Wei paused before he nodded, “You can only adapt to the world of you youngsters by yourself.”

There was some deep meaning in that sentence. Yun Xiangxiang went to Wilson’s circle of friends with him. All of them were Westerners, and all of them must be the children of incredibly wealthy people.

Most of them were still polite. Some were distant; some were enthusiastic; some were cold.

“I know. She’s a small actress from China.” A melodious female voice spoke from one side at this moment.

“Hey, Doris. She’s my friend. Be polite when you talk,” Wilson warned the girl who spoke unhappily.

She was a girl who looked seventeen or eighteen. She was wearing a very extravagant dress. Her appearance was that of absolute European beauty.

She looked at Yun Xiangxiang with arrogant condescension, “Friend? What does she have to qualify as your friend? What’s her background? What’s her bloodline? Or any esteemed position?”

“Doris, you’re drunk. Let’s calm down,” Wilson’s friend tried to dissuade Doris when they saw Wilson’s face change.

“Listen, I only had a glass of Bacardi. I am very sober now.”

Doris pushed them away. She laughed scornfully and raised her wine glass at Yun Xiangxiang, “Bacardi, do you know that? You probably heard of it before, but the wine here is custom made. You have to drink some more. You probably won’t have the next time.”

Doris raised her chin and downed the drink in front of Yun Xiangxiang after she finished.

Lots of people looked at them because they wanted to see some drama. There wasn’t any person in charge coming up to resolve this. Wilson wanted to say something, but he was stopped by Yun Xiangxiang.

She moved gracefully and took a glass of wine. She swerved it lightly using her fingertips. The brilliant light that was refracted made her slender fingertips look softer.

Yun Xiangxiang took a sip. After she tasted it carefully, she said, “It does have a nice taste to it.”

Everyone couldn’t understand Yun Xiangxiang. She didn’t even change her expression even though Doris had humiliated her like this. Did she not understand what happened?

Yun Xiangxiang played around with the wine glass while her hypnotically clear eyes gazed at Doris, “Miss Doris, pardon me, but can I ask about your age?”

“She’s nineteen years old,” Wison replied.

“You are two years older than me. Did you follow your father here?” Yun Xiangxiang asked.

“Yes, my dad is …”

“My dad is just a very ordinary teacher in China,” Yun Xiangxiang interrupted Doris. “But I can come here with an invitation letter today.”

The crowd quieted down. They could roughly guess what Yun Xiangxiang wanted to say. Their faces became quite ugly.

Yun Xiangxiang didn’t care at all. She took a sweeping glance at everyone, “I have always thought that the USA’s culture is independence and freedom. To leave one’s home and make a living for oneself. I thought that they see going back to your home to live an easy life as a shame. Miss Doris made me doubt your country’s tradition quite a bit.”

“I can drink the Bacardi here without my dad’s help. Miss Doris, if you want to laugh at me, do please let go of your father’s help and stand here with your own ability. Then and only then are you qualified.”

She raised an eyebrow and smiled. Yun Xiangxiang put the wine glass down and walked out gracefully. She turned around after a few steps, “Doris, the goddess of the sea. The ocean suits you better. This is land here.”

“Clap, clap, clap.” Three rhythmic claps rang. It attracted everyone’s gaze.

It came from a man who had a very oppressive aura. His height was around one point nine meters. He was wearing a well-ironed wine-colored suit and had light brown hair. His features were quite distinct. His eyes were like a deep ocean. They had a deep blue that anyone would look forward to, yet fearful to approach.

He had a straight nose and sexy lips. Every feature was suitably perfect.

Yun Xiangxiang saw a lot of handsome Hollywood actors today. However, all of them lost their shine in front of this one.

He was walking over so casually with his long legs, yet his every step seemed to be stepping on someone’s soul.

He made people tremble with fear inexplicably while tugging at their heartstrings at the same time.

Yun Xiangxiang would probably take a step back instinctively if she didn’t encounter Song Mian earlier.
