Chapter 768: Boring CompetitionTranslator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
PVP competitions in <<REBIRTH>> were not the same as all the PVP competitions in other games. As a virtual reality game, <<REBIRTH>> could be considered to be one of the first to have this feature.
In the previous competitions, as long as gamers were not lacking in reaction speed and some knowledge in terms of strategising, they would be relatively strong. However, the virtual reality model introduced a whole new way of movement control which contributed to the rise of many new experts.
An example would be a gaming noob like Wang Yu who would at most be a sidekick in the ordinary games. However, it was completely different in <<REBIRTH>> because even a top professional expert could only blame his own rotten luck if he ran into Wang Yu.
There were over millions of participants in each server so nobody knew if they might run into some extraordinary opponents. There was no way they could treat each opponent with the same mindset as before.
The official start of the competition was three days later. Almost every team that had registered for the competition would either be working hard to complete quests to level up or looking for materials to upgrade their weapons. They were all hoping to increase their strength to the maximum on the day of the competition.
Three days later, the selection of the competition was as scheduled. The Quan Zhen Sect received the system notification too.
To ensure that the players would have a positive attitude, the first day of the competition would usually be held within their main city’s public arena.
After all, everyone was a local so there was no such thing as home advantage.
The first day was always the day with the most number of teams as it was also called the elimination round. To ensure that they could clear all the teams, every main city’s public arena would have four matches going on at the same time.
At the forefront of the arena, there were four big displays where every player and spectator could watch the ongoing matches.
The rules of the competition were simple. The main aim for the first day of the competition was to eliminate those teams that were like fishes in troubled water.
Any team that can win four matches would automatically progress to the second day’s contest.
Of course, there would be only 100 team slots for the second day’s contest. If there weren’t enough teams that could win four matches, the remaining slots would be filled up based on the matches results.
After receiving the system notification, the Quan Zhen Sect walked into the public arena with immense pride and complacency. Even though the arena didn’t look huge at first glance, it wasn’t squeezy even after the entire city of people entered. One didn’t have to think too much about how this was possible. This was because this was something like a dungeon so if the system wanted it to fit billions of people, it wouldn’t be a problem as long as the server could fit that many people.
Presently, there were not as many people as they initially expected. The majority of them were players who came to participate in this competition. Everyone was seated at the battle team’s observation zone. All of them looked either excited or nervous about this event.
This was also within expectations. The entrance fee to the arena was 10 gold. The first day was merely the elimination round so there would be more average and lousy players than experts. There was no need for everyone to spend this money unnecessarily.
However, this wasn’t the same for the competing players. Their registration fee included the entrance fee… Any player with the competition quest would be free to enter. Since they need not spend any money and could watch their potential opponents fight, there was no reason for them not to be here.
Wang Yu led his team as he found the seats for his team, A Murder Of Crows. Following which, they focused and watched the ongoing matches on the big screens. A few minutes later, their eyes were wide opened at what they saw.
The coordination system in <<REBIRTH>> was much tougher than the usual keyboard and mouse games. For keyboard and mouse games, only a few fingers were needed to move your character. However, a virtual reality game would require the player to be observant and alert using all their senses. To be completely honest, a hooligan on the streets might be even better at learning such games than nerds that stayed in their rooms to play games all day.
Currently, the arenas were filled with stationary Magicians and Warriors going head to head… Assassins and Archers were slightly better because it was easier to learn the controls for nimble jobs. However, it was basically an eyesore for top experts like the members of the Quan Zhen Sect to look at how other players used jobs with higher difficulty such as Pugilists and Shamans.
And this was even after setting the minimum level to be level 40. If they allowed those below level 40… the Quan Zhen Sect would probably not want to watch anymore.
Ming Du said with disgust, “What? What are they even doing? How dare they compete in this competition with this standard?”
“Elimination… How high do you expect the standard to be? Who is our next opponent?” Spring Halo asked Mu Zixian.
This was what the leader had to do… Not only must he be in charge of his teammates’ basic clothing, food, housing and transport needs, he also had to be in charge of the competition schedule for the team. An outstanding leader would even be able to analyse his opponents to know their weaknesses and strengths. This was something Mu Zixian wouldn’t be able to do.
“Team End Of The World.” Mu Zixian looked at the schedule as she replied.
“End Of The World? What kind of name is that? One look and I know they must be a trashy team!” Hearing the name of their opponent, Vainglory replied in a disdainful tone.
However, Frost Blade commented, “This team is not trashy… I can’t believe we meet them in our first elimination match.”
“Oh? Which guild?” Hearing what Frost Blade said, everyone grew interested.
Frost Blade replied, “False Symphony’s team and their leader is 2012.”
“2012 ah…” Everyone nodded.
Everyone recognised 2012 as that little fatty was also a high ranking expert back then. Wang Yu and Brother Spring had even snatched their monster before while Fearless had scammed them for their monster before… Now that they met Quan Zhen Sect again, they were really a bunch of unlucky people.
“False Symphony could be considered a large guild right? How did they end up in the selection competition?” Wang Yu scratched his chin as he asked.
“I’m not too sure about this… After all, there are already two large guilds in Twilight City,” Frost Blade answered.
At the thought of it, everyone felt that Frost Blade’s explanation made sense. In Twilight City, Sanguine Alliance had manpower while Void Blade had money. There was simply no way a third large guild could survive under the noses of these two powerhouses.
Of course, 2012 was not an idiot as well. It could also be because he felt that entering the competition through the selection path was easier than accumulating points.
On the opposite end of the Quan Zhen Sect, 2012 watched the matches on the big screens and felt extremely embarrassed. He turned to a Priest beside him to ask, “What kind of players are those? Old Qi, who is our first opponent? Can’t be as bad as this team on the screen right?” The Priest addressed as Old Qi actual in-game name was Happy Man Qi. He was the current leader of Team End Of The World and was also the number two figure in False Symphony.
Happy Man Qi flipped through his schedule and replied, “They are called A Murder Of Crows.”
“A Murder Of Crows? F*ck! What kind of name is that? One look and I know they are a trashy team!” 2012 replied promptly.
Evidently, this fella said the same thing as Vainglory.
The competition went on for another half an hour and following which, the match in ring number 3 was ending. That was when Quan Zhen Sect and 2012 received the news.
“The next match is Team 003318 vs Team 001214. Please enter the stage 3 minutes later and may all participants prepare to fight. Once you miss the preparation time, the competition system is not to be held accountable.”
