Chapter 1114: The Disappeared Third Person
Behind the door was a small suite, but strangely, the cries for help vanished the very moment Ling Mo slipped inside. The sudden silence made the atmosphere in the room turn a bit eerie, and Ling Mo’s sense of alertness instantly shot to its peak.
He carefully suppressed his own psychic activity, even shrinking his “body” a little, before cautiously observing the room’s environment and situation.
There were two interior doors in this suite. With the living room empty, Gu Shuangshuang must be behind one of those doors. And for Ling Mo at this moment, entering either door would be easy; in fact, rescuing Gu Shuangshuang directly wasn’t impossible either. But for some reason, facing such a smooth situation, Ling Mo felt a vague sense of unease.
First, the timing of Gu Shuangshuang’s cries was just too coincidental… Second, was that Progenitor Zombie really so confident that he’d let his opponent snatch away the bargaining chip in his hand so easily? No, only a truly common zombie would be so willful and direct, and judging by the Progenitor Zombie’s behavior so far, he wouldn’t do such a thing. Even if he was using Gu Shuangshuang as a decoy, this trapping scheme was just too simple and crude… Ling Mo suspected more that the other side simply wanted to lure him over, and that the real problem lay either with Gu Shuangshuang herself or somewhere in this suite.
Just like outside, the suite was filled with Spiderwebs, and there were even quite a few Spider Eggs hanging around. Occasionally, you could spot the shadow of a Spider in the webs, but upon closer inspection, you’d find they were all dead. Yet the damp mucus on the floor silently indicated that Spiders hadn’t vanished from here. Maybe in some corners invisible to humans, a large number of Spiders were still sensing their presence…
Ling Mo also found a lot of psychic light points here, but aside from that, he found nothing else…
“This is way too abnormal… Did I overestimate that Zombie’s behavior, making it too human-like? Maybe he’s someone who relies on brains but still retains the principles of a Zombie?” Ling Mo was worried about Gu Shuangshuang; with no sign of anything unusual, he could only choose to check on her condition. But he had to admit, as he slowly approached the door, he was actually a bit nervous… Gu Shuangshuang. Was she still alive…
Although, based on his deductions, Gu Shuangshuang and the others should be safe for now, in this world, what you fear most is the endless stream of unexpected events… So-called deductions are just a synthesis of various factors to calculate the most likely outcome, but what if what he saw next happened to fall outside that “greatest possibility”?
This wasn’t the first time Ling Mo had such thoughts… For someone always thinking about survival, these thoughts were like a sword hanging overhead-though it hadn’t fallen yet, its terror lay in the fact that it could drop at any moment. Even for other Survivors, this was the main reason they felt so unsafe.
Maybe it was because he was now fully merged with his spiritual body, but Ling Mo felt that all those issues he usually ignored were now scrambling to the forefront of his mind.
A mental ability Progenitor Zombie… In this remote granary, they actually ran into such a troublesome opponent…
“Phew… So the switch isn’t just to keep myself from turning into a muttering lunatic? If I’m always worrying about so much, maintaining this level of psychic pressure, I won’t last until Ye Lian and the others fully regain themselves and we can live a normal life together, right? But speaking of normal life, that’s a bit too extravagant… I’ve only dreamed about it, never thought I’d actually remember it now. This must be the Subconscious at work, huh?”…
Ling Mo took a deep breath, adjusted his mood, and slowly approached one of the doors. Before entering, he didn’t use his usual habit of Sensing with psychic power. The opponent was a mental ability user; all his abilities might be related to psychic power, and so were the traps he set. So the deeper he went, the more he had to conserve his own energy and avoid falling into the other’s designs. His greatest advantage right now was that the opponent didn’t know it wasn’t his real body coming, and he could use this freely moving psychic puppet to scout out all the situations in advance, maybe even turn the tables on that Zombie.
“If it weren’t for Ye Lian and the others, this plan wouldn’t have worked. The other side is holding back, not showing up, all because he’s wary of them. That’s exactly why I have a loophole to exploit… But if I’m exposed, who knows if he’ll just fly into a rage and do something unpredictable… Wait, I’m overthinking again! I just can’t stop!”
