Following after the kind humans who showed her the way inside the town, Scaly watched how they did their best to run as fast as they could with their weak strength in order to make sure they were in front of her to lead her properly.
Even though she had already spotted the entrance at this point in time, she still felt grateful towards these weak humans who did their best to help her while the stronger humans chasing after her were doing their best to try and kill her for no other reason than the fact that they wanted her beautiful scales!
Well… She could understand why they wanted her scales, but still! She didn't want them to kill her and rip them off her dead body!
"Ah!? Lizard!? The monster chased by the seniors is a lizard!"
"Eeek! I hate lizards!"
"Nooo! I just managed to kill the two twin slimes by myself! I can't die like this!"
"Those who are too slow will be left behind to buy more time for the others!"
As Scaly got close enough for the escaping humans to notice her, they all began panicking while increasing their speed beyond their former limits. Rushing towards the gate that was now only a few hundred meters away from the human in the front of the group.
"…"
Hearing all these things, Scaly realized that these humans weren't kindly leading her towards the gate leading into the city but were instead just running for their life thinking she was going to kill them.
Wait… Now that I think about it… If not for the fact that I'm being chased and can't waste any time, I probably would have killed all of these weak humans who can't even put up a proper fight…
Smiling a bit wryly to herself as she thought about this while she managed to catch up to the first of weak humans, Scaly shook her head as she ran straight past the human without attacking. Heading straight for the open gate that the rest of the weak humans were rushing towards.
Hoping that her sudden decision to rush into the human town would pay off in the sense that if there was a terrifying human inside the city, he or she wouldn't have enough time to react before she had already entered the town.
Given how dense it was from what little she could see of the town from a distance, Scaly was confident that she would be able to take advantage of her small body to hide. Especially considering that she doubted the humans would start tearing down their own city trying to find her.
If the humans really did start tearing down their own town in search of her, she could only consider it her bad luck and try to look for an opportunity to escape before they found her. At least, she would have bought herself a bit more time to try and figure out how to escape from the humans…
"What is that sound? Waking me up from my morning nap…"
At the same time Scaly and the large number of humans were rushing towards one of the gates located around the town, the guard in charge of guarding the gate opened his eyes still half asleep.
"Huh!? W-why is everyone coming here!?"
However, this didn't last for long, as he both his eyes soon flew open upon seeing the large number of both powerful and weak adventurers rushing directly towards him, the weaker ones looking fearful, while the stronger ones had the distinct look of greed that only reared its head whenever some precious treasure was involved.
"M-monster!"
Only a few seconds later, as the first few among the weaker humans rushed past him and into the town, did he discover Scaly, who was now only a little over a hundred meters away from him-
[Human, Random Guard NPC A, lvl 22]
Swish-!
Unfortunately, he was only a random npc far weaker than Scaly, standing no chance at stopping her, as she dashed straight past him a few seconds later. Officially stepping into a human town for the first time.
"Monster! There is a monster!"
"A monster made it into the town, quick, inform the guild and the guard captain!"
"No need! I will take care of it!"
"No, I will!"
However, she didn't have time to enjoy the bustling street that appeared in front of her, as all the humans inside started to panic, while a few of the stronger ones among them took the opportunity to step forward and face her.
[Human, Dungeon Merchant, lvl 7]
[Human, Tiger Warrior, lvl 31]
[Human/beastkin(bearkin), Greatsword Master, lvl 41]
[Human, Junior Baker, lvl 3]
[Human…]
So many humans! Luckily there aren't anyone as strong as that one human who almost killed me in the swamp….
Looking through all of the humans with a quick glance to determine if there was anyone who would be a threat, Scaly quickly determined the strongest among them to be a towering human who seemed to be a mix between a human and something called a beastkin.
Not even having to think twice, she decided to run in the opposite direction of this towering human. Rushing straight towards the junior baker who began screaming loudly before running to run-
Bang!
Only to run straight into a wall and fall to the ground unconscious.
This… Some humans are really dumb…
Ignoring the stupid human that had run straight into a wall, Scaly gracefully jumped over him before rushing through a crack that had grown just large enough for her to fit through after he had run into the wall. Soon finding herself in a rather deserted alleyway with no more than a handful of humans around.
"A lizard?"
"Not a lizard! It's a monster!"
"Monster!? A monster made it into the town!?"
"Ahhhh! Run!"
On a positive note, these humans didn't pose any threat to her, as they all turned to run when they spotted her and realized that she wasn't an ordinary lizard. Giving her enough time to take in her surroundings and look for a possible hiding spot.
Going inside the human dwellings… No… Will be found fast… squeeze into a corner out of sight? Not that either… human hunters will find me… Hm? Maybe the hole in the ground?
Going through several possible hiding locations, Scaly ultimately ended up focusing her attention on a hole in the center of the street that a panicked human had just emerged from before escaping like the rest of the human in the alleyway-
BANG!
Rumble~
Just as Scaly was contemplating whether or not to dive into the hole and hope that it wasn't just a dead end without any way out, a loud sound of something heavy smashing into the stone wall behind her reverberated through the alleyway before being replaced by the sound of the stone wall crumbling.
Hole it is!
Whoosh!
Not even having to think a second longer, Scaly rushed forward and jumped into the hole in the middle of the alleyway without a second thought. Not intending to stay long enough for the humans chasing after her to see where she was going.
Bang!
Not a second after she disappeared into the hole, the entire stone wall came crumbling down to the ground, as the massive human she had decided to avoid earlier appeared. Taking up most of the narrow alleyway as he looked around with a frown on his face after not seeing Scaly anywhere.
"It managed to escape?"
Appearing beside the massive human, another human who had chased after Scaly reluctantly muttered this upon seeing that there was no sign of her anywhere in the alleyway.
"Hmph!"
Not answering, the massive human just frowned before turning around to leave without saying anything.
"Talk about being moody… But a monster being loose inside the town is a big problem…" Shaking his head as he said this, the second human soon frowned as well.
For a monster to be loose inside the town was not only a problem because of the danger it posed to the weaker humans, but also because of the damage it might cause to the infrastructure of the town. Possibly ruining years of tireless effort on the side of the guild in establishing the town in a few short days.
"Someone should have already run off to inform the branch leader and the guard captain about the situation… I hope that they will find the monster before it starts causing any damage…" Muttering this to himself as he cast one last glance towards the empty alleyway, the second human walked past the large number of other humans rushing towards the alleyway to find the monster.
In the end, a few hours passed by quickly since Scaly had entered the human town, yet the greedy humans who had chased her all the way into the town had not managed to find her and could only give up. Leaving things in the hands of the higher ups, who were far more skilled in such matters.
