Chapter 61: Destroy the Base!

Azure Hawk moved with incredible speed, turning into a shadow that darted into the forest, his eyes filled with killing intent.

I have to drag the enemy out and make them suffer a painful death! Otherwise, the organization will never let me off the hook!

He was already deeply terrified of the organization's methods. With so many of his men down, he knew he couldn't withstand the organization's fury, even if he managed to find the enemy. His only hope now was to capture the enemy. Perhaps then the organization would show mercy and allow him to atone for his failure.

Azure Hawk was equipped with night-vision goggles, allowing him to see further in the dark.

The enemy was an exceptional marksman, with skills far surpassing those of his own men. What agitated him even more was that he didn't even know the enemy's numbers. This uncertainty left Azure Hawk deeply anxious.

You'd better pray I don't find you! Azure Hawk swore to himself as he began to search carefully through the dense forest.

Time slowly passed, and Azure Hawk grew increasingly anxious. Half an hour had passed, yet he still had no idea where the enemy was hiding.

He glanced around. They were not far from the base camp. If the enemy is targeting our base, they should have already entered it by now.

Therefore, the only plan was to lie in wait near the base and hope to land a fatal blow as they emerged.

RUSTLE!

Just then, Azure Hawk heard a strange noise. Looking in the direction it came from, he realized it was coming from inside the base. He was somewhat surprised.

The enemy seemed to be extremely familiar with the local terrain. His men had set many traps nearby, but the enemy hadn't triggered a single one.

Could it be an inside job? But that seems impossible. I know almost everyone in the base, and I'm confident none of them could do this. Besides, as far as I know, the base leader is replaced every three months, and the traps are reset. So, the location must have been leaked. Who could it be? Recently, Mole went out on a mission arranged by the higher-ups… Mole failed his mission and exposed this location! It must have been Mole!

Azure Hawk was certain. That meant he could roughly guess the enemy's identity. It's the target from Mole's mission… they've come for us!

Azure Hawk lay quietly behind a rock. To his left was a forest, and to his right, a ditch. The base camp itself was a cave dug into the mountainside. The enemy had three possible escape routes. But Azure Hawk remembered laying no fewer than ten traps by the ditch and countless mechanisms in the forest. That left only the path he was currently watching.

The enemy must have entered this way, too.

Azure Hawk prepared to lie in wait.

Two minutes later, a figure stealthily dashed out of the cave and ran towards the forest.

"Got you!"

Azure Hawk saw the figure clearly, and a cold smirk formed on his lips.

It seems the enemy has completed their mission and is preparing to leave. But they've chosen the wrong direction!

Azure Hawk slowly raised his sniper rifle, his scope sweeping quickly through the forest. The enemy was indeed quick, covering several hundred meters in the blink of an eye. Even Azure Hawk couldn't match that speed.

But soon, Azure Hawk's eyes lit up. The person had stopped. He remembered planting several landmines there. One more step and the enemy would trigger them.

So what if they've discovered them? They either have to change direction or press on.

But then, to Azure Hawk's shock, the person started moving forward again at a great speed. At this rate, they would be gone in a few minutes.

I can't wait any longer!

Azure Hawk knew that if he let the enemy escape now, finding them again would be impossible. He quickly chambered a round, aimed, and pulled the trigger.

BANG!

The sniper round, carrying Azure Hawk's rage and excitement, whistled through the air. It streaked several hundred meters in an instant, hurtling accurately toward the enemy's head. At this distance, Azure Hawk was confident he could get a headshot. The next moment, the bullet struck its target.

"Good!"

A thrill of exhilaration coursed through Azure Hawk. The shot was only at seventy percent of his usual skill, but at this range, and with the target's carelessness, it was a death they deserved.

However, a strange feeling crept into his heart. Something wasn't right, but for a moment, he couldn't pinpoint what it was.

The sound! That's it, the sound was wrong!

As an outstanding sniper, Azure Hawk was intimately familiar with the sound a bullet makes when it hits a human body. But the sound from that last shot... it wasn't the sound of hitting flesh. Instead, it sounded more like it had struck a tree trunk. An AWM round could certainly penetrate a body and hit a tree behind it, but this was the sound of a bullet striking wood directly, not flesh.

That left only one possibility. I missed!

How is that possible? A sniper round travels near or even faster than the speed of sound. How could anyone dodge that?

Azure Hawk's face grew pale, cold sweat streaming down his forehead. His gaze rapidly scanned the surroundings, but he found nothing.

This is bad. I have to get out of here!

Azure Hawk immediately decided to retreat. However, just as he started to rise, an emotionless voice reached his ears.

"Are you looking for me?"

Azure Hawk spun around and fired without hesitation.

BANG!

But this shot also missed. He saw a figure blur before him, easily dodging the bullet.

At such close range… how could he dodge a bullet? How is that even possible?

Despair filled Azure Hawk's eyes.

"To react so quickly with an attack, you have decent reflexes." The figure reappeared in the same spot. "I take it you're the one in charge here."

Azure Hawk's composure was impressive, but his voice still trembled as he asked, "Who on earth are you?"

"Who I am isn't important. What's important is that from this day forward, your base will cease to exist."

Lin Mu smiled faintly, and his Divine Soul suddenly surged out, enveloping Azure Hawk.

SNAP!

A sharp cracking sound echoed in Azure Hawk's mind. The next moment, his head drooped limply to the side. As he collapsed, his palm fell open, revealing a grenade he had failed to arm in time.

Glancing at Azure Hawk, Lin Mu gave a slight smile. His figure shimmered and vanished.

That night, some people in River City heard a distant, muffled explosion, and the ground trembled slightly, as if from an earthquake. This caught the attention of the relevant authorities, who rushed to investigate. Fortunately, it was later confirmed to be a false alarm, and the public was assured there was no cause for concern.

But behind the scenes, several theories began to circulate.

None of this had anything to do with Lin Mu. After destroying the Tea Mountain base, he returned directly to his villa.

There, two people were watching him with cold eyes.
