SSS Ranked Awakening: Starting With My Limitless Cosmic Shadow System

Chapter 0062: The Old Human Era

"You can tell me a way out of the abyss, and it has to do with bloodline?"

The old man nodded. "You—bloodline. Me, lead you out of abyss."

Modret's heart skipped a beat.

'This mysterious old man can tell that I possess a bloodline?'

He recalled that among the treasures he had obtained previously, one of them was a bloodline that even Noctis had praised back then.

The old man continued.

"Me make bloodline strong. You escape."

Hearing his words, Modret frowned once more.

"In essence, you can unlock the first stage of my bloodline, which can lead me out of the abyss?"

The primitive man nodded.

"How?" Modret was curious.

Since he was a baby, although he had the bloodline, he never trusted it because it had always been uncontrollable.

If his bloodline could truly become stronger, then of course Modret would be pleased to have such strength.

'Who knows, perhaps then I'll be able to control it perfectly.'

The old man turned his gaze toward the distant abyss.

"Kill Celestials. Extract blood… awaken bloodline."

"I should kill the Celestials, and you can extract their blood to awaken the first stage of my bloodline?" Modret clarified.

He nodded.

"How's that possible?" Modret still didn't trust the old man in the slightest.

However, the old man no longer paid him any attention. He walked to the rock, sat down, and began another strange round of mumblings.

A vein popped out on Modret's forehead, and he felt the urge to give him a beating.

He tried to listen in on the old man's mumblings, but he couldn't understand a single word. Frowning, he walked toward Axel.

The moment he sensed Modret's presence, the youth opened his eyes to glance at him.

"The old man says he has a way for us to leave the Celestial Gate."

Axel raised a brow curiously. "The old man isn't trustworthy… he might be part of the gate's creatures, and acting harmless could be his way of eliminating us."

Modret felt exasperated. "I know. I don't trust him either, but… I possess a bloodline that hasn't awakened for a long time, and the old man could detect it. I'm inclined to believe he truly has a way to lead us out of this Celestial Gate."

"That's… surprising." Axel paused briefly before continuing. "In that case, we can only listen to his words for now."

Modret nodded. "We'll have to kill a few Celestials in the meantime. The old man says that to awaken my bloodline, their blood is needed."

"Should I—"

Axel's words trailed off as Modret's figure, clad in lightning, had already burst out into the abyss void.

Smiling faintly, Axel immediately made his move as well.

A string connected Modret and Axel to the floating place—so they wouldn't fall too far.

The moment light flashed in the darkness, it attracted all sorts of Celestial creatures.

Blinding brilliance erupted from every direction as Modret and Axel clashed with them instantly.

'They've gotten stronger…' Modret frowned inwardly, but his lightning didn't pause.

In a flash, his arm shot forward—lightning tearing through the air—and his hand pierced the chest of a wolf-like Celestial with a humanoid body.

A fountain of blood sprayed out as several wriggling worms crawled across his hand, trying to regenerate the creature's heart.

Without hesitation, he unleashed a flurry of strikes, completely annihilating the Celestial's body several times over.

Gradually, the regeneration slowed to a snail's pace.

'Better.'

Modret muttered inwardly, then slung the creature over his shoulder and, using the string, swiftly pulled himself back up to the floating stone.

A few minutes later, Axel arrived.

The moment he did, the old man raised his gaze to look at the two. His expression was neutral as he gestured for Modret to place it to the side.

He walked up to the Celestial after Modret set it down and ran his fingers through it. Then, after studying it for a while, he walked to the corner of the wall and picked out a few sharp bone spikes.

The Celestial was still regenerating on the ground, but the old man didn't seem to care.

He impaled it instantly, grabbing a pot beside him as blood from its heart dripped into it, filling it quickly.

Modret stared at the deep green liquid with a mix of apprehension and curiosity.

He watched as the old man finished the extraction, then carried the Celestial to the side and tossed it into the endless abyss.

Afterward, he turned toward Axel's kill, but his movements gradually slowed before stopping entirely.

He walked back to the stone rock, sat down, and bent his head low, mumbling strange, incoherent words.

Modret's lips twitched.

Reluctantly, they could only wait by the side for the old man to recover.

'It seems he must have stayed here for a long time…' Modret guessed, watching him intently.

'This seems like madness. Perhaps it's how he's coped with loneliness all this time.'

'Humans still being alive…' Modret frowned to himself.

If his guess wasn't wrong, did it mean that the humans of the previous era had perished?

What exactly happened more than a hundred years ago? Did mana suddenly appear, or was there something else hidden from the world?

A dull ache pressed at his temples as he pondered all these questions.

'As expected… the mysteries are starting to pile up.' Modret chuckled under his breath.

A few hours passed before the old man regained his sanity.

He turned to the Celestial that Axel had captured, and the same process played out.

This time, he extracted the blood into a different pot.

"Fire," he said to Modret.

Without delay, Modret stretched out his hand, and black flames wrapped around the pot.

Surprisingly, despite how hot Modret's flames were—capable of burning metal—they didn't harm the pots.

Modret watched curiously as the blood in the pot began bubbling. A strange, acrid scent spread through the air, thick enough to sting the nose.

After maintaining the process for a while, the old man turned his gaze toward the second pot.

He repeated the same process, then mixed both liquids.

Moments later, his sanity flickered again, and Modret had to pause the process until the man recovered.

It didn't last long, and soon the old man resumed.

He waved for Modret to stop, then placed his hand over the pot to feel its temperature.

By now, it had already condensed into a thick, viscous liquid.

He made a few hand seals, then ordered Modret to release his flames once more.

Modret obliged, and the black fire once again enveloped the pot.

After more than thirty minutes, the old man finally finished and gestured for him to stop.

Modret's black flames receded, and what was inside the pot was revealed to them both.

It was a transparent, shimmering liquid with all sorts of colors.

It radiated a mysteriously profound energy, and both Modret and Axel couldn't help but feel drawn to it.

This was especially so for Modret, who could feel something inside him stirring awake.

"Drink," the old man said, pointing to the pot.

Modret blinked, regaining his senses as caution surged through him.

The old man frowned for the first time, but Modret wasn't about to drink some unknown liquid.

'Fairy…' he called out in his heart, 'can this help me awaken my bloodline?'

Multicolored lights flickered around Modret as the fairy gradually took form—her luminous wings spreading open like a prism in the darkness.
