Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 192: Surrounded on All Sides

[Giant Mountain Rabbit, lvl 51]

[Description: A bigger and fiercer version of the mountain rabbit, known to be extremely caring towards the smaller mountain rabbits and will seek out revenge for anyone daring to slaughter them. Always hunts and moves in large groups. Best to avoid, as they can be far more dangerous than A Rank Monsters. The only positive about them is the fact that their meat is extremely delicious, even when compared to their smaller counterparts.]

Reading through the description of one of the monsters that came rushing down the mountain towards her filled with killing intent, Scaly could not help feeling a shiver run down her spine. Understanding that the goal of these bigger mountain rabbits was indeed her.

Even worse, she didn't see anywhere that she could escape to in her current state, as the mountain gnoll tribe was behind her, while the winged death raven was guarding the air and preventing her from gliding away.

I… I have nowhere to run…

Feeling increasingly worried as she thought about this to herself while looking up at the group of mountain rabbits that were charging down the mountain directly towards her, Scaly ultimately realized that she wouldn't be able to avoid a confrontation with the bigger mountain rabbits.

Even if she wanted to do so, there was nothing she could do. Instead, she decided to prepare herself and face off against the powerful group of giant mountain rabbits charging down towards her. Understanding that she might not be able to face off against them with her current strength.

Of course, this didn't mean that she intended on just giving up and laying down on the ground in defeat. Instead, she would do whatever she could to win against those mountain rabbits!

SQUUUEEEAAAK-!

R-Roooar~!

With that in mind, Scaly let out her most fearsome roar to date, as she gathered her mana in preparation for an attack-

Bzzzzt~

Soon enough launching her lightning magic towards the strongest among the giant mountain rabbits to take it out in a single move and also because she wanted to try and scare the mountain rabbits into not attacking her with an overwhelming show of power!

BOOOM-!

Squeak!

As the attack landed without any issues, Scaly was first overjoyed at how her speed in using the lightning magic had improved enough that it became far more difficult to dodge, but then shocked as she discovered that the mountain rabbit didn't die after being hit by her lightning magic.

This was the first time that her lightning magic hadn't ended up killing the one it hit, causing her to take a second glance at the giant mountain rabbit that her lightning hit.

[Giant Mountain Rabbit, lvl 73]

Not just was it above level 70, but it seemed like it was even stronger than the mountain gnoll lord from earlier… And given that it survived her most powerful attack, lightning magic, she understood that this wasn't an opponent that would be easy to deal with.

Of course, the most important thing was the fact that this powerful mountain rabbit wasn't alone and had the support of several other mountain rabbits that she would also have to fight.

If it was alone, she might have had the ability to kill it, as it wasn't entirely unharmed after being hit by her lightning magic. Even being forced to fall back and have one of the other mountain rabbits take the lead in charging towards her after freezing for a few seconds following her lightning magic hitting their leader.

But… At the end, it didn't really help me in dealing with the mountain rabbits and at most delayed them by a few seconds. Fighting them is impossible and escaping even more so…

Feeling a sense of helplessness washing over her as she looked up at the charging mountain rabbits before glancing down towards the escaping mountain gnolls being chased down by the winged death raven that would occasionally grab a few of them and drag them off the mountain, Scaly had no choice, as she readied herself again to face off against the approaching mountain rabbits-

Whoosh~!

Whoosh~!

Whoosh~!

And not a second later, she used her water magic to send several large water blades and water spears flying towards the approaching group of mountain rabbits. Intending on trying to kill off the weaker ones among them before focusing her attention on the stronger ones among them.

Ptsh! Ptsh! Ptsh!

[Gained 623 Exp]

[Gained 874 Exp]

[Gained…]

[*Ding* Reached level 22]

In the end, the barrage of water spears and water blades proved to be extremely useful, as Scaly not only managed to kill off a large portion of the weaker mountain rabbits below level 40, but also managed to increase her own level in the process.

Squeak…?

Squak!?

Squeaaak!

An unintended but welcome side effect being that the mountain rabbits confidently charging towards her came to a sudden stop following the massive magic attack. Hesitating on whether to continue forward or not, as the magic attack also ended up harming a lot of the mountain rabbits that didn't end up dying.

SQUEEEAK-!

Unfortunately for Scaly who started to get her hopes up after seeing this, the mountain rabbit that she had hit with her lightning magic earlier seemed to be holding a personal grudge against her, as it took the lead and made the rest of the mountain rabbits follow it in continuing the charge down towards Scaly.

It really had to turn out like this… But! I'm a dragon, so I shouldn't be afraid of a few small rabbits! Ehm… Although… Some of those rabbits seem to be larger than me…

Shaking her head as she felt her thoughts starting to wander while she was doing her best to encourage herself for the upcoming battle, Scaly was about to prepare herself to use her magic again. However, she quickly discovered that it was far too late for her to try and use her magic on a longer distance, as the first of the mountain rabbit had already managed to reach her position.

[Giant Mountain Rabbit, lvl 54]

Although not the strongest of the mountain rabbits, it was in no way weak, as she had to jump backwards to avoid getting hit by it.

Not that this ended up helping a lot, as the mountain rabbit just continued chasing after her trying to hit, while the rest of the mountain rabbits soon began joining in on trying to kill her. Ultimately forcing Scaly to give up on any kind of offense, as she focused her full attention on trying to stay alive under the constant and unending barrage of attacks launched towards her by the remaining mountain rabbits.

This… I can't keep this up forever. Not to mention, that mountain rabbit hasn't joined the battle yet!

Struggling to continue avoiding attacks and blocking those she couldn't dodge, Scaly could not help feeling increasingly helpless against the large number of mountain rabbits attacking her. Especially considering that the powerful mountain rabbit that should be no weaker and possibly even stronger than the mountain gnoll lord had not yet made a move. Having instead opted to observe the fight and wait for a perfect opportunity to strike after realizing that she couldn't fight back against the remaining mountain rabbits.

Clearly, the only way that this mountain rabbit would make a move was if she started killing the mountain rabbits she was fighting with or if it found a weakness that it could take advantage of to land a deadly blow on her.

No matter which of the two it was, it was bad for Scaly, as she had no way out of current situation and the mountain rabbits seemed to know this, as they took their time while fighting with her. Making sure to ensure their own safety even if it meant that the battle started to drag on for longer.

None of them seemed to be worried about the mountain gnolls and the winged death raven fighting a bit further down the mountain.

Maybe because they felt confident that the battle would end before any of them became a problem or maybe because they were certain that the death winged raven wouldn't interfere in their battle.

Considering that they had been living on the mountain together with the winged death raven so far, both seemed possible.

The only problem was that both would end up with her dying in the end. Not really something that she intended on happening, as she was still far away from becoming a truly powerful dragon and could at most be considered a newborn dragon at this point in time.

I must find a way out or a way to break free from the constant attacks of the mountain rabbits or I will end up being exhausted to death by them!

Narrowing both of her eyes as she thought this while looking at the dozens of mountain rabbits that had surrounded her on all sides, Scaly decided that only with a desperate move would she be able to get out of her current precarious situation!
