Chapter 436: Chapter 436: She’s a Bad Turtle
Renee Jennings laughed. "So, you have a strong impression of me because we can talk to each other?"
"That’s right!" Potato snuggled against her, rubbing his head on her affectionately. His meow even took on a cute, high-pitched tone.
Seeing this, Serena Tucker feigned anger. "You rebellious son! Ditching your own mother the second you see a pretty lady, are you? And you’re even using that cutesy voice!"
Potato explained with a meow, "I want my mommy too! I’ll look for my mommy when we get home!"
Renee Jennings, amused by the cat, nuzzled her cheek against his fur. "So cute. Potato, how can you be so adorable?"
Serena Tucker turned to Sylvia Brooks and Michelle Fuller to complain. "Look at him! At home, he acts like a little king, but when we’re out, he suddenly knows how to sweet-talk other girls."
Michelle Fuller heard this and said cheekily, "Potato, come sweet-talk me, too."
Serena Tucker was instantly exasperated.
Hearing the pretty lady’s summons, Potato immediately turned his head. "That lady likes cats, too."
"She does," Renee Jennings nodded. "Do you want to go over and sweet-talk her?"
"Yes, yes!" Potato immediately bobbed his head up and down, his bright cat eyes looking toward Michelle Fuller with anticipation.
Renee Jennings supported his chubby little body and handed him to Michelle Fuller. "Here you go. Potato says he wants to sweet-talk you."
"Yay, yay!" Michelle Fuller chirped, taking him with a grin.
Potato went limp in her arms, shamelessly showing off his cute side and begging for pets.
Both amused and annoyed, Serena Tucker said, "Look at you, being so shameless!"
Potato didn’t think he was being shameless at all. In fact, he was loving it.
During lunch, Serena Tucker smiled. "Do you guys have any plans this afternoon? If not, afternoon tea is on me."
"Nope," Sylvia Brooks said. "Their main job today is to keep me company."
"Perfect." Serena Tucker gave a thumbs-up. "Then my job today is to accompany all of you. I’ll book us a place for afternoon tea right now."
Serena Tucker finished booking their afternoon tea. Just as she set down her phone, it rang. The caller ID read: Riley.
"I need to take this," Serena Tucker said, answering the phone with a smile. "Riley, what’s up?"
The moment he heard that name, Potato, who had been playing with a toy, whipped his head around, suddenly alert.
’Riley! It’s her again!’
’Damn it!’
As if struck by a thought, Potato abandoned his toy and scurried toward Renee Jennings on his four short legs. "Renee! Renee, pick me up!"
Hearing the little guy, Renee Jennings bent down, scooped him up, and stroked his fluffy head. "Potato, what’s wrong?"
Potato hurriedly tattled, "Riley is a bad turtle-turtle! Renee, quick, tell Mommy not to play with Riley, okay?"
Renee Jennings blinked. She glanced at Serena Tucker, who was still on the phone, before asking curiously, "Potato, why would you say that?"
Potato said, "That Riley said she wants to be good turtle-turtles with Mommy, but she’s a bad turtle-turtle!"
Renee Jennings lowered her voice. "What did she do?"
Potato meowed, "Riley always secretly uses her phone to record Mommy when she’s changing, and she also steals Mommy’s pretty sparklies."
Hearing this, Renee Jennings’ slender eyebrows slowly drew together, her expression turning grave. "Potato, are you telling the truth?"
"Yes!" Potato nodded emphatically. "This cat saw it with his own eyes!"
"Okay." Renee Jennings patted his head. "I’ll tell your mommy."
She glanced over at Serena Tucker. The person on the other end of the line seemed to be inviting her somewhere.
Serena Tucker said diplomatically, "Oh, that’s such a shame. I’ve actually made plans with some other friends for afternoon tea today. Let’s reschedule for another day!"
"Huh?"
After hearing whatever the other person said, Serena Tucker frowned, looking troubled. "Riley, let’s just plan for next time. The friends I’m with today are all people you don’t know, and I’m worried you’d feel awkward or bored."
Serena Tucker’s brow was furrowed as she fell silent.
She bit her lip and said resignedly, "Riley, I have to ask my friends if they mind first. If they’re not comfortable with it, then let’s just meet up by ourselves next time, okay?"
After hanging up, she pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration.
’This Riley... her enthusiasm is really too much to handle.’
"What’s all that about?" Sylvia Brooks asked curiously. "Someone asking you out?"
"Remember Rosalie Young, the one I told you about?" Serena Tucker sighed. "She wanted to meet up, but when I told her I already had plans, she insisted on joining. Sometimes, being too enthusiastic is just a nuisance."
"Definitely," Sylvia Brooks agreed with a nod. "She doesn’t even consider whether it’s convenient for other people or if it’s putting them in an awkward spot."
"Exactly," Serena Tucker said, completely exasperated. "But she’s a nice person, really. She’s just completely oblivious and can never take a hint."
Hearing this, Renee Jennings spoke softly, "Serena, how long have you known her?"
"Hmm... about three months, I think?" Serena Tucker said. "She’s a friend of a friend. We met at a get-together."
Renee Jennings nodded, then asked, "Has she been to your place?"
"She has," Serena Tucker said, glancing at Potato, who was nestled in Renee’s arms. "After we got closer, she started coming over pretty frequently. Sometimes she’d even show up unannounced."
"Renee, what is it?" Sylvia Brooks asked, sensing something was off. "Is there a problem with Serena’s friend?"
At these words, Serena Tucker’s eyes widened in surprise. "Wait... what’s that supposed to mean?"
"Renee wouldn’t ask about a stranger without a reason," Sylvia Brooks said. "She’s not the gossiping type."
"Renee, what did Potato say earlier?" Michelle Fuller had been wanting to ask ever since she saw the change in Renee’s expression.
Renee Jennings stroked Potato’s head, her clear, sweet voice now tinged with gravity. "Potato told me to warn Serena not to be friends with Rosalie Young."
"Why?" Serena Tucker asked instinctively.
"Potato says he saw Rosalie Young secretly taking photos of you while you were changing clothes, and that she also steals your ’pretty sparklies’."
The moment she heard this, the color drained from Serena Tucker’s face.
She had almost no doubt about what Renee Jennings was telling her.
"She’s that sick?" Serena Tucker’s voice grew angry. "I treated her like a friend, and she’d do something like this?"
Sylvia Brooks was furious as well. "Stealing diamonds, at worst, you just lose diamonds. But secretly taking pictures of Serena changing her clothes? That’s just going way too far!"
"Yeah, that’s horrible!" Michelle Fuller was disgusted. "You really do have to be careful about who your friends are!"
Serena Tucker was livid. "I can’t believe this! And to think I actually thought she was a nice person!"
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. "How could she be so twisted? What the hell was she planning to do with pictures of me changing?"
Just as she was fuming, a message from Rosalie Young popped up: "Yara, what’s the word? I’m already changed and ready to go whenever!~"
Serena Tucker stared at the message and sneered. She was just about to tear into her when she suddenly heard Renee Jennings’ voice.
"Why not let her come? You can confront her in person," Renee Jennings suggested. She had a feeling Rosalie Young wouldn’t have secretly filmed Serena Tucker without a reason. "By the way, which friend introduced you two?"