Ling Mo shook his head once again, then decisively slipped through the door. As soon as he entered, his eyes landed on a figure curled up in the corner. What was terrifying was that she was completely wrapped in Spider Silk, and both her body and the surrounding area were crawling with Spiders. At this moment, aside from a vague human shape, it was impossible to see what she actually looked like.
“Gu Shuangshuang?!”
Ling Mo wanted to shout, but except for the Zombie Puppets with whom he had established a psychic link, rashly initiating psychic communication with others was a bit like forcing one’s way in… After all, to put it bluntly, this kind of act was essentially an invasive psychic shock-by forcibly entering the other person’s psychic light cluster, then projecting-no, instilling-his own thoughts, and reversely Reading the thoughts the other party wanted to convey, thus achieving communication. If the target was an ordinary person and their mental state was poor, then such communication would definitely not be a pleasant experience. In fact, this was exactly why Ling Mo didn’t like Black Silk suddenly popping up in his mind… It always felt like being forced, okay!
“Forget it, I can’t worry about that now… Maybe she won’t mind… Hmm, although that’s unlikely, at times like this I can only think that way…” Ling Mo circled around the human-shaped cocoon, confirming that she was just scared silly… Her psychic activity was still present, just not very strong… And judging by the strength of her psychic light cluster, she really was Gu Shuangshuang…
“…Come to think of it, I’ve never casually extended my Tentacle toward my own female subordinate… Good thing no third party saw this. But did that Progenitor really just leave her here? Maybe I’m overthinking it? Wait… that’s not necessarily true! Thinking carefully, if I personally came here and saw Gu Shuangshuang like this, what would I do?” Ling Mo quickly came to a conclusion… If his main body were here, the first thing he’d do would probably be to rescue Gu Shuangshuang. Not just observe her situation at such close range like now.
This wasn’t because Ling Mo was particularly calm right now, but because of the characteristics of these Spiders… Just from the vibration of the Spider Silk, they could tell someone had arrived, so from the moment Ling Mo entered, they wouldn’t give him any chance to observe…
“That Progenitor Zombie can’t possibly be pinning all its hopes on these Spiders, so there’s something wrong here…” Ling Mo gave Gu Shuangshuang a deep look, then cautiously extended a Tentacle.
As the Tentacle entered the psychic light cluster, Ling Mo immediately Sensed a layer of resistance… But he didn’t force his way in; the resistance itself showed that Gu Shuangshuang was still instinctively protecting herself… Ɽà𐌽őᛒΕS̈
“Hey, wake up, can you hear me?” Ling Mo repeated several times before finally “hearing” a panicked voice.
“Who are you!”
“Don’t be afraid, it’s me, Ling Mo. You can’t see me right now, but I’m here to save you…” Ling Mo quickly said.
“Captain…” Gu Shuangshuang’s body visibly trembled, but as soon as she moved, the Spiders immediately started crawling, scaring her into screaming in her mind, “Ah! Help! Captain, save me, I can feel them, their legs are crawling all over my skin… And this Spider Silk… Ahhh!”
“Gu Shuangshuang, calm down and listen to me… Where’s Skinny Monkey? Do you know where he is?” Ling Mo soothed her while asking. The Spiders were still crawling outside, and the Spider Silk formed a barrier. Before figuring out the situation, Ling Mo couldn’t rashly alarm the Spiders, to avoid causing any irreparable consequences…
Gu Shuangshuang trembled for a while longer before she managed to steady herself in her fear, stammering, “I don’t know either… I… I was trying to catch up with them… But halfway there, I suddenly saw Skinny Monkey… He looked really strange, just standing there motionless… I was scared to death, called out to him but got no response, so I went over to try and pull him away with me. But as soon as I got close, someone knocked me out from behind…”
Ling Mo pondered for a moment, then speculated, “He was probably attacked by psychic power…”
“When I woke up, I was already here, and there were Spiders everywhere, weaving webs on me… I started screaming, but in no time I was completely wrapped up… Oh, right…” Gu Shuangshuang suddenly asked nervously, “Captain, how come I didn’t hear anything when you came in…”
