Urban Carefree Warrior God

Chapter 35: Show Off

After entering the mall, Zhang Xiaowen planned to head straight for the men's section to pick out a fitting suit for Chen Yang and call it a day, but Yang Ting dragged her to the women's section against her will.

After trying on a pale yellow dress, Yang Ting twirled around twice in front of Zhang Xiaowen and giggled, "Xiaowen, what do you think of this one?"

"Hmm, it suits you well!" Zhang Xiaowen examined it seriously and finally nodded, but upon seeing the 96,000 price tag, she hastily shook her head. "That's so expensive! It's almost 100,000!"

Her monthly salary was only 8,000, meaning she'd need an entire year's wages just to afford this dress.

"Expensive? That's pocket change!" Yang Ting replied, feigning astonishment. She then gestured to a nearby sales assistant. "Wrap this up for me. And the other three outfits I tried on earlier—I'll take them all."

"Certainly, miss!" The sales assistant's smile bloomed instantly. The commission from this single sale would be substantial.

After completing the purchase, Yang Ting pointedly asked, "Xiaowen, I saw you eyeing that black dress for quite a while earlier. If you like it, just buy it! A woman should never shortchange herself."

"No, no!" Zhang Xiaowen waved her hands repeatedly. She did fancy that black dress, but at a price of over 110,000, she couldn't afford it even if she sold herself.

"Too expensive?" Yang Ting smiled. "Well, the clothes here certainly aren't cheap. Not just anyone can afford to shop here."

She knew it had been a mistake to ask this woman to come out. As irritated as she was, she couldn't help but envy the woman's good fortune. Yang Ting had been born into a wealthy family and then married a rich husband who reportedly worked for the Su family's young master, promising a limitless future.

Zhang Xiaowen sighed to herself. Some things can't be gained through envy; different people simply have different fates.

How could Yang Ting not see that her good friend was already unhappy? But instead of showing restraint, she forcefully dragged Zhang Xiaowen to the luxury goods area.

As for Chen Yang, he was completely ignored.

He was just a loser. Even glancing at him felt like an insult to her eyes.

Trying on a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace worth 180,000, Yang Ting asked Zhang Xiaowen again, "How does it look? Does it match that yellow dress I just bought?"

"It matches," Zhang Xiaowen replied helplessly, her answer mechanical.

"When you buy clothes, you have to buy a complete set," Yang Ting lectured while paying. "Necklaces, earrings, handbags... everything has to match!"

Of course, Zhang Xiaowen knew that. The problem was, she couldn't afford it!

Chen Yang, who had been loitering behind them, couldn't stand it any longer. "What is wrong with you?" he said coldly. "So you have a little money. Why are you showing it off? Do you only feel happy when others look at you with envy and jealousy?"

Yang Ting was taken aback, staring at Chen Yang in disbelief. Am I really being looked down upon by some worthless bum who only survives by marrying into a family?

"Heh..." Yang Ting laughed, her sneer undisguised. "That's right, I have a little money! I'm showing it off with my own funds, so what's it to you? As for you, acting so bitter... you must feel pretty terrible inside, right?"

"Alright, that's enough!" Zhang Xiaowen cut in. "Stop arguing. Let's go to the men's section, buy the suit, and leave."

"Fine!" Yang Ting readily agreed, staring at Chen Yang with a malicious glint in her eye. "Since you look down on my 'little bit of money,' let's see what level of clothing you can afford."

"Comfort is all that matters," Chen Yang replied nonchalantly.

"Tsk," Yang Ting scoffed. "Haven't even started buying yet and you're already preparing your excuses?"

Seeing that Chen Yang was about to say more, Zhang Xiaowen quickly stopped him. "She is rich, so it's normal for her to show off! If you were as rich as she is, you could show off too!" Honestly, this guy! Couldn't he just keep those thoughts to himself? Why did he have to say them out loud?

The group soon arrived at the men's clothing section. After that little episode, any mood Zhang Xiaowen had had to humiliate Chen Yang was gone. Now, she just wanted to buy the suit and leave as quickly as possible.

"Let's try this store," Yang Ting said with a smirk as they stopped in front of an extremely luxurious men's boutique. "My husband buys all his clothes here. The quality and styles are excellent, and I know the owner."

"But..." Zhang Xiaowen started to protest. She could tell at a glance that the items in this store were incredibly expensive. The 50,000 yuan Qin Qiu had given her might only be enough for a tie.

Before she could finish her sentence, Yang Ting pulled her into the store.

Chen Yang followed with a smirk. These kinds of games were utterly childish to him.

Yang Ting walked in as if she owned the place, casually instructing a salesperson to pull out three suits, five ties, three shirts, two belts, and three pairs of shoes.

Zhang Xiaowen's face turned pale. The items Yang Ting had selected started at over 100,000 each. A complete outfit would cost at least 250,000. How could they possibly afford that?

Zhang Xiaowen quickly pulled Yang Ting aside and whispered, "Yang Ting, the clothes here are too expensive. Let's find another store!"

"Can't afford it? How could that be?" Yang Ting raised her voice an octave, her mockery undisguised. "With all his big talk earlier, he must be worth tens of millions, right? How could he not afford a single suit?"

"Sales associate, take this gentleman to the fitting room." Yang Ting gave Zhang Xiaowen no further chance to speak, her demeanor imperious.

Zhang Xiaowen turned, ready to tell Chen Yang to leave, but he seemed completely unfazed and followed the associate to the fitting room.

This… Zhang Xiaowen was frantic, like an ant on a hot griddle. How were they going to get out of this mess?

The three suits all fit him perfectly. More importantly, wearing them transformed Chen Yang into a completely different person. He was dashing and formidable, exuding the peerless elegance of a nobleman as refined as jade.

For a moment, both Zhang Xiaowen and Yang Ting were stunned. He looked handsome, sharp, and full of vigor.

"Humph!" Yang Ting snorted, her tone sour. "No wonder he's able to live off a woman."

"Sales associate, he'll take all three suits. Pack them up!" Yang Ting declared decisively, cutting off all of Chen Yang's escape routes.

At this point, he had to buy them, whether he wanted to or not.

The associate played along perfectly. "Sir," she said to Chen Yang, "the total comes to 568,000. Will you be paying by card or with your phone?"

"One moment, please," Chen Yang said with a polite smile, taking out his phone. He was about to contact Yang Hu to transfer some money over. After marrying into the Qin Family, Chen Yang had entrusted all of his assets to Yang Hu for safekeeping. He'd never actually bothered to calculate the exact amount.

"It's just over half a million and you need to wait?" Yang Ting feigned astonishment. "Or is it that you don't have the money at all and are just looking for an excuse to get out of this?"
