Chapter 231: A Loving Married Couple Leads to A Happy Life
Upon hearing that, Uncle Zhong winced and said, “Aren’t you guys ashamed of showing affection in front of an old man?”
Mu Siyin let out an awkward laugh. “We didn’t do it on purpose, Uncle Zhong.”
Uncle Zhong glared at her. “If both of you did it on purpose, how would I be alive?”
Mu Siyin did not know whether to laugh or cry. That old man was getting senile again.
Shi Beiyu raised his eyebrows slightly. “You can act as if you heard nothing.”
Uncle Zhong snorted. “It’s all in my ears. How can I act like I didn’t hear it?”
Mu Siyin became annoyed. “Stop it, both of you! Can’t both of you let me engrave in peace?”
Just as she said that, both of them went quiet.
Uncle Zhong was looking forward to Mu Siyin’s engraving technique.
Mu Siyin looked at Shi Beiyu and said softly, “Hold the magnifying glass still. I’m about to start.”
Shi Beiyu grinned. “Don’t worry. You can engrave in peace.”
Upon hearing that, Mu Siyin smiled and lowered her head. “It’s for you anyway. Don’t blame me if it turns out ugly.”
Shi Beiyu added, “As long as you engraved it, I’ll take it even if it’s ugly.”
Uncle Zhong raised his hands and covered his ears. “I’m not listening.”
Shi Beiyu and Mu Siyin were speechless.
As a matter of fact, Mu Siyin’s engraving technique was superb. She engraved the simple word “Bei” right after the word “Lan” in just five minutes.
Mu Siyin put down the pen and lifted the jade. Looking at the tiny word “Bei” that she had just engraved, the corners of her lips slowly lifted into a smirk.
Uncle Zhong leaned his head forward in excitement and said, “Little Siyin, hurry up and let me have a look at it.”
Mu Siyin handed the jade over to him with a smile. “It looks quite decent.”
Uncle Zhong placed the magnifying glass over his spectacles to look at the tiny yet graceful and simple engraving. He tutted while shaking his head. “You surprise me, Little Siyin.”
Mu Siyin chuckled. “I told you I won’t break it.”
Just as Uncle Zhong wanted to take a closer look, Shi Beiyu suddenly reached his hands out and took the jade away.
Uncle Zhong snorted. “Penny pincher!”
Shi Beiyu ignored him this time. He looked at those words and read softly, “Bei is my only love.”
When Uncle Zhong heard that, he asked in confusion, “By the way, Little Beibei, isn’t this your gift to Little Siyin?”
Stunned, Mu Siyin tried very hard to come up with something
However, Shi Beiyu replied firmly, “She’s returning it.”
Uncle Zhong cast Mu Siyin a bemused expression and told her seriously, “Little Siyin, since he has given it to you, it’s yours. Why are you returning it? This is your token of love!”
Before Mu Siyin could reply, Shi Beiyu added, “She’s returning the gift, precisely because that is our token of love. Isn’t it, Yinyin?”
Deep down, Mu Siyin smiled bitterly.
‘Is it right to deceive an old man like this?’
Shi Beiyu thanked Uncle Zhong before he dragged Mu Siyin swiftly out of the door.
Uncle Zhong stood rooted on the ground as he watched them disappear in front of him. He could not help but lifted his hand to scratch his head and said with a grimace, “Why do I feel like something’s not right?”
Shi Beiyu dragged Mu Siyin to the kitchen and finally handed the jade over to her. “Help me put it on.”
Mu Siyin chuckled as she took it and nodded yes.
Shi Beiyu actually liked the engravings on the jade and the meaning behind it — a loving married couple leads to a beautiful life.
He would treat it as a token of love from Mu Siyin.
Mu Siyin put on the jade for him and said softly, “Keep it safe.”
Anyhow, Mu Siyin felt that the origin of the jade was a little mysterious. Hence, she decided to go back in her free time and see if she could find any clues.
