Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4681: Conspiring To Survive?

Chapter 4681: Conspiring To Survive?

"Hmm..." Davis pursed his lips, contemplating before he chuckled, "In fact, things aren’t as despairing as they seem. The Celestial Transcendent’s target is me. It is unlikely that he would target us if I were not on the field. Of course, Myria and the other Divergents in our family are also ideal targets, but they aren’t as powerful as me for the Celestial Transcendent to descend personally. The Venerable Knights would be tasked to deal with them. Utmost, he’d send his avatar, which could be taken care of by Myria if she were to become an Exalt or even Evelynn if she were to use the replica of the Hell Poison Gem and threaten."

"Are you saying you will not come with us?" Tia’s gaze narrowed.

"There’s a possibility for it-" Davis nodded, "If that is what it takes for all of us to survive. Naturally, it’ll be my second last resort."

Tia silently nodded.

Davis continued with a clear tone, "But if his avatar is taken out, he would just descend with his main body. However, I’m thinking that the reason why he would not be coming down with his main body is because the rulers of the four galaxies that is in war with the Celestial Transcendent Galaxy would be keeping him busy. Using this chance, they might plan to attack the Upper Realms. After all, this isn’t the only entrance to the Celestial Transcendent Galaxy’s Upper Realms in the Shard World."

"Indeed." Tia nodded. They had also found another entrance to the Second Layer, but it was inside some power that had probably neglected one of their areas, and chances are that it was inside an Upper Realm.

Provoking that power might lead to being exposed quickly.

Nonetheless, like this entrance, there should be many more spread throughout.

"In a few decades or maybe even as soon as a few years, there’s a chance that they’ll officially start invading the Upper Realms and even the Lower Realms."

"Exactly, the rulers will keep him locked so that he couldn’t interfere personally. I’m thinking... what if we aid these galaxies in invading the Celestial Transcendent Galaxy? That could effectively buy us more time to grow..."

Davis probed, causing Tia to be shocked.

Her mouth went agape, thinking of the vast number of lives that would be slaughtered if they were to do something like that. However, when it comes to the safety of their family, had they not been ruthless? She was not a stranger to the saying: only in chaos can cultivators grow.

When there is order, how could one break the hierarchy?

Regardless, Tia felt torn between the moral conundrum of causing billions to die and the family’s survival.

Davis knew his answer would be the latter, but he hadn’t been forced to such a level yet. Still, by the time he had sunk into despair, it would already be too late to choose.

Tia wryly smiled, "Well, we haven’t even decided where to establish our next stronghold, so that decision can wait until then."

"Right..." Davis nodded lightly.

The two of them felt that this matter couldn’t be lightly decided. If they step on the wrong foot, they could be crushed in an instant. Sometimes, sincerity would do more than trying to be deceptive or aggressive.

For someone like the Celestial Transcendent, the former would mostly work while the latter two would instantly cause him to react ruthlessly. The other party was also someone who bore the weight of the survival of the human race. He naturally wouldn’t care about a single group’s lives when placed against the lives of the human race.

However, as the head of a family, Davis was never inclined to hand over his fate to someone else. He had once given up because the World Master seemed unbeatable in her world and was even capable of retrieving Fallen Heaven from him. He tried to give up his life in an attempt to settle it peacefully for the sake of his family, but she had given him another chance by letting him leave.

He was incredibly grateful for it, yet it was the most difficult decision he had ever made in his life.

He never wanted to make the same painful decision again and did his best to further his abilities and employ many strategies to survive. Only by using his enemy’s enemies could he essentially make a stopgap for him to grow.

"You’re telling me all this like I’m Myria or Mingzhi, who takes care of the security in the family. Have I finally been promoted to their level?" Tia asked teasingly.

"..." Davis came out of his reverie as he reached out his hand and pinched her cheeks, "As I told you before, you’ve proven yourself worthy enough. I will only heavily rely on those who want to come forward and place themselves in abject danger like Myria, Mingzhi, and you. Of course, this isn’t to say that others aren’t worthy or willing to place themselves in danger, but they do not have the capability and experience to retaliate and survive as well as the three of you."

"..." Tia nodded a few times, understanding his words.

Davis didn’t say the most important reason was that he was afraid of losing them.

That’s why he heavily relied on Myria, Mingzhi, and finally Tia after he had seen the effort and sacrifice she was willing to make.

Myria had a rich experience surviving alone, although it wasn’t exactly a happy journey, and the power she held was also only second to his.

Mingzhi may not be as powerful as Myria, but with her experience as an investigator, bounty hunter, and intelligence specialist, and her ruthless persona, he believed she was capable of overcoming most situations.

Finally, Tia was their Karmic Guardian Empress who was capable of sensing latent danger through divinations and acting preemptively. In the past ten years, she had been incredibly helpful in setting up formations that eluded suicidal divinations, and recently, in their journey, she had even showcased her ability to traverse the Shard Continent without receiving much help. It moved him and allowed him to see her as a bonafide and powerful Mystic Diviner rather than just viewing her as his little aunt who dabbled in divinations with strangely acquired knowledge.

In short, these three beauties were pillars of the Davis Family in their respective fronts. Although Evelynn, Isabella, and Shirley were as good as they were in most cases, he didn’t have the courage to let them stand in the forefront for no reason unless it was an emergency. If they were to be entrapped, their ability to escape wasn’t as great as Myria, who won’t die, Mingzhi, who had ’twilight’ to simply disappear from observable reality, and Tia, who possessed mystical means.

Davis chuckled and erased the traces of their visit here before sauntering back to the Eternal Eclipse Bird with the others. He decided to leave them in the fortress. It didn’t take much time to traverse since he had the bird, so he wasn’t worried about losing time.

After leaving them in the fortress, he quickly headed to the Luminous Rage Shard Region to check up on Niera.

She appeared to be almost done. In the meantime, he explained the events that took place to Myria. However, he didn’t divulge about the True Deity Stage since, unlike Tia, Myria would be facing the Celestial Transcendent.

It would be hard for her to combat with incredibly high karmic burden that increases the prowess of her heavenly tribulation and makes the Celestial Transcendent more powerful.

Naturally, Myria had grown stronger since her last tribulation, so he wasn’t particularly worried even if she were to know, but Myria didn’t ask either, knowing the corresponding dangers.

He began from using the spindle to deal with the Void Reflection Palace’s Zealots. He didn’t hide this matter like he did with Tia, since Myria was already familiar with Fallen Heaven’s karmic abilities and the implications of the Scarlet Destiny Spindle.

She maintained a calm outlook while listening as he addressed the True Deity Stage as the ’afterstage’ and came to understand the same thing as Tia.

Her heart was naturally rattled after hearing the whole thing.

Ultimately, she sighed, "In my first life, I could never touch upon the secrets of the Second Layer as I was barely an Immortal Emperor trying to escape for life. Now, it seems like it was filled with monsters who probably oversaw my misery and laughed from the skies."

She clenched her fists, seemingly figuring out that the people who hunted her down and suddenly helped her were doing it for fun. Numerous hidden factions fought to obtain her as a form of resource to gain eternal life and power. She suspected that if it weren’t for the Celestial Transcendent or someone else doing something secretly from the shadows to protect or keep her from Exalt Stage experts for various reasons in the Upper Realms and the World Master pulling into her world at the final moment in the Lower Realms, then she might’ve indeed died a dog’s death numerous times.
