Traveler of the River of Time and Space

Chapter 39: Hunt III

The sound of dripping water came through.

As if they caught a whiff of something nearby, three humanoid creatures with dark green skin crawled out from the stinking garbage trench.

Water Ghosts.

Su Ziyu had dealt with these monsters before; they were relatively easy to handle.

Su Ziyu glanced and then said to Melissa, "You rest. Let them handle it."

What these female warlocks needed most now was to overcome their fear of battle and slaughter. Once they killed a few more monsters, they would gradually adapt.

At this moment.

Su Ziyu finally had time to closely observe the wealthy three sisters beside him.

In the world of Demon Hunters, a warlock's power stems from their own talent; only the qualified can learn and master casting abilities through training. Their Root Power is 'Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire.' Some exceptionally gifted individuals possess Chaos Energy, or Elemental Power, from birth. They believe all things initially birthed from the elements of Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire.

These individuals are called Source Mages.

However, Source Mages are quite rare, historically known as illustrious figures.

Warlocks can extract Magic Energy from the four elements— Air, Water, Earth, and Flame— for long-distance teleportation, healing, or slaughter. By merging these Elemental Energies, they can greatly extend their own lifespan, even changing their appearance to maintain a youthful and beautiful look.

In this aspect, it's a bit like the Eastern culture's Xianxia cultivation, but replacing the Elemental Power of Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire with Five Elements Spiritual Qi.

When Su Ziyu first heard about these from Lady Inid, he was quite surprised.

Generally, warlocks have a dominant Elemental Domain. Judy uses fire, Nicole uses water, and Mira uses earth, each utilizing different Specialized Abilities. Magic is merely a means of projecting Magic Energy; even without magic, they can directly use Elemental Energy to harm enemies, but the power is negligible.

The spell system in this world is not perfect, and Su Ziyu feels their legacy seems to have had a hiatus.

The battle ended quickly.

Lady Judy burnt a Water Ghost into charcoal with flames, Lady Nicole froze one into an ice chunk with ice, and Mira did it even more effortlessly by creating a quicksand on the ground.

Su Ziyu effortlessly finished off the Water Ghost trapped in the quicksand with a sword and said in a deep voice, "Let's go."

The starting point for warlocks is indeed very high.

With just a little more training, they could quickly make themselves useful.

As the group ventured deeper into the sewer system's interior, the faint scent of decay grew stronger.

As Su Ziyu suspected, ordinary monsters indeed could not provide a Source Power Value; he needed to find more dangerous enemies. Along the way, they encountered some mutated rats; Su Ziyu did not intervene at all, not because he wanted to slack off but because these simple enemies were perfect for the female warlocks to practice on.

"Eh?" While holding a map, Lady Elena suddenly said, "This passage seems to be missing from the map."

Su Ziyu went to take a look.

He found that this wide passage on the right was indeed absent from the map, appearing to have been excavated later. It wasn't clear where it led.

"Let's go in and see." Su Ziyu said.

Upon entering this passage, the group immediately felt a chill in the air; a faint smell of blood wafted on the wind, carrying with it eerie sounds.

Su Ziyu thought he heard bats.

Uncertain.

The distance was a bit far.

The environment here was quite dim, with some dark brown stains on the ground, as if something had clawed at the walls. After taking a glance, Su Ziyu said gravely, "Prepare for battle! Be alert to your surroundings!"

"There are Blood-sucking Beasts here!"

It was said that some vampires secretly bred Blood-sucking Beasts, releasing them into the sewers.

Su Ziyu hadn't expected that this rumor would turn out to be true.

Thud, thud, thud.

A series of fast-moving sounds emerged from the interconnected underground sewers. Shortly after Su Ziyu's words, seven or eight hideous and deformed figures leapt out. Their speed was swift, far exceeding the earlier Water Ghosts, and under the light, one could glimpse their grotesque heads, filled with sharp teeth. Their flat, disgusting faces resembled bats, their bodies bald and covered in dark sores.

"Careful! It's a Bat Demon!" Melissa shouted loudly.

A real battle doesn't give you much time to prepare. These Bat Demons quickly crawled along the sewer ceiling, launching attacks from above the female warlocks' heads.

One Bat Demon lunged at Su Ziyu.

This creature's speed was fast, though not as quick as a High Tier Vampire, it was superior to ordinary humans, with its dark green claws appearing quite sharp, and its gaping mouth aimed directly at Su Ziyu's throat.

Clang.

In an instant, Su Ziyu drew the Meteor Slash from his waist and severed one of the Bat Demon's arms, then thrust the sword into the Bat Demon's gaping mouth, its dark red blade protruding from the back of its head.

"Gained 1 Source Power Value."

This creature's Life Force was remarkably tenacious; though Su Ziyu had pierced its brain, its body hadn't died yet and still managed to twitch slightly, though it lost all mobility.

"Vampires are indeed difficult to kill!"

Su Ziyu finished off the Bat Demon by decapitating it. As he turned to look at the others, he frowned slightly.

The real skirmish had exposed the female warlocks' weaknesses.

They had difficulty aiming at the swiftly moving monsters in the darkness, a sign of inexperience. The best performers were Daisy and Alice; without a Mana Shield for protection, others might have already been injured.

"Looks like I can't rely on them to handle high-level vampires," Su Ziyu thought, shaking his head.

He swiftly leapt to assist Lady Nicole, throwing his black short blade mid-air that pinned the back of a Bat Demon attacking Lady Judy. These monsters had astonishing regenerative abilities, with surface burns from flames healing rapidly.

Though the female warlocks were a bit flustered, they were, after all, a team. After a round of magic bombardment, they managed to deal with three Bat Demons.

"Pay attention to their movements."

"They don't run; they climb and leap." Su Ziyu intercepted Lady Nicole by her slender waist, spinning her around in mid-air, then used his right hand to cleave open a Bat Demon's abdomen.

A flame descended.

The Bat Demon was rapidly consumed and thrashed around violently, until it turned into a pile of charcoal.

Su Ziyu gave Lady Judy a look of appreciation, immediately invigorating the female warlock.

Quick speed, strong recovery, strength surpassing adults, and a tendency to act in groups.

No wonder Demon Hunters disliked dealing with vampires, as even Low Tier Blood-sucking Beasts proved rather troublesome.
