Evelyn sat alone in her seat, staring blankly at the movie tickets in her hand. Felix sat in a seat two rows behind her, looking about warily.
At half past ten, when the movie was about to begin, the ticket taker began checking the tickets.
After looking around, Evelyn walked into the theater alone, disappointed.
There were only a few people inside the theater. She found her seat easily and sat down. To her utter dismay, Sheffield didn't show up even after the movie began.
She had no idea what was going on in the movie. Her mind was elsewhere, preoccupied with thoughts of him. She told herself that she needed to be as patient towards him as he was to her in the past.
However, half an hour later, her patience waned and was gradually replaced by anger that surged up in her heart because he had stood her up.
She closed her eyes and put her hand on her forehead to compose herself. She didn't notice the black figure entering the theatre.
Felix was sitting in the last row, on the far left. The figure walked towards the right side of Felix and sat down in the far-most seat.
Felix noticed the man, but since the theater was very dark and they were not sitting close to each other, he couldn't make out the person's face.
And after the person sat down, there was no more movement from his side. He was just sitting there, watching the movie. Felix did not pay any more attention to him.
The movie came to an end, and Evelyn still couldn't see any trace of Sheffield.
She sat still in her seat and looked up at the blank screen with a bitter smile. It seemed that he really didn't want to be with her again.
She walked out of the cinema, followed by Felix. When they got to the car, Evelyn stood still. She didn't get in. "I want to take a walk," she told Felix.
"Okay, Miss Huo."
Felix asked the chauffeur to wait for them in the car and he silently followed her.
It was early summer; the weather was pleasant. Evelyn walked slowly along the midnight road.
A few cars occasionally whizzed by her; a young couple was quarreling on the other side of the road. They hugged for a while, then separated and argued again.
A few meters behind Evelyn, two men were whispering in their lowest voice. "You go back. I'll take care of her."
"I'm sorry. It's my duty to follow Miss Huo closely."
"God! You are even more stubborn than Tayson! C'mon, man! I'm the last person in the world who could harm Evelyn," Sheffield said firmly.
Felix disagreed, "I don't think so. You're the only one in this world who could hurt her. Just like what you did tonight." It was not until the lights in the theater had come back on that Felix had seen that the black figure was actually Sheffield.
He sat in the last row and watched Evelyn, but didn't go anywhere near her.
"I have my own reasons, okay? If I break her heart now, she will end up loving me more in the future." Sheffield had been too nice to Evelyn in the past, which had resulted in her neglecting his feelings all along.
Felix was confused by his words. 'This guy is so weird, ' he thought. "Although I don't have much experience in matters of love, I've heard a lot of people talk about it. This is the first time I'm hearing that breaking a woman's heart would make her love you more. Mr. Tang, I'm pretty sure that you have some kind of grave misunderstanding about a woman's heart," he said.
"Misunderstanding? Trust me, man. I know how women think, and I know Evelyn very well. I'll show her that I can be stubborn too. She can't ignore my feelings anymore."
Felix was speechless. Sheffield's stupidity was more than he could handle. 'Is this guy serious about this game? Does he really have the guts to be stubborn in front of Miss Huo?'
Before Sheffield could say what he was about to say, he noticed that the woman in front of them was slowing down. Quickly, he hid himself in the dark corner.
Evelyn stopped and turned around; she thought she heard someone talking behind her.
But there was no one in sight, except Felix, who had a strange expression on his face.
'Was it an illusion?' she wondered.
Felix collected himself and asked, "Miss Huo, shall I call the car?" 'Come on, get in the car now. Or I would be brainwashed by that man, ' Felix pleaded in his head.
Evelyn shook her head. She hadn't taken a quiet stroll around for a long time.
"I'm going to walk a little more."
She checked the messages on her phone as she continued to walk. There were a lot, but none from Sheffield.
What was he doing right now? Was he at work? Did he go to bed? Or was he fooling around with another woman somewhere?
After seeing her disappointed eyes under the streetlights, Sheffield couldn't bear it any longer. He picked up his pace to catch up with her from the opposite side.
Felix followed after him, but couldn't get to him before the man was standing a meter away, in front of Evelyn.
She was startled by his sudden appearance. "You..." She was at a loss for words. She had been thinking about him all night and here he was. Finally.
Sheffield feigned a nonchalant expression. "Hey! What a coincidence. I was just passing by. How was the movie?"
'Coincidence? In a big city like Y City, he just happened to pass by here?'
Evelyn sneered, "What? Are you here to see how embarrassed I am after being completely ignored by you? Did you come to brag about how many women you have had tonight or about some beautiful lady you slept with while I was waiting for you?"
'No, ' he thought. It was at the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed it and nodded with a smirk, "That's right. But to be honest, of all the women I have been with, you are the most stubborn. You never try to make me happy or sweet-talk to me. All those other women are so tender towards me; they act cute and my heart melts."
However, the one he loved the most was this stubborn woman who never played weak in front of him or anyone else.
Evelyn grabbed her bag and threw it at him. "Get lost!" She was pissed. He was such a jerk; she didn't even want to talk to him at this point.
Instead of dodging, he flirted, "See? Admit it, you're so stubborn. Come here." He stepped forward and took her into his arms under her cold and angry gaze. "Let me teach you how to be a woman," he purred, lowering his head and kissing her deeply on her red lips which he had been missing for the past two years.
Evelyn was caught off guard.
After a few seconds, she broke herself free and slapped him across his face. Let alone Sheffield, even Evelyn was surprised by the slap. She didn't mean to.
The silence between them was dreadful.
The smile and the dandiacal look on Sheffield's face disappeared. His eyes were as calm as the sea.
"You are disgusting, Sheffield! How dare you kiss me with those lips that had just kissed another woman? It makes me sick!"
Rubbing his cheek, he replied, "I never kissed them." But he deserved the slap; he had basically asked for it.
"Even if you didn't kiss them, you must have hugged them. Anyway, I don't care what you did with them. You really make me sick!" Evelyn didn't know what was going on inside Sheffield's mind. He stood her up at the movie, then came all the way just to tell her that he had been in bed with another woman. She didn't know what to make of his behavior. Did he think that, in order to get back with him, she would ignore the fact that he was sleeping around with other women? She had had enough of this drama.
