Chapter 686: Rain of Spears
Translator: Halcyon Translations Editor: Halcyon Translations
This was the set up that players usually followed in a dungeon.
When they come across a new monster, they would send someone to scout it out and come back with some information in order to come up with the right way to deal with it.
Lu Li did not stop him because he was confident in his teammate.
Losing him would impact the dungeon run negatively, but he trusted in Cain's Left Hand's mechanics and game sense. In Ruling Sword, Cain was arguably within the top 3 Thieves in the guild. There were only a few that were better than him and they would constantly practice against one another to determine who was on top.
Since Lu Li was the number one Thief in the game, many of the top Thieves joined Ruling Sword to train under his guidance.
Cain's Left Hand aggroed the monster and stopped in his tracks as a few spears were thrown towards him. He also noticed that there were a few spears that had flown right past.
If he didn't react, then at least two spears would hit him directly. There were also three more spears being thrown from different directions, forming a triangle that would cut off his escape routes.
He tumbled and dodged the two spears coming directly towards him, but was hit by one that landed deep in his left shoulder.
-348HP!
The damage was a considerable amount; these were Lv40 monsters after all.
Lu Li was very pleased with Cain's performance because he did exactly what he would have done. Cain then immediately got up and charged towards the two Maraudine Scouts.
He had tested out their attacks, but hadn't tested our their Defense.
If he had used Gale Steps while he was being attacked before, he wouldn't have taken any damage. This showed that he still had some way to go as a monster scouter.
He activated his speed boost and appeared next to the monster almost immediately, then used Ambush.
His positioning was on-point because it allowed him to attack one of the monsters while blocking the others because he wasn't in line of sight. This way, only two monsters could attack him at once.
The Completion on his Ambush wasn't very high. At 71%, it dealt around 170 points of damage.
"We can defeat it. Should we go and clean them up?" Deep Watersong asked Lu Li after running the numbers through his head. Even though Water Fairy was his leader, Lu Li was clearly the commander of this dungeon run.
"Of course not – let's stealth past them. Cain, come back," Lu Li said.
Deep Watersong was confused with Lu Li's logic and reasoning, but he wasn't a whiny type of guy and did not argue against the call. However, he was still interested as to why Lu Li chose to make this decision.
Cain's Left Hand Stealthed away and the aggro on the Centaurs was reset.
When they crept past the group of Centaurs, Deep Watersong quickly realised why Lu Li had instructed them against fighting.
There were countless Centaurs in sight!
There were more than ten kinds of Centaur units all clustered around the same area. They were all in groups of more than 10, with some of them even huddled together in groups of 100.
However, no matter what type of unit they were, they all carried the same spear on their back.
There were five savage Centaur Tribes in Barrenlands that dominated all the other races with their sheer numbers and took control of the entire map.
Each tribe had their own individual leader who was revered and respected by the whole tribe. These tribes were differentiated by their colors – black, brown, green, red and yellow – which were marked on their weapons and their faces.
The tribal leaders would rarely interact with each other unless it was for a war.
The Centaurs that were guarding the door to entrance of Maraudon were all warriors that excelled at both long range and close combat. Their culture was built on a strong foundation of trampling over their enemies in wars. In the Centaur community, only the strongest and most vicious individuals could survive, which resulted in a race that could endure any hardship and overcome any obstacles.
This was why Lu Li wanted a team of Stealth players. It was impossible to get through the swarm of Centaurs by defeating them one by one.
Lu Li did not want to explore the dungeon and eventually get run over by a bunch of Centaurs.
If they were able to Stealth past these monsters, then none of this would be a problem to them.
The monsters here were all Lv40 and the players in the party were all at least Lv40. As such, the Centaurs were unable detect them.
With a guide that detailed the dungeon inside out, Lu Li quickly led them to the entrance.
There was a large statue here with a sinister expression that was lying down on the ground. When they saw it, a chill ran down everyone's spine. There was a group of monsters that patrolled the area, guarding over burial grounds of Zaetar.
"Clear out these monsters," Lu Li ordered.
Deep Watersong transformed from a Cougar to his Bear form and roared as he charged towards the Mauradine Priests.
Bear form was one of the many forms that a Druid could transform into. In Bear form, they were much tankier with increased Armor and HP, as well as many defensive skills to help them excel as a Main Tank.
It was impossible to complete a dungeon with a team full of Thieves. As such, Lu Li had brought along Deep Watersong and Hachi Chan who could both Stealth and provide utility.
The Maraudine Priests began summoning Mauradine Maulers to help them fight, but they were interrupted by a stun.
There were three Thieves, and all three used their Stuns on a different monster.
After a few seconds, the group of three Centaurs were defeated. With a healer and a Main Tank, they could easily take down groups of five to ten Centaurs without too much trouble.
There could only be so many monsters around the entrance of the dungeon and they were cleared out quite quickly.
Lu Li took out the dungeon pass in his inventory and ripped it in half. The eyes of the statue began glowing bright-red and its mouth slowly opened up.
"Let's go; this is the place. Remember to stealth," Lu Li said as he transformed into Cougar form and jumped in.
The others were creeped out about the way the dungeon entrance had opened, but followed Lu Li into the dungeon.
Lu Li instructed everyone to Stealth because they would encounter monsters as soon as they entered the dungeon. These monsters were the ghosts and spirits of the deceased Centaurs.
Even the dead continued to guard over the burial ground of their Demigod Father Zaetar.
This was something peculiar about their lore. The Centaurs killed Zaetar, who fathered the five Centaur tribes. However, they revered and worshipped him, built him a magnificent altar and guarded over his burial grounds.
