Lord: Stripped of My Inheritance from the Start

Chapter 495 - 468: Appointment

Chapter 495: Chapter 468: Appointment

In Golden Feather Palace, His Majesty King Bruno summoned several Ministers of the Kingdom and the special envoys of major noble families stationed in Golden Feather City. The agenda: to discuss proactively tearing up the truce agreement and attacking the Tricia Kingdom.

After all, while tearing up a peace agreement was easy, re-signing one if the situation turned sour was another matter entirely.

Although intelligence reported that the Molten Fire Duchy had returned to the Tricia Kingdom’s fold after a period of turmoil, stabilizing the enemy’s internal strife...

...Bruno was still very confident in the battle to retake Mist City.

For one, he had been preparing for nearly a year. For another, and most importantly, Ronin’s army had already reached the border.

With that Proud Sun Knight and his Giant Dragon present, the scales of victory were already tipping in their favor.

At Bruno’s urging, there was little opposition. The discussion focused more on the preparations required before breaking the truce.

Once the war began, besides the Mist City front, the Brown Forest front managed by the Ference Duchy and the Crimson Frontline managed by the Villa Duchy would also need to coordinate their actions.

Therefore, before making a move at Mist City, they needed to confirm plans with these two duchies. It wouldn’t do for them to start fighting while the other two fronts were still in the dark.

Beyond this matter was the question of the front’s supreme commander, and on this point, there was disagreement.

Some believed the Crown Prince should remain as supreme commander, while others hoped the more experienced Gushan Count would take the role. There were even some who suggested Ronin.

The reason Ronin was even in the running was mainly due to the staggering impression he had made at the wedding, earning him some admirers who were drawn to power.

A few days later, the general arrangements were settled. The special envoys of the noble families stationed in Golden Feather City returned to their respective territories, carrying the Royal Family’s final mobilization order.

Meanwhile, Bruno was personally writing a letter to be sent to Red Pine Castle.

For this war, Garrett was to be the supreme commander, Gushan Count the deputy commander, and Ronin would serve as a military advisor.

But before the letter was finished, Mel entered his study carrying a letter from Gushan Count.

After reading it, Bruno’s expression grew solemn. A long moment later, he sighed, "Garrett... what a fool!"

Bruno knew his son’s personality well. To ease the conflict between him and Ronin, he had been speaking with Garrett frequently, trying to get him to change his attitude toward Ronin.

To the Oduin Kingdom, Ronin was a sharp sword that should be wielded properly.

For that reason, even minor conflicts could be conceded.

He just hadn’t expected Garrett’s personality to be so extreme. Not only had he not taken his words to heart, but he had gone and actively caused trouble for Ronin at the front.

He shifted his gaze to the second half of the letter, where Gushan had detailed Ridder’s strength.

This previously unknown Knight was actually Proud Sun Level!

’That means there are two Proud Sun Level experts at the front!’

While it was true that Ronin’s faction posed a potential risk to the Royal Family, their common enemy was now outside: the Tricia Kingdom.

At least for now, Ronin and Ridder were two very advantageous swords for Oduin.

After a long moment of contemplation, Bruno lifted his pen and crossed out what he had previously written.

He took out a clean sheet of paper and began to write again.

This time, he appointed Gushan as supreme commander and Ronin as deputy commander under the pretext of learning and adapting. As for his son, Garrett, he recalled him to Golden Feather Palace under the guise of "having important matters to discuss."

The ink on the letter gradually dried. A complex mix of emotions flickered in Bruno’s eyes.

He knew full well that this decision concerned not only the outcome of the war but also the internal stability of the Kingdom and the future of the succession.

’Pushing Gushan Count into the position of supreme commander is a consideration for the bigger picture. Letting Ronin participate as his deputy is a chance to further observe and utilize this powerful War General.’

’It’s also a way to protect Garrett, to prevent him from making an irreversible mistake out of impulse.’

’Fortunately, Garrett always obeys my orders.’

Bruno calculated inwardly.

He was recalling Garrett this time not only to have him study the art of governance but, more importantly, to have him learn how to work with the powerful. He needed to understand that the true way of a king was not just about military conquest but also wisdom and magnanimity.

He sealed the letter and handed it to Mel. "Have Matt take this back to Red Pine Castle and present it to Garrett."

While discussions were underway in Golden Feather Palace, Carlos had been circling Watchtower Castle for several days straight.

Its massive shadow was like a dark cloud, constantly looming over the castle below.

Viscount Placido, clad in black Armor, had barely slept for two days. He felt as if a sword was hanging over his head, ready to strike him down the moment he let his guard down.

"Dammit!"

He walked onto the ramparts and looked up at the huge black shadow in the sky, unable to hold back a curse.

"My dear sister, how are your preparations coming along? Are you confident you can deal with this Giant Dragon?"

Melis, dressed in a magnificent blue Magic Robe, looked somewhat weary. "Everything that can be prepared has been. The Magic Energy Arrows and Long Spears, the Magic Energy Cannons, and the Magic Scrolls are all ready."

She spread her hands helplessly as she spoke. "But brother, you should know that the initiative is in their hands. We can only defend passively. And to be honest, I don’t think the extra equipment and personnel the Kingdom has given us are enough to fend off this Giant Dragon, or that young Proud Sun Knight from West Wind Hill."

"Sigh... We have to hold them off, whether we can or not!"

Placido’s face was resolute. "The Carmen Clan’s assets are all here. If we lose this place, we’re finished!"

"Forgive me for being blunt, but it would be best to transfer the assets out as soon as possible."

Just then, the low sound of a Horn echoed from the ramparts, making both of them jump.

Placido instinctively glanced at the Giant Dragon in the sky, but it showed no signs of attacking.

He couldn’t help but yell, "Who’s blowing the Horn without orders? Do you have a death wish?"

"My Lord Viscount, we have a situation!"

One of the Guards ran down from the ramparts and reported, "People are coming from West Wind Hill!"

Placido grew flustered. "Are they attacking?"

He hadn’t received any news of an impending attack. Logically, he should have received internal intelligence first.

"No, it’s not that. There are only six of them."

Placido froze for a moment, then strode quickly up to the ramparts to see what was happening.

Sure enough, at the bottom of the slope in front of Watchtower Castle, six people on horseback were slowly approaching.

"Who are they? What do they want?"

Placido was extremely puzzled.

"Sir, should we fire on them?" one of the Guards asked.

"Not yet! With only a few people, they can’t be here to attack us."

Placido quickly stopped him. "However, have everyone prepare our defenses, but do not act rashly!"

Even though there were only six of them, the Giant Dragon was still in the sky.

Instantly, a tense mobilization began throughout Watchtower Castle.

Soldiers rolled out all the Magic Energy Cannons. The mid-to-Advanced Level Wind Attribute Knights all took up their Longbows, nocking Magic Energy Arrows.

The Mage Squad also took their positions, taking out their Magic Scrolls.

By the time they were more or less ready, Ronin, Ridder, and the others had arrived at the foot of Watchtower Castle.

Placido was about to shout a challenge when he saw a folded piece of paper gently float up toward the top of the ramparts, finally hovering right in front of him.

"This...!"

Placido’s eyes widened.

His sister, Melis, cried out in shock, "There’s a Magic Master among them!"
