"They came looking for you?!" Jiang Guinong stared into the distance, a shiver running down his spine.
Two figures sped toward them from afar, like a pair of stampeding beasts. They kicked up long trails of dust, their momentum overwhelming.
"Who else would they be looking for?" Su Xuan, clad in a Daoist robe, stood tall and poised, his gaze fixed on the two approaching figures.
"Su Xuan, I will come for you again. Just you wait!"
Jiang Guinong had been brewing a killing move. At the cost of two years of his own life, it would have elevated his power enough to instantly defeat Su Xuan. But now, he decisively abandoned the thought. Leaving behind a vicious threat, he turned and fled!
He didn't even spare a thought for his martial-nephew, Wei Junhao!
Jiang Guinong's escape was incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, he vanished without a trace.
Su Xuan had no intention of pressing his advantage. His protective divine garment had temporarily lost its effect, and if a desperate Jiang Guinong turned to fight back, it would be troublesome. Besides, the battle had already cost Jiang Guinong dearly, and Su Xuan knew he couldn't catch up to someone so determined to escape.
He simply stood there quietly, waiting for the two figures to arrive.
He had a premonition… Those two were the subordinates from his dream!
THUD!
THUD!
The two figures soon rushed to a halt before Su Xuan and performed an extremely unusual gesture. They dropped to one knee, their fists clasped in a salute.
Moonlight spilled from the gray-black clouds onto the somewhat desolate farmland.
Su Xuan, still in his Daoist robe, stood accepting their homage. His expression betrayed neither surprise nor shock. The dream remained vivid in his mind, as if it had truly happened. Though the figures before him were as emaciated as corpses, he could still faintly recognize them. They were the two men in red armor from his dream!
HUFF!
CAW!
The two figures emitted strange noises from their mouths, as if greeting Su Xuan.
If they could speak, they would have uttered two words: "My Lord."
Without a word, Su Xuan glanced toward the hillside and raised his palm.
He summoned two sets of red armor, which landed before the two figures.
Upon seeing the armor, the two figures trembled, as if seeing a long-lost treasure returned to them.
Su Xuan gestured again.
The two blades he had just used against Jiang Guinong also landed before them, one still dripping with blood.
"Put them on," Su Xuan said coolly.
The two figures obediently donned the armor.
Su Xuan examined the two newly-armored Corpse Men, then waved his hand. "Follow me!"
"You two…"
Leading the two Corpse Men toward the hillside, Su Xuan went to check if the car was still drivable and if Wei Junhao was dead or alive. As they walked, he raised a hand to the two Corpse Men and asked, "Do you remember your names?"
The two Corpse Men looked bewildered.
Su Xuan pursed his lips. It seems they've forgotten much during their long years of burial. He then said, "I'll give you two names. Remember them."
After a moment's thought, he pointed at the taller one. "Your name is A'Hui." He then turned to the other. "And you will be A'Jia."
Together, their names formed the words "return home."
The two Corpse Men moved their lips, as if committing their new names to memory.
A moment later, Su Xuan and the two Corpse Men reached the car.
The car was riddled with holes from the explosion, its windshield completely shattered and the interior a chaotic mess. Fortunately, he had driven the electric car, so he wasn't too broken up about the damage.
He scanned the vicinity. There were spots of blood on the ground, but no sign of Wei Junhao.
He must have escaped on his own.
"Looks like the Ascension Pot isn't all that powerful after all!" Su Xuan scratched his head, muttering to himself, "Fifty million is a bit steep. I'll have to get Elder Qi to lower the price."
Afterward, he climbed into the car and tried the ignition. To his surprise, it started, but the front left tire was flat.
He looked around; there was no one in sight. With two Corpse Men in tow, calling for a ride wasn't an option.
"A'Hui!" Su Xuan got out and walked to the front of the car. He looked at the taller Corpse Man. "Can you lift this side?"
The Corpse Man named A'Hui immediately nodded. He planted himself in a horse stance, reached out, and actually lifted the corner of the car.
Su Xuan took the spare tire from the trunk and squatted down to change it himself, but the Corpse Man named A'Jia took the wheel from him, as if not wanting his master to do the hard work.
"You two are really something else."
Su Xuan had no choice but to teach A'Jia how to use the tools to change the tire.
Fortunately, the Corpse Men retained their wits and learned quickly, replacing the tire with ease.
Su Xuan did a quick cleanup of the car's interior and had the two Corpse Men get inside. "Alright," he said, "let's go home!"
GRK…
GAH…
Upon hearing this, the two Corpse Men made strange noises again. Su Xuan looked over and saw yellowish tears being squeezed from their dry eye sockets.
"Don't get me wrong." Seeing this, an unexpected pang of sorrow rose in Su Xuan, and he quickly explained, "By home, I mean my home in this world."
The two Corpse Men still seemed overjoyed to hear this. For them, it was as if finding Su Xuan was the same as coming halfway home.
Su Xuan drove the battered car, shakily making his way back.
"Master, who are these two… people?"
Butler Liu, who had not yet gone to bed, turned pale with shock at the sight of Su Xuan returning with two figures in red armor.
Their skin… it didn't look human! It looked like meat that had been cured for several years! He couldn't sense any aura from them at all; it was as if they were two dead men.
"Old Liu." Su Xuan slung an arm around the butler's shoulder and led him aside. "What if I told you that these two are actually unearthed cultural relics? They found me, followed me home, and now I'm their boss. Would you believe me?"
Butler Liu's eyes widened. "I don't believe it!"
"But it's the truth," Su Xuan said. "I'm not lying, so you have to accept it. I can't explain why they can move on their own. For now, just pretend you're having a nightmare."
Butler Liu snuck another glance at the two Corpse Men and took a deep breath, as if forcing himself to accept the situation. But the doubt in his eyes only grew thicker. After a long moment, he finally exhaled and asked, "They're terrifying. Isn't it unlucky to keep them in the house?"
Su Xuan shook his head. "Not unlucky, but exceptionally lucky. With them guarding the house, we won't even lose a single needle."
Butler Liu asked nervously, "Then what about me? Are you planning to have me retire?"
"Hah?" Su Xuan chuckled in disbelief, waving a hand. "From now on," he said softly, "you'll be their teacher. Help me manage them."
Butler Liu finally let out a sigh of relief.
Su Xuan brought Butler Liu over to the two Corpse Men and made introductions, making sure everyone was acquainted.
After the introductions were made and the commotion settled, Su Xuan returned to his room and called Zhong Huilan. He was still holding something in his hand…
