Chapter 1595: Harvest (II)
Li Ximing turned the ring over and over in admiration. Meanwhile, Li Zhouwei produced another treasure. Brilliant multicolored light shone from it like a crystal, dazzling enough to make Li Ximing's eyes light up.
"Now we've finally made up for the loss of that spirit item. Otherwise, I really wouldn't have known how to explain it to Wan'er!"
It was none other than the [Whole Pill] spirit item [Sixfold Ceremonial Colors]!
This was no ordinary treasure. It was mentioned in the [Golden Book of Singular Attunement] and was far rarer than the [Nine-Colored Profound Mercury] of years past. A treasured item of the [Whole Pill] Dao, it could aid transformation techniques, and if forged into a spirit artifact, its effects would be even more wondrous!
The sight filled Li Ximing with both joy and regret. Human desires were never easily satisfied, and he could not help sighing. "To think it's such a marvelous spirit item! If the [Nine-Colored Profound Mercury] were still around, this could have been saved for her after she reached the Purple Mansion Realm and used in artifact refinement. It would likely have elevated her divine ability to an entirely new level... What a pity!"
Li Zhouwei merely smiled, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. "It's rare for everything to work out perfectly. Let's just see how things unfold."
These were all treasures he had acquired relatively early. After a brief pause, he produced yet another mysterious box and gently lifted its contents, revealing a streak of white light.
Inside lay a piece of water-gold about the length of a finger. It emitted a brilliant golden radiance filled with shifting colors, like misty, dreamlike fog. A dense layer of dark-blue water qi lingered beneath it.
"A [Converging Water] spirit item!"
This white light was the treasure Li Zhouwei had seized from Helian Wujiang. His luck had been exceptional. Even if it had not turned out to be a spirit material, it was still a genuine spirit item. The thought made him smile.
"The only problem is that our family lacks a Converging Water Dao lineage, so we can't identify it... Still, that's hardly difficult to solve. I've become acquainted with Daoist Nun Xiangchun, so I'll simply send her a letter and ask."
[Converging Water] was one of the manifest Daos of the present age and one of the few Great Daos that had remained continuously visible from ancient times until now. Spirit items aligned with it were never particularly rare. Although the conditions within the grotto heaven were somewhat different, treasures of this Dao were still plentiful.
Li Zhouwei found nothing surprising about that. Li Ximing, however, could only sigh as he said, "No wonder everyone fights so desperately for opportunities like this. Just these five spirit items alone would take me several hundred years to gather on my own..."
Li Zhouwei interrupted, "But that's not all!"
He removed the [Supplementary Court Verdant Profound Cauldron] and placed it into Li Ximing's hands with great seriousness. "This is the [Supplementary Court Verdant Profound Cauldron]. Its combat power isn't particularly impressive, but its supportive abilities are exceptional. It can refine spirit water using spirit items as ingredients. In terms of its mystics, it surpasses the vast majority of spirit artifacts in existence today! Only a place like the Wanlin Grotto Heaven could produce a treasure of this caliber..."
As Li Ximing examined the cauldron, Li Zhouwei's gaze drifted toward the purple-gold profound mace and the Radiant Fire spirit treasure. He said, "These two treasures are both exceptional, one among the finest spirit artifacts and the other a spirit treasure. While I'm recovering from my injuries, I'll have to trouble you to refine them for me..."
Li Ximing readily agreed with a smile. "I still have a jade talisman waiting to be refined as well. That's three treasures altogether, so it'll take quite some time... Still, it's the sort of work I gladly welcome. Opportunities like this won't come often in the future."
Li Zhouwei burst into laughter. Reaching into his sleeve, he produced another object and displayed it in his upturned palm. It was a palm-sized golden jade fragment, faintly curved and covered in flickering patterns. The sight left Li Ximing staring in disbelief. "There's more?!"
The golden-eyed young man merely smiled and replied, "That's right!"
With a flick of his wrist, the jade fragment flipped through the air and suddenly dissolved into a stream of golden light. It stretched and lengthened like flowing water in the air. By the time it settled back into his hand, it had become a golden spear roughly three meters long.
The spear was exceedingly strange. Its entire surface was perfectly smooth, without the slightest engraving or ornamentation. There were no decorative contours, and even the spearhead flowed seamlessly into the shaft. At first glance, it looked remarkably unremarkable.
Li Zhouwei said with a trace of regret, "This is also a spirit artifact called [Descending Light Unified Spear]. There were six of them in a complete set. When they flew out, I only managed to seize one. Without the full set, its power isn't especially impressive, though it's still useful enough."
"[Descending Light Unified Spear]..."
Li Ximing looked somewhat surprised. Meanwhile, Li Zhouwei's tone carried unmistakable admiration as he explained, "This artifact was forged from a [Xiao Metal] spirit item. To fully express Xiao Metal's wondrous nature of existing beyond cause and effect, free and unrestrained, its creator deliberately inscribed no profound patterns whatsoever, pushing the properties of [Xiao Metal] to their absolute limit...
"As a result, the artifact is quite unique. It possesses no particularly powerful divine ability, and it travels through the great void rather slowly. However, it has an extraordinary resistance to spell arts and is exceedingly difficult to predict or target through divination. If all six spears are gathered together, they even manifest the mystic of [Unbound by Cause and Effect]..."
