The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1052: Just Watch

Chapter 1052: Chapter 1052: Just Watch

"If they manage to lock me up and control me, then they can technically use me to indirectly control the actions of the Beast King." Bai Xifeng chuckled softly, her eyes flashing with a dangerous light. "But then again, who says I will be an easy person to control?"

Ji Yuan quietly looked down at the fiercely smiling girl standing before him. Despite the immense, world-threatening danger of the situation gathering outside, there was not the slightest trace of fear or panic anywhere in her eyes. Instead... she looked almost eager and excited to see exactly who dared to come and try their luck.

After several moments of profound silence, Ji Yuan finally spoke up again.

"Do not worry." Ji Yuan’s deep voice was entirely calm, but it carried a sense of unquestionable, absolute certainty. "I will not allow anyone to harm a single hair on your head."

His protective gaze shifted away, looking toward the distant, stormy horizon. "I will protect both of you."

"Thank you, Teacher Ji." Bai Xifeng smiled sincerely up at him, feeling a wave of warmth.

Neither of them spoke another word after that. They simply remained standing side-by-side beside Baihu throughout the entire night, silently guarding the little tiger as the hours ticked away.

As the pale light of dawn gradually arrived over the horizon, Baihu still showed absolutely no signs of completing his breakthrough. Instead, the situation grew more intense. The spiritual qi surrounding his tiny white body became increasingly violent, erratic, and heavy.

The dense, ambient spiritual energy continuously spiralled toward him like a massive vortex, forming enormous, visible whirlpools right above the canopy of the bamboo forest. Even the thick surrounding bamboo stalks began swaying and bending violently from the sheer pressure, despite there being absolutely no wind blowing through the courtyard.

Several hours later... thick, unnatural dark clouds suddenly began to gather directly overhead. The previously clear, bright blue morning sky was rapidly swallowed up by darkness.

Boom...

A deep, ominous rumble echoed heavily across the vast heavens.

Bai Xifeng slowly raised her head to look at the sky. Above Baihu’s resting position, layers upon layers of pitch-black, suffocating tribulation clouds had already fully formed. Brilliant, jagged arcs of silver lightning flashed continuously within the swirling clouds, brightly illuminating the gloomy, darkened sky below.

"So..." Bai Xifeng subconsciously rubbed her chin, a strange look entering her face. "The heavenly tribulation is finally here after all."

She suddenly remembered a certain familiar, bratty figure from her past experiences. "The Tribulation Lightning Boy..."

For a brief, reckless second, she genuinely considered flying up into the clouds to meet him again face-to-face. Perhaps she could casually ask him to be a little bit gentler on her cub this time around. However, after thinking carefully about his volatile personality, she immediately abandoned that highly dangerous idea.

"...Forget it," Bai Xifeng murmured, shaking her head repeatedly to clear her thoughts. "If I go up there looking for that little brat, he will probably take it personally and make the lightning bolts even stronger just to spite me."

She still clearly and vividly remembered how completely unreliable he had been before. That boy’s promises absolutely could not be trusted under any circumstances.

At that exact moment...

BOOM!!

A deafening, earth-shattering explosion shook the very heavens above them. The first massive bolt of heavenly lightning was already crackling, preparing to descend from the sky.

"I will quickly create a defensive, protective array..." Bai Xifeng instinctively stepped forward, her hand reaching for her brush.

Before she could even finish speaking her sentence, Ji Yuan reached out a hand and firmly stopped her. "Do not interfere."

"But... what if Baihu gets completely obliterated and killed by the raw heavenly lightning?" Bai Xifeng looked back at him in complete confusion.

"He would not be. A Beast King’s single strongest elemental affinity... is lightning itself." Ji Yuan calmly shook his head, his face perfectly serene. He looked up toward the churning dark clouds above the forest. "The heavenly tribulation is not actually trying to destroy his life. It is actively tempering his body and awakening his royal bloodline. The more raw lightning energy he successfully absorbs into his meridians right now... the greater the evolutionary benefits he will receive in the end. So, let the lightning strike him."

"I understand." Bai Xifeng slowly nodded her head, absorbing the logic.

She reluctantly took a step back, clenching her fists. The two of them silently watched the dark, crackling sky.

BOOM!!

The very first bolt of heavenly tribulation lightning finally tore down from the thick clouds. A massive pillar of brilliant, blinding silver lightning crashed directly onto Baihu’s tiny, exposed body. The entire bamboo forest shook violently from the sheer impact, dirt and leaves flying everywhere into the air.

....

At the exact same time... far away from the forest, outside the main gates of Tianlong School.

Experts and powerhouses from countless ancient sects, influential royal clans, and hidden organisations had already fully gathered before the school’s grand entrance. Every single pair of sharp, greedy eyes was fixed intently upon the enormous, shimmering protective barrier currently surrounding the entire academy grounds.

Even though Tianlong School was technically merely an academy meant to nurture young, up-and-coming cultivators, everyone present in the crowd knew very well that there was an unfathomably powerful, terrifying expert protecting the institution from the shadows. Under normal, everyday circumstances... none of them would ever dare to openly provoke or offend Tianlong School.

However... today was entirely different. The legendary temptation standing right before them was simply far too great to ignore.

A true Beast King. Whoever successfully obtained and bound it could potentially change the entire balance of supreme power throughout the cultivation world overnight. Compared to a monumental, world-changing opportunity like that... the immense risks of attacking the school suddenly seemed completely worth taking.