"Remarkable!"
The forging philosophy behind it was highly unusual, completely at odds with the modern trend of pursuing ever more profound patterns and mystics. Li Ximing listened thoughtfully and nodded repeatedly. "The ingenuity of the Douxuan cultivators truly opens one's eyes!"
The [Descending Light Unified Spear] was naturally far better suited to Li Zhouwei, and thus Li Ximing pushed it back for him to keep. Only then did Li Zhouwei begin sorting through the final spoils from the Palace of Radiant Fire.
Setting a gorgeous deep-red jade slip on the table, he said with a faint smile, "An ancient Radiant Fire technique, the [Scripture of Refulgent Firelight]. Its divine ability is the [Ninefold Seizure]!"
Li Ximing took it and examined it carefully before sighing. "Jiangqian's Dao lineage finally has its foundation!"
Seated nearby, Li Zhouwei poured spirit water over the lingering flames on his body to extinguish them and nurture his wounds as they healed. "There's more to it than just that. Though it's an ancient art, it's exceptionally profound. It was created during the era when the Purple Mansion Golden Core Dao was first being established. Its principles are obscure, difficult to comprehend, and place great emphasis on preserving one's life. The mysteries within are considerable. Anyone who cultivates this art would likely find it difficult to later turn toward the Heavenborn Devil Dao...
"More importantly, the secret techniques within the grotto heaven are usually kept in the hands of individuals of extremely high status, preserved through methods I still don't understand. Yet whoever ruled the Palace of Radiant Fire was either one of those privileged figures, or someone who answered to no one above them. After all, three secret techniques had been attached directly to the inheritance!"
In Li Zhouwei's judgment, the palace had not been located at the center of the mountain range but rather toward its outskirts, making the latter possibility more likely. He quietly filed the thought away before changing the subject.
"Taken together, this means our family can allow truly talented descendants to cultivate this art. Their chances of breaking through to the Purple Mansion Realm should be quite respectable."
Li Ximing nodded repeatedly as Li Zhouwei opened two jade boxes he had obtained alongside the scripture. The first contained crimson spiritual qi, and was precisely the [Layered Radiance Bright Rite Qi] required by the [Scripture of Refulgent Firelight]. This jade box contained nine portions of it.
The second box was even more dazzling. Inside lay five gemstones, each about the size of a pigeon's egg. Waves of Radiant Fire qi immediately rushed out to fill the room. Every gem was brilliantly luminous and of exceptional quality. Four of the gems were crimson; however, the one in the center shone with a bright golden hue.
"The ones around the edge are the Purple Mansion Realm spirit material [Crimson Light Radiant Amber]..."
Li Zhouwei studied them briefly. The central gem was likely a spirit item, though he could not identify it. His thoughts began to wander, It almost seems as though everything was prepared in advance for the Dao lineage to be inherited... Could they have foreseen the fate awaiting Wanlin Heaven and deliberately stored away the necessary spiritual qi? What a pity I didn't have time to visit the other side hall. Otherwise, I might have obtained a Radiant Fire spirit artifact as well...
The [Scripture of Refulgent Firelight] contained methods for gathering qi, cumbersome though they were. Whether they still functioned after all this time remained uncertain. Yet the preparations left behind by the palace's owner suggested someone deeply concerned about spiritual qi dissipating after great changes befell the world. More than that, they seemed to understand that while Wanlin Heaven might endure for a long time, it had no true future...
Several thoughts passed through his mind until Li Ximing let out a long breath and said with a smile, "After all this, we finally have enough spirit materials to forge spirit armor!"
Li Zhouwei had not expected him to still be thinking about spirit armor. He froze for a moment before watching his granduncle tuck the materials into his sleeve. In the end, he could only smile and accept it. "I'll be troubling you again, granduncle."
The remaining items were harder to evaluate. Waving him off, Li Ximing accepted the silver bell spirit embryo of the [Stored Metal] Dao, clearly in excellent spirits.
"Senior Liu has been watching over us from the Eastern Sea all this time, and we've never truly had anything worthy to repay him. This [Stored Metal] spirit embryo is more than sufficient. He'll certainly be delighted, and perhaps he'll be even more willing to lend us a hand in the future..."
Li Ximing also examined the remaining eight sticks of golden-patterned profound incense, but could make little sense of them. He suspected only experts from the Douxuan Dao lineage could identify their origins. Unfortunately, both Crimson Reef Island and Changxiao Gate maintained poor relations with the Li Family, each worse than the last. After some thought, the only relatively neutral option seemed to be the Capital Immortal Dao.
While he was still considering the matter, Li Zhouwei prepared to enter seclusion to heal his injuries and offered a reminder. "As for that spirit treasure... Granduncle, make sure to refine it first. It may very well resonate with the [Scripture of Refulgent Firelight]."
Li Ximing nodded repeatedly as he escorted him out. "Leave all the miscellaneous matters to me. Focus on recovering. I'll take care of everything."
Yet once they reached the forested slopes, Li Ximing saw the young man suddenly remember something.
Li Zhouwei turned back, his brows bright with pride and his eyes shining as he said with a smile, "As for Helian Wujiang... I've avenged you too, granduncle!"
